A Great Book on World War I Airwar and Knights of the Air

This is an amazing book on Air wars, pilots, The Red Baron, World War I, and all that. with great pictures of air crafts, Uniforms, and medals. but my favorite is the art in the book which is the Turkish air battles over the middle east and Lawrence of Arabia. Great Art, I wish I could put it on my wall. This book talks about the best events in the Great War, and shows profiles on the heroes of the war, which would never be forgotten.
Could you find anyting better? NO WAY!

An excellent account of the first air war, Knights of The Air brings an intimate understanding of the intrepid airmen, their classic dirigibles and, the honorable art of dog fighting. Beautiful illustrations and powerful photographs make this book even more memorable. A month by month account, description of the momentum shifts and technological advances allow for a factual understanding and makes this book perfect for reference material and gratuitous pleasure reading.

I 've always wanted to be in broadcasting, but in the great scheme of things I was destined to get a job that was dependable and not interesting.
Growing up in the midwest radio and TV stations were copying things that "big city" stations accomplished first...but on a smaller scale.
One of those big city stations that did things on a grand scale was KTLA-TV. It was not the first experimental station in los Angeles, but it was the first commercial TV station west of the Mississippi River.
A friend of mine whetted my appetite for KTLA by sending me a copy of the station's 40th Anniversary program back in 1987. I was floored by the things they did. Starting with on the spot news coverage for events that would last several hours, which in those days meant taking a big van with several cameras and associated video equipment out to a scene and showing the viewing public what was going on.
KTLA recorded live entertainment TV programs on kinescope so that stations in other cities could have high quality programming. There was the live coverage of an atomic bomb test that was fed nationwide that would not have been coovered if not for ingenuity of the station's founder, Klause Landsberg.
The phone company wanted several months to construct the relay, but Klause only had a few weeks. By studying topographical maps he found a way to microwave the TV signal to Los Angeles and the networks then carried the signal across the country. Granted, an atomic bomb test may not be your cup of tea, but the fact that a major problem was solved in a hurry was most interesting.
The book, "KTLA's News at Ten: 60 years with Stan Chambers," covers the entire history of KTLA mainly because the author has been at the station since late 1947. It is a very good book, and a good addition to the other Stan Chambers book about KTLA printed ten years ago. The two books complement each other in that a lot of the same subjects are covered by vastly reworded.
If you are as interested in broadcasting history as I am then this book is a must for your library. It's easy and pleasant to read and impossible to put down. (You can take that two ways: you'll want to read it cover to cover in one sitting and you'll never say anything bad about it.)
I highly recommend this book and its predecessor. (DISCLAIMER: I receive no compensation to say that, nor do I have an interest in the book publisher.) The TV stations on the east coast may have similar stories and people to tell them, but my heart tells me these books are the very top. Everything else is a distant second.
Happy reading.

This is a lovely book. We got it from the library, and now must own it. My twin four year old boys were enthralled. I had to read it over again immediately. Its a wonderfully illustrated book with beautiful scenes from Luxembourg's Garden. Children will be caught up in the lost toy's journey through the park and eventual reunion with her little girl. Excellent story, charming illustrations. Highly recommend.

Perfect for children as young as 2+, this charming and beautifully illustrated tale of a little girl and her favorite stuffed rabbit enchanted my three year old granddaughter. We read it about ten times over this past weekend. In addition to being a lovely story, the book served as her introduction to Paris and to a few new words both French and English. Highly recommended for imaginative children.

This book was excellent! I read it in just a couple of days. Since I first started I couldn't take my eyes of what I was reading. The story is shocking and rude, yet interesting and mind-opening. It explicitly tells the struggles of growing up in a foreign country with everything against you and yet find the way to a new world full of possibilities. Excellent for tenagers, parents, and students.

LSS takes you through the history and models from Lamborghini
in under 100 pages. I own many books about the cars from this famous Sant'Agata factory and LSS is well organized and 99% in color, which is a big bonus compared to some other publications. There are some buyer's guides which provide more detailed technical information, but LSS is a perfect introduction to the marque and an easy read. Written by the editors of Consumer Guide

Larousse offers a strong and affordable bilingual dictionary for persons who are studying French--or even French speakers studying English, for that matter. As dictionaries go, this IS one of the better hardcover dictionaries; and this edition of Larousse's French-English/English-French dictionary is bound to be a big help to many students.
People have noted that when Larousse updates their dictionaries they do more than window dressing--and they are right. You get great entries that reflect the changing times: the definitions of "software," "hostile takeover" and "baby sitter" are all included in this latest edition of the dictionary. Moreover, you DO get words that reflect the different nuances of a word whenever necessary. This is the hallmark of a fine dictionary.
The dictionary even includes entries for "foul" language; this just might help you! There are even French verb conjugations; and that's superlative for a dictionary in this price range. There's even a 64 page guide to communication that is very impressive.
The pages are made of paper that is slightly thinner than I would like but it's more than sufficient for the student. This is a minor point, naturally. The typeface is easy to read and I like how you can use this dictionary to translate back and forth by looking up entries in either French or English.
I recommend this dictionary for all students of French or even French speaking persons studying English. Not only will this satisfy students at the elementary level; it will also be most beneficial for students at the intermediate and advanced levels of study.

I have been studying french for several years. This is one of the best dictionaries that I've used. It is very resourceful. It has up-to-date, modern words and slang in both languages. It also has information on organizations and both cultures. It is truly one of the best books in my french library.

I'm preparing for our fourth italian vacation. This year we're going to drive throughout Sicily where I hear they don't speak english like they do in the mainland. This dictionay contains english-italian and italian-english translations. It also includes useful phrases like,(I hope we don't need to use this one),"the engine is making strange noises". It's only 3" x 1" and will fit nicely in my fanny-pack.

I got this dictionary while I was taking Italian 1 class. I chose it because it was really small, so I figured it would suit not only my entry-level studies, but also be the best for travel. I am very pleased with it! In addition to having Italian-English and English-Italian translations, it has conversation guides, verb charts and other little helpers that are really helpful and practical. Great mini dictionary.

This is an excellent, versatile dictionary covering both Brazilian and European usage and spelling. It is very useful for the traveler in Portuguese speaking countries and communities. The dimensions are right, for a good size pocket or your suitcase. Entries are what you need. Translations are practical, to the point. I have always found the word I was looking for. In approach and coverage it will have a good partner in Manuela Cook's Teach Yourself Portuguese 2002 course. They both address the needs of today's modern world. An excellent buy!
