Curtis' devotional for single mothers is compact, convenient and charming.Single mothers are busy and this book is compact enough to be read in a single setting and easily categorized for return reference. The Alphabetical Prayer request are convenient and timely. The Money Prayer on page 43 is one of the most practical and honest requests I have read as yet. Curtis also supplies spiritual references to buttress the prayer requests.

However, some prayers appear rote and pushed(i.e- X-Ray Vision which is actually a form of Wisdom.) I would have liked to have seen different types of prayers like praises for our children, praises to God for believing that he will provide, prayers for other mothers who although are married feel just as alone, prayer for the children's fathers. Making this book a series, whereby mothers understand the entire facet of prayer would be ideal.

Overall, a nice devotional that is great for a Mother's Day Gift, Bible Study on Prayer Life or a Women's Ministry.

Truly inspiring, Grip The Rope is a compact book of twenty-six prayers, which are guides to help get through the perils of raising a family single-handedly. The prayers are listed in alphabetical order, though brief, they are powerful in their message. Easily read through in about an hour, these prayers are an excellent reference to go back to time and time again for inspiration. Each prayer starts off with a scriptural reference which sets a meditative air, and allows you time alone with God. Share in His infinite wisdom as Ms. Curtis guides you into silent reflection towards overcoming situations.

The simple A-Z approach and conversational style of dialogue brings topics as burnout, integrity, rest, time management and zeal to prayerful introspection. I don't think of the Bible specifically addressing burnout per se, but the scriptural reference put my mind on a new train of thought and revealed that it is "ok" to feel overwhelmed with life and to seek strength from within your heart. I like the new approach, to thinking about life, that Ms. Curtis has eloquently expressed.

I've been ministered to, by reading Grip the Rope; there is something in this book for everyone. Not only the single mother but the woman, the wife, the friend will benefit from reading Grip the Rope. Share this book with others and share the blessing you will receive simply from having read these prayers.

Grip the Rope is small in size but large on encouragement and motivation. Carla Curtis has served the reader alphabetical touch points of prayer. Each prayer speaks to many issues in all of our lives. I believe everyone can get a blessing from reading "Grip the Rope"

When you think you can no longer make it to the end, "Grip the Rope" and take a dose from one of the twenty-six inspirational prayers inside this gem.

What a special volume of prayers for any mother, but most particularly, as the title indicates, the single mother. Who better to take her very real emotions and concerns to about such pressing and unrelenting issues of loneliness, finances, patience, stress and such than the Lord? These are just some of the moving and beautiful prayers Ms. Curtis offers in this priceless jewel. It is an assurance that the single mother is not alone in her struggle, that someone understands, and better yet, that there really is someone to take her problems, hopes and dreams to.

Grip the Rope: Prayers for Single Mothers is a classic that you need to own, and I humbly suggest you definitely need to give to anyone you know (single father's as well) who is raising children alone.

Curse Mr. Kordyban - he's get me all interested in thermal flow now. This book is great ! It flows [huh] really well, is relatively humourous (no, really), and gets across some basic lessons in electronics cooling. A must read for all you overclockers who are having to put bigger and bigger heatsinks on everything. I followed a few simple recommendations in this book, (just repositioning a few components and adjusting airflow) and now my computers run much cooler (and more stably). Now I can't walk into a datacenter without looking for the ac units, and checking for fans, drive positioning etc. This is a field that I'm convinced is going to be much more important in the future - this handbook is a great introduction to the field and some real practical things you can use right now. If you are looking for some honking big text book, this isn't for you. But who is ?

A very good book for practical thermal engineer. I bought this book twice because the first one was lost.

I read this book while on vacation. The font was big and has an "easy on the eyes" font type. It covers some of the basics and better yet provides some lessons learned from industry. As a mechanical/thermal engineer of 5+ years experience, this book was intersting/useful to me. It provided some insight into what another thermal engineer's experience in industry is like. Relating to similar work relationship(s)/topics also made this book enjoyable.

Highly recommend.

As a practicing electronics design engineer I found the information in the book very interesting. So often the only way to really grasp engineering is through encountering real world problems and having to figure out what is going on. This "opps" engineering approuch is a slow one. This book takes a wealth of real world thermal engineering problems and presents them in a fun, easy to read format giving you the information so you don't have to make the same mistake. It also gives some history behind various industry standards and myths.

