Abstract Books

Mrs. Wearmouth's series, which I purchased in CD form, was a key to unlocking my family's forgotten history in the 19th century. Her abstracts make it easy to locate relevant newspaper articles.

If you are not a professional theologian (like most of us) but anyway you would like to have a complete overview of what Karl Rahner thought and wrote in his intrincate, long and confusing "Theological Investigations", this book is probably the best choice available on the market for that purpose. It is great because it works as a manual. Straight to the point. Recommended.

As someone (from the UK) researching into early Pennsylvania history and its English connections, the opportunity to gain access to primary historical data from the first 40 years of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is priceless. Some of this data may well be available online, but the concentration of names, dates and descriptors in this slim volume (3 pages short of 300) - tied in with a comprehensive index - provides a rich vein to mine. The wills, in chronological order from Thomas Fream's in Sep 1682 to Thomas Sharp's in Feb 1723, all have the salient factual details (dates, names, descriptions, and places), although as it says on the can, these are abstracts - it is a reference book, not a bed-time reading book!
The paperback has plasticized covers, so although light, is a little more durable than simple paper covers. It arrived in the UK safely and in good time.

Excellent research material. Well organized and of much benefit for those who are looking for ancestors who owned land in early Rowan County of North Carolina.

This book was such a good source of information on NH Colonial woman. I have used this book for personal research, with youth, and for conversation. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants more information about early NH woman and their geneology.

Published as the first volume in a series of Northern Neck Warrants & Surveys, this collection has become a standard reference work for researchers in the period of colonial Augusta County history and that of its parent county, Orange.

Author depicts the journey of his life in the form of poetry. The fascinating aspect of this "poetry" book is that each story has a story within itself. The contents of this text makes one go "hmmmm." I think it would be an excellent resource for a philosphy class and/or a book club because it's guaranteed to generate opposing views/interpretations.

Definitely a MUST READ!

This is a fine collection of the later work of Agnes Martin. Her work is a great example of how an action becomes something other. No documentation will ever suffice for seeing her work in person, but as these things go this book captures some of her subtleties. I turn to this book at times when I need to be reminded that we can make tender references to perfection.

The husband-and-wife team of Alexandr Rodchenko/Varvara Stepanova are the most well known graphic designers of the era. The Museum of Modern Art in New York had an exhibition in 1998 devoted to their works; the catalogue, 'Aleksandr Rodchenko', is a well presented overview that is ideal for those wanting to learn about the art and politics of post-revolutionary Russia.
