Ably compiled and edited by a professional engineer of over 35 years' experience, Digital Circuit Analysis and Design with
an Introduction to CPLDs and FPGAs is a textbook specifically designed for students and working professionals in the field
of electrical engineering. Chapters cover common number systems and conversions, binary codes, fundamentals of boolean algebra,
combinational logic circuits, sequential logic circuits, introduction to ABEL hardware description language, VHDL, Verilog,
and Boundary-Scan Architecture, and much more. Black-and-white engineering diagrams, sample equations and charts, and many
other visual aids help spell out the concepts described by the pedagogical text. Each chapter also offers multiple practical
applications, since Digital Circuit Analysis and Design is specifically a design-oriented textbook. A singularly useful reference,
self-teaching tool and resource for aspiring and practicing electrical engineers.

The author states, in Chapter 1:
"In this book, I will show you from the ground up how to design the digital circuits inside the PC, or more precisely, the circuitry inside those black IC chips. Specifically, I will show you how to design the logic circuit for a microprocessor, which is at the heart of every electronic device."
This is exactly what he does, step by step. There is sample code and a recommended development board that you can purchase for nominal cost to learn from. I am so glad this book is available and I am writing this review to encourage authors like this to continue. Interested people, hobbyists and professional engineers alike, will enjoy this walk through the mysterious world of IC chips.
This is the best guide on the subject I have seen so far.

This has been a great book for me. I have been using a digital camera for anumber of years now but this book stil taught
me a lot. It is written so that it easily understood, has all that you need to know as an amateur photographer, and should
be around for a long time. I keep the book handy to refer back to when needed. Great book.

Students and practicing engineers receive a basic introduction to the common methods used to design electrical circuits using
modern logic design techniques, so will find this an unusual combination of traditional teachings updated with modern logic
sequencing and computer-aided tools. It's designed as a textbook, so college-level students and practicing engineers will
find it most handy - but it covers all the basics, from Boolean algebra and logic gates to Karnaugh maps. An accompanying
cd-rom includes simulations and third-party software, making this highly recommended for any in-depth, practicing engineer
or student.

Harald Johnson has done it again! Mr. Johnson has taken his years of vast digital printing knowledge and experience, and has
produced an all-inclusive guide that is chock-full of extensive information, yet very easy to use. As a giclee artist who
produces and markets his own prints, I encourage anyone interested in digital photo printing to obtain this invaluable guide.
And for those of you who are researching the digital print field as a career, Digital Printing Start-Up Guide can save you
thousands of dollars with the information it provides.

A dazzling study of virtual reality

With virtual reality (VR) -- or at least the promise of it -- fast becoming a fixture in the public imagination, books like
this are vitally important in shaping how we think about, make use of, and create future technologies of representation.
Drawing from a remarkable breadth of cultural, technical, and philosophical thought, Ken Hillis's Digital Sensations remains
direct and accessible as it deftly weaves together theory, insight, and imagination to understand VR as a technology with
specific cultural and historical origins (origins that go farther back than computers, TV, even the telephone and telegraph).
Hillis makes a passionate, convincing case that these roots influence the way VR is currently used (in everything from military
simulations to avant-garde art installations) and, perhaps more important, how it is publicly perceived: as a utopian, anything-is-possible
means of escaping our bodies and the materiality of our lives to achieve a kind of electronic nirvana. Recognizing this
as a commercial and ideological vision, Digital Sensations positions itself in one sense as an antidote to that hype, calling
our attention both to the far-fetched claims of VR visionaries and to the ethical implications of a technology that depends
for its effects on a cunning substitution of illusion for place. Yet the book is not a bringdown; if anything, Hillis helps
us think rigorously about the implications and potential of VR, counterbalancing the simplistic, domesticated perspective
that characterizes VR simply as a new form of mindless entertainment, virtual singles bar, or faster way of commuting to
the electronic office. In chapters on contemporary theory as well as histories of optics and vision, Hillis scrutinizes each
component of VR (space, place, body, identity, embodiment, language, and metaphor) calling for a careful consideration of
what the desire for a "leap into cyberspace" might mean politically for those who go -- and those who are left behind.

It is great book - simple enough to provide a good overview of making videos and detailed enough to help you understand the
required technologies. It really is an excellent book and I highly recommend it to new video makers. I also use the book after
I go "shopping" for equipment or software to see how it fits with the concepts put forward in the book. It has been a real
help in making me a more thoughtful buyer as well as a better video maker. The book covers how to take good video shots, the
equipment necessary to interface with your computer, and the software to edit your movies. All the information you need to
get a quick start is in this book.