The only addition I would have liked would have been a discussion of horizontally mounted PCB's and how heat transfers from these boards.

Started reading, simply could not stop. Direct and to the point, this book based on real facts is simply refreshing, a great source of valuable technical information presented in a very easy to understand and "humorous" fashion, that will keep you going and going and going.

I recommend this book to anyone brave enough to attemp thermal qualification of any type of electronic system, and many "real life" lessons are to be learned. A must in your collection of "got to have" titles !!!

I have to hand it to Mr. Comer and Stevens, they have done an excellent job writing a book that explains everything clearly with very well defined (and actually working) examples.
If you are interested in learning TCP/IP programming on Unix platform this is the only book you need.
It does assume that you have knowledge of some C programming, but it does not assume that you are an expert.
Excellent Book.

I have been using Internetworking with TCP/IP Volume III for almost ten years now to teach a graduate course on client server programming. I think it is perhaps the most perfect textbook ever written. Comer's code is exquisite and can be used to teach clear and efficient coding in C. His explanations are perfect. He says everything that needs to be said, and no more. His presentation about the foundation of all distributed computing is clear concise and on target. Students require some reminders about the fact that this book can't be read like a novel, or like any less competent textbook. They need to read and carefully consider each line. Comer includes everything that is needed in the book and its appendices. In every case, you see very careful and concise statements of how things really work. I just reread his chapter on NFS this morning and was reminded about how he can take the complex and invisible and make it completely understandable.

Professor Comer's books are wonderful, but his contributions don't stop there. If you pride yourself on writing and are new to the academic realm you might find it useful to go to his website and read his advice on writing a dissertation. If you are a PhD student, or a master's student writing a thesis, this should be a mandatory stop. If you are simply a person who takes pride in writing clearly, you will learn important things.

This is a great book and I see why some teachers chose it for grad students. I didn't do well in networks last semester because I had to learn BSD TCP/IP sockets from sources like book snippets my teacher gave me, man pages, and various Internet sources. The textbook I had to buy for class has almost no C code or any explanations about BSD sockets. So, I invested into this and the Richard Stevens (UNIX Network Programming) book. Both are excellent assests.

Pro (This book): I like how it explained what each important function did (like read/write)

Con: The example code could be a little better.

This book is well-written and will be a good reference once I'm through with my class. I bought all 3 volumes since I could get them at a great price. What especially helped: sometimes books would take up to 50 pages explaining a topic. The "Internetworking with TCP/IP" series are excellent at giving the bottom line and at times makes it easier to understand the details within the longer-winded pages of other books. In a way, to me, it's like a set of cliff notes to my textbook.

If you're baffled about network programming, these books might be worth a try.

Get all three volumes. There is no better way to learn TCP/IP. The read is excellent. The examples are very excellent. Definiirly, a classic for years to come.

I used this book from cover to cover in a Unix Socket Programming class. A few good points about this book: 1) The sample do compiled on Linux with no problems. That's a plus. 2) The author emphasized good client-server design principles. 3) The introduction is gentle and very readble. 4) The code sample is directly,simple and not riddled with unnecessary details to "show off" like some authors do.

You don't need much Unix to do exercise in this book.About the only System calls you need to know are fork(),Select(),sigalarm() and execve(). The book could have been expanded to cover HTTP,SOAP and some other protocols to give it a 5stars.

I happen to know C++ and this book is quite useful for learning Java, or at least understanding any given Java program. For each Java construct, the book tells what the equivalent C++ construct is or whether it exists at all. In some cases, it also goes the other way -- for each C++ construct, the Java equivalent.

It also covers some Java libraries and briefly outlays applets. There does not seem to be any coverage of servlets or server-side programming.

As good a reference as it is, it seems to be missing some things, most notably initializations. There are pieces of Java code I've seen something like:

subr1(new Foobar {blah(){foo;} blah1(){bar;}});

i.e., a class (Foobar) is being initialized dynamically before calling a function subr1(). The exact circumstances of initialization of variables and dynamic classes are not covered at all in this book.

Other than that, this book is great.

And like JIAN, there is a good amount of reference material in this book, not with the extended detail of JIAN, but enough to get by most of the stumbling stones one encounters while programming.

