The foundamentals to understand the quality of lyric voices

It is impossible to find in the original language The History of Bel Canto. It is only available in some Conservatory Library.
This History is foundamental to clearly understand the evolution of the several technics of singing through the centuries.
Rodolfo Celletti is probably the most reliable living "expert" of lyric voices. By reading his works you can distinguish a
real, good operatic voice from trivial and bad voices.

Much Needed Research

David Rowland provides the historian and piano enthusiast with much needed research into an important, but often neglected,
area of musical performance practice. In this concise but powerful book, the author traces the transition in preferred musical
instruments from the harpsichord to the clavichord to the piano in the 18th century. Documentary evidence of Mozart and his
contemporaries is offered, as well as chapters on pedaling by 18th century and early 19th century piano tutors. The appendix
contains translations of methods by J. P. Milchneyer (1797),Louis Adams (1804) and Daniel Steibelt (1809). Since early pedal
markings are often confusing or nonexitent, this work provides much needed guidance for the pianist, teacher or historical
researcher.

Hello. I am an 11th grader in high school and for my algebra II class we are using this book. It's too bad it's not available
(I could not buy it) but the book is great. I have understood all the terms used in algebra and I can solve any problem
on the book. It has great examples and good definitions. If you are a teacher in look for the book to give a class, buy
it... it is great! If you are a student, just like me, and you want to buy it, you won't regret paying what is costs. Happy
studing fellow students! Temple of Souls.

I wanted to know some of the finer points of Illy CS2/3, but more from an artistic point of view.
Ted explains creative text and shape techniques, vector illustration, transparency and blending (opacity), and 3D.
Rather than giving you boring steps to follow, he shows you his workspace and his process with videos, and talks you through the way he works and why he thinks it's effective.
These videos can be used for either Illy CS2 or CS3, I'm using CS3. I was more interested in Ted's technique and insights.
It's a tad pricey, but worth it if you want to learn about some of the finer points of design with Illy CS3.

If you are looking for an efficient way to learn complex software like illustrator then I can recommend the Lynda.com DVD
with Deke McClelland. You can work at your own pace, no need to travel to a class room, you can work along with Deke with
the exercise files included with the video. The training has a good structure, exercises come in a good order. For me this
is a 5 star training.

Excellent Starting Point for Learning the Basics

I've been taking copious notes while watching this video series since Monday. David Blatner, who blogs on InDesignSecrets.com,
is the host. His style is very straightforward as he teaches you both the basics of this program and tricks on how to maximize
your time by using keyboard shortcuts, customizing your menus, adding special characters, importing text, etc.
The video on importing text is especially valuable to me because I have relied on the Place feature as well as the "Copy and Paste" method when importing text for my books. David explains why you should get out the copy and paste habit. He also explains how to import Word files so InDesign will format them correctly. This is a huge timesaver.
If you have 9 hours of straight time to sit in front of your monitor or TV, you can easily get through these video series in one sitting. But I recommend that you take your time because this program is complex. I've listed the truncated version of the table of contents to give you an idea of what you'll be learning. To see the full TOC, visit Lynda.com.

Is the DVD worth the price? It depends on how and where you're going to use it. If you're training primarily from home and have a good Internet connection, then I suggest you consider signing up for the basic subscription at Lynda.com because you'll not only get access to this basic course, but you'll have access to the other six at a fraction of the cost. Once you finish with this course, you'll want to move on to the others to learn more. If you don't have a good Internet connection or need to train others, the DVD is definitely worth getting.
For visual learners, this course is an excellent way of mastering the basics of Adobe InDesign.

One of the first things that jumps out at the reader of this text book is the colour - I remember algebra texts from nearly
three decades ago when I first learned the subject, and they were usually fairly boring black-and-white texts. This has colour
on every page. There are marginal pull-quote boxes that explain in simpler, verbal language some of the algebraic and mathematical
concepts being demonstrated in the problems. There are also marginal notes that give hints (Success Tips, Caution, and Notation
pieces) to remind students of key concepts or introduce important and special elements.
Each chapter begins with a new chapter opener, introducing in broad strokes the content of each chapter. This is also keyed to TLE (The Learning Equation) labs that are part of the internet components to this text. The text also includes a CD-ROM supplement for students. Each chapter includes worked examples in great detail, self-check problems and strategy/property boxes that give short explanations of the key concepts in the worked examples.
The progression of topics in the text is familiar to those who know algebra:
Chapter 1 is a review, including review of numbers, basic equations and variables. Chapter 2 begins the introduction of simple lines and graphs, including graphs of functions. The third chapter looks as systems of equations and how to solve them in different methods, including algebra, matrices and determinants. The fourth chapter introduces inequalities, including compound inequalities and absolute value issues.
From chapter five forward are issues of exponents, polynomials, rational equations, radical equations, quadratic equations and attendant issues. These include issues of factoring, dividing, geometric applications, and introduces imaginary and complex numbers.
The final three chapters explore exponential and logarithmic functions (very useful in science), conic sections (two-dimensional analytic geometry), and some theoretical considerations for algebra, especially of interest to those going on to higher math. These include some elemtns of interest to those who will need statistics, too.
The preface includes some study tips for students to follow, which are very important. This is a checklist worthwhile for students in any math class (and can be adapted for students in any other class, too).
Algebra is the kind of subject that few can master on their own without classroom or tutorial instruction; I have yet to meet the textbook that will teach algebra to everyone without teaching assistance, and this book is no different. But as a classroom book, and as a book we use in our Tutoring Center, this is a very useful, helpful and clearly written text.
