This book was fun to read and was filled with good suggestions and ideas for using software I already had to do just about everything I need to do in my office. I had no idea that I could create my own business cards in Word, or all the stuff I can do with PowerPoint to make presentations. The chapters on marketing were great, and I also really enjoyed the first couple of chapters on buying computers and software - I learned a lot. I recommend this book to anyone with an office, and to both large and small businesses. There are great tips for saving time and money, and everyone needs to do that these days! I'll definitely buy any book that Laurie Ulrich writes, certainly anything on business and software topics, she really knows her stuff.

Thank you Deitel & Deitel!

As the person who was in charge of implementing the switch from Pascal to Java in our introductory course, I would like to personally thank the Deitels for their erudite scholarship and writing. Their book and multimedia package in my mind (this review is personal opinion and cannot be construed as an official opinion of department, school nor university) is the solution to the problem of the Java language training. I can personally attest to individual students who told me that their grades improved from a C to a B because they listened to my advice and reviewed lectures using the multimedia CD-rom. I was amazed at how EVERYONE that I saw brought their book to class and we had a lecture hall of 164 students (times three!). Java appears daunting to many at first but with Deitel & Deitel in the classroom, everything becomes manageable.

This is a terrific introduction to DOS written by an experienced instructor. The overview of what a computer is gives "newbies" descriptions of the basic functions of computing and of computer hardware.

The DOS instructions and exercises are logically laid out and the new learner experiences success immediately. The material covers basic commands, memory configuration, using the DOS Shell and practical exercises such as copying files and backing up your hard drive.

Additionally, commands used in each chapter are listed in "Command Reference" sections that are easy to use and refer to.

I have two copies of this book. One is pulled apart for easy access to the Command References and other sections; the other is entact for use as a reference when I am explaining a basic DOS function to a co-worker. This was one of my first textbooks when I began a computer career. It has remained one of my best references. If you need a quick guide to DOS, a refresher course, or want to teach the basics to someone, I highly recommend this book.

This text was used at a local community college. As a student, I found it an excellent tool for learning Access. Beware that this version is geared for Windows 3.1 and is difficult to use in any Windows version above that. So if you are still in the dark ages, by all means get this text. You won't be disappointed.

This book is a great book for people who are just beginning to use an integrated business office application or who are making the transition from another business application to the Microsoft Office Suite. It can be used as a self-paced tutorial or as a textbook for full or half semester Computer Literacy classes. A CD is provided that provides the student or instructor with data files that can be used to facilitate learning and avoid the tedious task of simply entering data. I rate it five stars.

There are many computer books out there which help with almost every aspect in the computing field. However, computer books focused specifically for the ministry are lacking, yet essentially needed. If people in the ministry are going to be able to reach out with the power available from computers, they are going to need specific skills. This is where this book comes in. It can be used by people in the ministry and well as lay people interested in helping out with a ministry's computers. A minister with the gift of preaching can learn how to reach out to more people through use of electronic presentations or web sites. A church member who wishes to assist by posting a church web site or maintaining the office computers can learn the basics needed to begin helping.

This book will provide enough detail to allow the reader to gain a solid overview of the topics as well as be able to make knowledgeable decisions for how to deal with technological issues which may arise. After reading this book, readers will be able to know how to purchase the best equipment for the money, install simple programs, protect data, oversee network installations, repair computers, develop web pages and integrate computer technology into a ministry. Each chapter provides basic information for those wishing to oversee computing projects as well as providing details (In sections titled, "Technical Stuff") for those wishing to actually perform the specified tasks. Many photos and screenshots help the reader learn these tasks.

In her typically superb fashion, Sue has crafted an indispensable reference that digs into the internals of Outlook. A few topics discussed: How Outlook stores data, User Profiles, PRF files (what are those? Buy the book to find out) security, and more.

One of the things that really stood out to me in this book was the Appendixes where you'll find details on policy settings, outlook registry settings and even how to disable various portions of the Outlook user interface.

Another excellent resource is chapter 5 that deals with Exchange connectivity. Outlook has steadily added new ways to talk to Exchange, all with their own set of Pro's and Con's. Personally, I think many companies have overlooked some of the options. Sue will help you navigate the various options and pick the right way to connect to Exchange.

This book gives a deep insight into the Borland Object Windows Library. It covers a large number of items which are not covered in the Borland C++ 5.02 manuals. Highly recommendable for OWL programmers. Written in a nice style and also a good read.