As a student, I can only carry so many books in my backpack; when I'm programming in the university labs, I want concise and useful as my qualities. Buy Harry's book! I took Juniper factory training from Harry around 2001. He was an absolutely wonderful teacher, and a genuine expert in both JUNOS and IP networking in general. You could tell he had real-world experience to support his system knowledge as a Juniper staffer. If he writes even half as well as he teaches, this is sure to be a great resource.

This is the only and comprehensive JNCIP lab preparation book available today.The book is well written and covers complete coverage of JNCIP lab.If you understand this book you are good for the actual Lab.

I passed my JNCIP lab using this book and have scheduled my JNCIE for August 2004. I highly recommend this book to anyone that supports Juniper routers or plans to take the exam.

If you are appearing for JNCIP or read how the routing protocols operate in a multi protocol environment with Juniper routers, your best bet is JNCIP book. The book covers lot of scenarios and case studies in great detail. The author/editors need to be commended for such scintillating efforts on publishing a very good book on Juniper routers. This book not only can be used for preparing for the JNCIP exam but also you can put it in your library for reference. But one thing is for sure, this is a great book and better to have a copy f it. I have benefitted by going through this book.

I had the pleasure of picking up my copy of KEEP YOUR DONORS at Simone and Tom's workshop in Smithfield, RI just yesterday. It's a fantastic reference guide, especially helpful when presenting fundraising principles to my CEO. This volume is especially perfect for me, since my duties include both fundraising and marketing. A day after receiving it, I've used the book twice at work. First, drafting our organizational communication plan, I used the sample from Planned Parenthood Maryland along with Tom's tips. Then, I needed to call to thank a donor for their gift, and I thought, "What do I say after I say thank-you? How could I get a conversation going?" To my delight, the book had the answers. Most highly recommended!

Here's a great yarn by a great newsman, a look at one of America's oldest and most colorful cities as seen by arguably the best local newscaster in America. I'd only visited Philly once before reading this, but learned a lot about everything from its hardball politicos to the tough-but-caring quality of its people.
Larry was there to meet, talk to and report on just about everything and everyone in the area for 35 years- and on three stations. Filled with a bottomless supply of anecdotes both gritty and witty, the book not only takes you to "Rocky"'s turf but far afield- did you know he went all the way to Anchorage, of all places, for a papal audience? (He had one in the Vatican too.) Larry's open-hearted, warm personality worked well for him in front of one of the toughest audiences around- ask anyone who's seen those raucous Philly sports crowds- for many years, and it works here too. In short, Larry Kane's a class act, and Philadelphians are incredibly lucky to have him. I'd have been proud to watch him myself- even if I wasn't raised on "Rocky", cheesesteaks, and "da Iggles"!

Larry Kane retired from KYW 3 in December 2002 after 40 years of broadcasting.

I really enjoyed reading _Larry Kane's Philadelphia_ by Larry Kane. I really liked Larry Kane. When I was in high school, I was up until 11:30 almost every weeknight watching Larry Kane on KYW-TV 3 (also known as CBS 3) at 11.

In April 1994, when Bruce Hamilton and Jennifer Ward were the co-anchors of the station's newscasts weeknights at 6 and 11, things weren't going good for KYW 3. So, they got Larry Kane to replace both of them and be the sole anchor weeknights at 11.

It was really fun seeing Larry being the sole anchor weeknights at 11. I really liked his reporting and how he signed off. I really liked the fact that he WAS the newsman in Philadelphia. He was better than Ken Matz (his successor at WCAU-TV 10 when Kane went to KYW-3, and also his predecessor when dealing with affiliates, because when Kane came to KYW, it was then NBC. Because the station's parent company then, Group W Westinghouse, bought CBS, the station became CBS, WCAU became NBC. Thus, Matz was his successor at NBC's local affiliate in Philadelphia, because he was the lead anchor at WCAU) or even Larry Mendte, his successor at KYW (and even Matz's at WCAU).

I feel that after reading th book, Larry Kane showed excellence in broadcasting in Philadelphia, more than Ken Matz, Larry Mendte (Mendte has lived in the Philadelphia area most of his life), or even Tim Lake, Mendte's successor at WCAU.

