This is THE book for AS/400 people wanting to learn JavaReview Date: 2001-04-13
I had a bit of knowledge about Java before reading this book and was able to get to the next level using this book.
Although the examples were very informative and efficiently conveyed the lessons, I found some errors in the example code (First example has one). My only wish would be that the examples had more cleanup and error handling in them but I guess they didn't want the code to be too complicated and stay focused on the lesson at hand.
In addition to learning Java, I was able to quickly configure a Tomcat Web Server on our AS/400 using this book. The book also covered JDBC 2.0 which is a must, especially for database oriented AS/400 professionals.
Don Denoncourt has a very clear way of explaining and illustrating the concepts of Java.

Excellent!Review Date: 2002-01-05
The book starts from scratch and is suitable for beginners, but it also contains a wealth of information for experienced developers. The CD-ROM includes the source code of all the examples from the book. This book is a defenitive reference, a must-have for anyone doing development work with JRun.

JScript .NET and more!Review Date: 2001-10-12
XML is integrated into all aspects of the .NET Framework - I was glad to see that the author discusses XML throughout the book, provides an appendix called 'XML Primer', and also discusses using XML with the new ADO .NET DataSet object (sort of like an always disconnected ADO Recordset object) within a Windows service written in JScript .NET.
Since JScript .NET is now fully object oriented, there are three chapters that cover Object oriented design and analysis. The author uses UML (the Unified Modeling Language) throughout the discussions, and provides two very useful appendices: UML Notation which describes elements of UML diagrams, and ' Translating from UML to JScript.NET Code' which shows how easy it is to convert a UML diagram into functioning JScript .NET code.
The book is well thought out and the samples are very practical. I recommend this book to developers with some programming background - even casual programming. Part two of the book, covered in five chapters, is a JScript primer for those that aren't familiar with the language. This book works well as a reference and it covers more than just programming using the JScript .NET language in enough detail to be as useful as three books in one!

A Note From the Author:Review Date: 2008-09-01
As you may have seen, I've been working on a set of focused portals regarding the elections, but am shortly going to do an update of this one as well. So I let me repeat my invitation to give some feedback here, and especially to ask for changes and additions that you'd like. I'll review and consider anything you suggest - but remember it needs to be probably useful to most web Kindlers.
You can do this either by writing a short review right on this page, or just start a discussion below on an item you want, and let's see what others have to say and add. Again, many thanks for trying this out!
-Don

Author's Note:Review Date: 2008-10-07
It's a VERY quick guide for new Kindle owners that absolutely won't drag you through long-winded writings. Much more concise than Amazon's own guide, it still covers most ALL the "best ways", tricks and extras that you need, or want to know.
These days, you'll see about 7 or 8 Kindle "guides", unexpurgators, decryptors, etc. in the Kindle store. Look for guides that are rated above 1000 in Kindle store sales - there are exactly two - Windwalker's and mine. Both are quite long reads; his covering the well known basics, plus extensive treatment on publishing your ebooks; mine doesn't focus on commercial publishing, but deeply explains every other thing you can do with, to, on, or about your Kindle, while being a little more humorous about it..
If you think you'll mostly buy and read books with your Kindle, maybe those aren't exactly your need, wondrous friendly books though they are. What could be handier for you is something that covers most, but not all of the key topics and best tips, but is precisely arranged for a quick scan or quick lookup. This one does that.
Even better, it's not just a book, but a joyfully effective live browser aid, too - you can check a date, even make notes for that month; AND use built-in Kindle Click links to instantly visit websites you need - like your email, online calendar, or to get directions. And you don't have to mess around typing things in. Try the free sample (- you can't jump to the back detail in it, because samples are the first 3 pages only - but you'll get a good idea of the style and how it works.) Organise your DesignsReview Date: 2000-04-03
Of all the books on content for mulimedia design, this book stood out in a unique way. The author tackled writing and conceptual design from a rhetorical, narrative, and associative point. A lot of stuff in the book is very well illustrated. With children's learning in perspective, this book showed me lots of scenarios like games, kiosks. Very organised in content. Its a must read for designers, who want to understand flowcharting, scripting for various scenarios.
