A GREAT buy, for an amazing system.

This is a must have for die hard gamers who love vampires. It is both extremely useful, and very interesting to read. It gives many ways to spruce up those boring vampire encounters that you may have had. All in all, a great purchase at a fairly low price.

A great supplement for a great game system.

Green Ronin has a winner with this one. It does everything it promises and then some. Whether you want a playable vampire racial template, new feats to customize vampires or simply want advice on how to incorporate or portray a vampire in your campaign this book is for you. Fang and Fury provides both players and DMs with all the tools they need to spice up the vampires in their games. From Daywalkers(think Blade) to Vampire Dragons, from Vampire Mages to cannibalistic Revelers this book has it all.

The only real problem I have with this book is the lack of an index, though the reason for the lack of an index is a good one. They have so much information in this book you'll find the insides of the covers packed with it. All in all one of the better books out there for the D20 system.

Good stuff

This book has such a great range of stuff, especially the essays by Bass, Dinerstein, Rotella, and Jacobson. They know sports, but they know alot of other stuff too. Very worth reading, even the more obscure stuff.

Intelligent and readable

This collection of essays is a good read for interested citizens and sports fans alike. It tackles the serious issues "in the game," and keeps your attention with a wide array of topics and amazing insights. It hits hard right from the beginning, with Bass's insightful and personal essay about the Red Sox, and continues with highlights from Joel Dinerstein, Matthew Jacobson (I'll never call Dick Allen "Ritchie" again!), and Carlo Rotella. A great book, whether you are on the beach or in the classroom, and important for all.

A Trailblazer On And Off The Court

Review Date: 2008-09-20
Though published through the regional University of Akron Press, the autobiography of Wayne Embry is essential reading for basketball fans, sports historians and those intrigued on how sports reflects the games played by the power brokers in society.

Embry was a professional player and climbed the corporate ladder in the NBA during eras when the racial divide was felt in locker rooms and in neighborhoods throughout the nation.

Perhaps mostly known nationally as the executive who traded Kareem Abdul-Jabbar - from the Milwaukee Bucks to the Los Angeles Lakers - Embry drew the ire of Cleveland Cavalier fans for the trading of Ron Harper, which is covered in depth.

But it's within the inside game on the hardwood floor of life - that needed the finesse of a swift ball-handling point guard and the sharp elbows of a tough power forward - where Embry ultimately excelled. He did not close the doors of opportunity when he maneuvered into a position to take advantage of a small opening, but has been a trailblazer by leading the way for many others into successful careers in pro basketball and the corporate world.

A Compelling Hard-Hitting Read

I just finished this book tonight, and it's one of the best sports autobiographies I've read in ages, and I read most of them. Wayne Embry is a pioneer, and a man that overcame a tremendous amount of racism and adversity in his life to become a power player (GM) of 2 NBA ballclubs.
I have had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Embry in passing at camps, and he was a kind gentleman. I always admired him but never knew all that he went through. To be fair in my review, I must say that in reading the book, he seems at times overly-sensitive in his analysis of some situations, especially those with Cavs ownership, and that he often seems to have felt slighted, when he may have just been a casualty of an underachieving ballclub, and NOT the victim of racism.
Either way, the man is an intellect, and also found success in business as a big-time McDonald's franchisee and sat on the BOD of several Fortune 500 companies, as well as a trustee of his alma mater, Miami of Ohio. A man who has been married to the same woman for almost 50 years. A man of conviction.
I say this for Embry, whether or not you agree or disagree with his views, he pulls no punches. He tells it like it is, and does not sugar coat things in this book. There's nothing worse than shelling out $20 or $30 for a book, and then you get nothing but cliche nonsense, or the same old fuzzy stories you already knew from the sports pages or internet.
This book is a must for old-time/vintage NBA fans or those who wonder what it's like to be a GM of a team. Wayne Embry was not only a physical specimen, but a cerebral giant of a man, and this is one helluva read. Kudos, Big Wayne. Regards, James R. Acho, Esq. www.cmda-law.com

There has been so much written about the 1968 Olympics and the Olympic Project for Human Rights movement, but oftentimes from a critical perspective or by not placing it within a broader context of social movements that were gripping the world.

Author Douglass Hartmann offers a holistic perspective on the protest through impressive research and interviews, while stripping away the layers of myth which time brings to history.

This is an important volume for any reader who wants a complete understanding of this timless moment where sports and politics merged on the ultimate international stage.

The Best Book on the Topic . . .

This is by far the best book ever written on the topic of the 1968 Olympic protest by the Black athletes from San Jose State . . . Any question I ever had on the events surrounding John Carlos and Tommie Smith's so-called "Black Power" salute on the Olympic dais in Mexico City was found in this book, which speaks from a sociological and historical standpoint. I definitely will be able to use this book not only in my own studies, but in teaching the significant points of the protest to students at SJS.

Thanks, Dr. Hartmann!

Lots of material in here. Some of the new subraces and prestige classes seem to be a tad overpowered at times but this is my only gripe. Some very nice fresh material in here for any elf fan. Some neat new races, classes, spells, equipment etc. This was one of my first green ronin books and made me a big fan of their work in general.

If you are at all interested in the subject matter... playing or DMing elves buy this book. it is a great read with lots of creative gems I am dieing to try out in my next game.

This is the game itself, not an audio CD
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-05-02
I bought this a couple years ago. It is the game "Buzz Aldrin's Race Into Space", not an audio CD as indicated above. As far as I know there is no audio CD related to BARIS. If you are interested in a game that recreates the US-Soviet Space Race, this might be just what you're looking for. It's an old DOS game and doesn't run well (or sometimes at all) in Windows, but it does run well if you use an emulator. BARIS runs fine using DOSBox on Windows, Linux, or Mac.

For more information about the game, see [...], or look it up on Wikipedia.