Being from the Philadelphia area, I was pretty intrested in what Larry Kane would write about. Larry tells good stories and helped me fill in what little details on stories that were reported when I was a kid.You almost have to cheer on a guy who went back to Phildephia to report news despite it being a "smaller market" than New York.If you don't really know the Philadelphia area you my be lost reading this but if you know Philadelphia , you'll be pleasantly suprised at how detailed this is and even laugh out loud at a good Ed Rendell anticdote

A great book for those interested in recent Philadelphia history and culture, or those just looking for an insight into major market TV news. The book seems to reflect Larry's on screen persona: fast paced, open, sometimes cloying, but never dull. Larry's seen a lot of history in his career, and relates it in a highly entertaining book.

Larry Kane, a Philadelphia fixture for 35 years, has outdone himself with this book. It's really well written, and takes you on an unusual ride through the tv business. So far, I understand in its fifth printing, and no wonder. This book should be read by anyone interested in improving the quality of tv news.

I especially enjoyed Kane's self deprecating sense of humor, and his description of Philadelphia. It makes me want to get to know Philadelphia.

Liars, Cheaters and Evil doers helps us chart a course for civil debate...not a polyanna treatise, but the importance of real debate,
calling things the way you see them based on information, reason and justice, not hysteria in which relative truth is subjected to the acid tongoue and the basist instincs, but one that tries to articulate points of view in which people of good intent can forcefully disagree in a way that promotes truth rather than inflames the worst in us. It is an ancient desire and De
Luca and Buell should be commended for risking to take up this mantel in these dangerous times.

Before reading Liars! Cheaters! Evildoers! I was certainly conscious that the tone of our political discourse has always left much to be desired. In the back of my mind, until the last few years when the demonization deepened, I assumed this was to be expected in adversarial situations like politics and we had to live with it. The last few years, though, has only left me feeling hopeless that the situation has progressed beyond the possibility of it ever being civilized.
Since reading Liars! Cheaters! Evildoers! I have become aware that there are so many facets that contribute to the current climate than I ever dreamed of. It is like trickles of water washing down from the melting snows of the mountains. A trickle here, a trickle there, and soon it unites and a mighty river flows. We seem to be in that might river now feeling a force that seems beyond our control.
That is not necessarily so. Reading the thorough and deep analysis of political demonization by Tom De Luca and John Buell will educate on all of the ways in which this situation came about. You can't solve a problem unless you first understand it. This book does that and more. It offers insightful solutions.
This is a must-read book for anyone who cares about having a country that does right by all of its citizens. We can't have serious debate over issues that affect all of us if we can't learn to be civilized, respectful of differing opinions and, most of all, to listen to each other with an open heart. Liars! Cheaters! Evildoers! is a first, and major, step toward that end.

In "Liars! Cheaters! Evildoers!" authors Tom De Luca and John Buell admirably examine the corrosive phenomena of "demonization" in American politics and the harm it has done to our civic discourse and democratic institutions. The scope of their work is breathtaking as they trace the trajectory of "political demonology" in America from its infancy as a clash between puritan conservatism and hedonistic liberalism, to its contemporary manifestation in the virulent culture wars of recent decades as "culture warriors" on both sides of the political divide disparage and demonize their foes. Delving deeper, De Luca and Buell uncover a "moral paradox" inherent in our national character that appears to fuel our need to transform political opponents into enemies. The authors contend that our political culture has now reached a zero-sum impasse engendered by the approximate parity of the two political parties as each seeks victory through mobilizing their core constituencies by exploiting wedge issues and engaging in character-driven politics. Liberals, conservatives, and moderates have all been guilty of this, while those victimized and demonized are very often the most vulnerable among us. De Luca and Buell offer a thoughtful antidote to the polarized partisanship that has seized hold of us. Their goal, a "more generous democratic politics" forged out of a new political covenant based upon true equity and opportunity, is a noble one. This well-crafted and insightful book should be read by everyone who feels strongly that our political discourse must match our best ideals.

"Liars! Cheaters! Evildoers!" by Tom DeLuca and John Buell is a welcome antidote to the shrill ideological slugfests that fill the airwaves disguised as political discourse. Their simple formula, "proper condemnation requires appropriate distinctions," is a call to end the simplistic retreat to demonization in civil debate, and demands that we aspire to, and require, a higher standard of discourse from ourselves, colleagues, elected officials and the media. This book offers valuable analysis and a hopeful conclusion to so many of us who despair of the current political climate.

