I have not completely read this, but I glanced through this book at a bookstore, and It's not worth paying for. I can name a myriad of other sites (I don't know if I can but just look for "mac easter egg" on a search engine) that list more eggs than this, more up to date (obviously), and FREE

Great Information in Layman's Terms

I first checked this out from our local library...it was so GREAT, I went out and bought one for my company. I did meet with several lawyers and accountants...the lawyer I choose told me I could incorporate by myself, which I did. I did have him review several critical documents, like the company bylaws, which was a template from this book. The book comes with a CD that has templates that you fill in the blanks...it also tells you in Layman's terms what the documents are and provides clear examples and steps on how to fill out the templates. I would highly recommend this and "The Corporate Minutes Book" (from the same author).

Quite informative and well done. A much better approach than "Quicken Lawyer 2002 Business Deluxe" by Nolo Press, which is hastily put together and of low quality.
Use it to understand the subject, prepare your documents for review by a lawyer and have appropriate questions when meeting with your attorney. It will save you money and trouble. Nevertheless, I would be tempted to say that it would be hard to skip the attorney altogether based on this book.

Mac Guru Reviews iMac Manual

Review Date: 2000-01-25
This book is a must for beginners and all iMac owners alike. It gives detailed explanations, with photos, of all the software Apple sends with the iMac. It answers 90% of the questions most people will have regarding the iMac applications. It is an indispensable guide for every iMac fan. Five stars and two thumbs-up from a double-decade Mac user.

A highly valuable resource for iMac users.

A well researched, easy-to-understand guide by an acknowledged leader of the Apple community. As an independent observer, not on the P.R. payroll of any vendor, Ms. Hoffman's advice is highly valuable for any novice, intermediate or even some experienced iMac users.

I have read this and the "iMovie 2: The Missing Manual". I like the Visual Quickstart Guide a bit better because it is very concise but not lacking in information (true of the series).

The thing with iMovie is that is seems like it should do more than it seems. While some of the techniques are not obvious, there are few of these (most presented in this book) that will definetly get your movies going. Get this book and look in the internet for additional sources of information.

Great for novices wanting to make their first iMovie (that was me) to those people wanting answers that don't come up until you start to really dig into iMovie and want more, more more (that is me now).

I spent an hour reviewing 4 versions at the bookstore, took this home, and think it's great. Very simple, very short, very much to the point, this is a great reference as well as a beginning tutorial.

So, it has depth, clarity, and brevity, admirable qualities all.

iMovie seems a very simple application (with a wonderfully simple interface) but there are a lot of neat tips and tricks to create very cool movies, videos, whatever.Cheers,

This is the best book about the internet on the shelves, bar none. Both beginner and advanced user will appreciate this book, and keep it handy, as no matter how many times you look through it, you'll always spot new information you didn't notice before! It walks you step by step through configuring your connection, and starts you off collecting shareware to help you and internet sites to guide you. I bought my first Mac, and this book, and have been off and running ever since! This book takes an often confusing subject, & makes it fun

I thought the book was pleasingly written, but could not find basic information. For instance I needed to know how to set preferences in Netscape, and not only that but also what the various selections actually meant, and how they worked. The information on the above was very limited. Much of the book is devoted to listing interesting web sites. I found the book a good overview but, if you need detailed information look elsewhere.

This is another fine book from Chris Breen. For those of us who subscribe to Macworld his is a well known name. And his knowledge of all things Apple is without question.
This book is especially well suited for new users, or intermediate users. But, I'm only saying that to warn the people who are going to pitch a fit if they know more then fifty percent of the information in the book.
I've been using Mac's since 96, but was a little slow to adopt the iPod. Now I don't know how I did without one, and I want to know as much about all the features I can.
Listening to Chris on some of the podcasts he's done, and having read his many articles in Macworld, including Mac 911. I knew I could count on him, and he didn't let me down.
It's not exactly pocket size though, unless your wearing cargo pants.

This book is handy for people (like me) who often tend to forget exactly how to do this or that thing with an iPod, or who don't realize all of the various things that iPods and iTunes can do. It's well-organized so it's easy to find what you're looking for. I am going to lend it to my mom so she can find out how to download podcasts and things like that. This makes a nice stocking stuffer or Secret Santa present for someone who has an iPod but isn't necessarily super tech-savvy.

Mr. Stars is a gifted writer and teacher. This is one of the very best technical books I have ever read. It read easily, it was packed with practical information and I actually did learn from it. If you don't know FileMaker and you want to learn it, this book is for you. If you already know FileMaker and want to learn advanced techniques, look for another book. I can't give it 5 stars because: 1) the last few chapters are like filler -- there's nothing in them that I couldn't have gleaned from the FileMaker manuals; 2) the CD-ROM adds no value.

STOP -- look no further!

Although FileMaker Pro (FMP) -- the best-selling free-standing data management program -- provides a truly excellent instruction manual, practical tutorials, and the best Help features around (take note Microsoft!), the program has so many features and possibilities that a structured learning experience can only help you move up smoother and faster. I've tried other FMP books, but was disappointed by their slap-dash make-over compilation of unstructured tips and tricks (see my other review).

Jon Star, a former entertainer who started out by booking his shows with FMP and streamlining his wife's business, is now a full-time FMP developer with years of experience. He shares that experience with flair, style and wit -- taking you through the basics (with tutorial files on the CD-rom easing much of the drudgery) up to mid-intermediate level. [For instance, I'm now converting my original Access files to FMP using ODBC.] All along, he comes up with tips for speeding repetitious steps. Clearly, this book is well-planned, well-written, well-organized and not at all dull (without resorting to cutesy Dummy-book 'humor'); Mr Star, quite obviously, has spent a great deal of thought, time and effort to make this book both useful and attractive to the reader. It outshines other FMP starter books by orders of magnitude. Jon works you hard, but you don't seem to mind as progress is swift and mostly painless. Jon Star is a five-star author and educator.

The FMP 6.0 learning guide (which covers XML if you care) will be out in Fall 2002, and should be as good if not better.

Lever is one of those "classic" pathology books nearly all pathologists and trainee pathologists feel obliged to add to their collections. I have never understood why. It is encyclopedic, but its manner of so being robs this term of any of its virtues. It is the driest example of medical writing I have come across. Every time I open it I know I will be told in stark militaristic language the umpteen diagnostic features of a given entity with little, if any, emphasis on the practicalities of differential diagnosis. It reads like a hardware store catalogue. It is everything Rosai's Surgical Pathology isn't: utterly humorless, utterly impersonal, utterly unsympathetic to the plight of the ordinary pathologist, and-worst of all- essentially devoid of diagnostic tips. I simply cannot imagine have a beer with any of the authors.

Excellent book, all in one.

I have read nearly all the books on Jobs and Apple and this is one of the best. It was written in 1984, so it only covers the early history of the company. Moritz was a writer for Time magazine and does a wonderful job profiling the personalities of the founders and the challenges the company faced. Essential reading for someone trying to truly understand the roots of Apple.

This is THE book that explains the origins and quirks of Apple's first decade, giving some clue as to how the company turned out the way it did. If you read any of the later books, they all cite Moritz heavily to get the early story straight. Moritz doesn't have the dirt of the later books, but he also has much less of an axe to grind than his successors.

All descriptions in this book (and they are countless) are straightforward and clear. It made me understand what I am getting myself in to. The only thing I found slightly annoying was the nonstandard font choice used throughout. Good choice for a how-to guide to setting up a home network.