Although I agree with other reviewers that this is a much-needed and thoughtful study of a serious problem in American political discourse, I found the text tough going. I suspect that previous reviewers might have some background in Political Science that I lack. Although I have a PhD from the University of Chicago, it's in a Humanities field, and not Social Sciences.

The title suggests a lively, down-to-earth volume, with a lot of specific examples, but instead the book turns out to be dry, abstract, highly theoretical, and filled with the kind of jargon academics use in communicating with one another, while shutting out the general public.

Despite this problem, the book does have many interesting insights to offer, particularly on the role president Bush's religious fundamentalism plays in his political behavior. But that's old news. Anybody who's been paying attention in the years since Bush became president knows that he and his circle are determined to turn the United States into a fundamentalist theocracy, and are succeeding at a terrifying rate.

In a televised speech, co-author Tom De Luca noted: "It's not demonization when you have the goods on somebody." De Luca's book did not succeed in changing my opinion that America is now in the hands of the most absolutely and irredeemably evil people ever to hold power in the entire history of this country-- and we DO "have the goods" on them. But the opposition (the spineless and cowering Democrats) lacks the courage to do anything with the edivence.

This book rewards close reading but be warned-- you're going to have to work to get the message!

From beginner to expert this book contains all of the answers to your lingo needs. It is packed with examples and thorough descriptions.

This book has got to be the best computer related book I ever bought. I wish there were reference books in this format for every other programming subject like Perl and JavaScript. It's the only book you will ever need for Director's lingo.

The thing I like most is having the Lingo grouped by subject, it makes things so easy to look up.

If you are already familiar with the Director interface, and want to do things in Lingo that most people only wish they could do, pick this book up right now! This is the only book I use on a daily basis for quick information. Darrel Plant not only gives a clear explanation on every command but also gives you examples that you can understand and use in everyday applications. I also greatly appreciated the way that the book content is organized. Rather than list the commands in alphabetical order, they are grouped according to the type of element or function that they control. It's nice to put something together that the user/client likes, but use this book and they will be saying, "Awsome! Love it! Wow, how did you do that?" ------ Thanks Darrel

...your life will be easier if this book is within reach. I even take it with when I have to go on-site to a client. Very useful having the Lingo grouped by subject. Also very useful icons by each Lingo word showing if it can be used in Shockwave and which versions of Director it can be used in. A must-have for a Lingo programmer.

(excuse my english, I'm Swiss) Before purchasing this book or even knowing about it, I had some heavy problems in finding the right way (or a shorter one) to solve several problems in programming Multimedia-applications. I ordered this book and everything changed! It's descriptions are so easy (even when you aren't originally english-speaking!), because you just can read the text and know what the command, keyword, property a.s.o. is all about. You have even more than one solution showed in examples. There is only one bad thing: if you use this book very often, the cover of the book looks old soon; it could be a little stronger. My suggestion: if you suffer a headache from studying and controlling your non-functioning scripts, you better get this book as soon as possible and keep it handy! You will gain a hell of a time!

Although the typos are numerous, this book is an excellent guide for SharePoint administrators. SharePoint users probably won't want to wade through all the technical details included in this book so it shouldn't be difficult to keep it on the administrator's desk. If you get just one book, get this one!

I should have read all the reviews on this. I thought it was a developer book. But having said that, I thought this book is quite informative to developers as well. There are some very minor typo errors but, as another reviewer said, I like the style of the author in the way he presented and discussed the subjects. I also like the timing of the small (and what I call) a "diversion" section where he mentions other things that may be somewhat related to the topic he was currently discussing.

Overall, I'd recommend this book as a companion book if you are a developer. Very good admin reference! It is probably the best one at the moment.

If you are looking for a book that will actually explain how to install a single server or farm, this is it. The author goes into great detail, including how to set the SQL server permissions. Every SharePoint administrator should have this book. It is more useful than even the Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 Administrator's Companion.

The best book on SharePoint Services 3.0 and I have read just about every book about SharePoint Services. Bookmark her blog at [...]. Also get Inside Microsoft Windows Services 3.0 by Ted Pattison and Daniel Larson and Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007 Step by Step by Penelope Coventry.

I come to this as a database developer with 25 years experience and with absolutely no knowledge of SharePoint. I rarely write a review. But on this book, I had to do so.

When I first started to administer and develop in SharePoint, I knew nothing about it. So I got 5 books. I still use one other book (the development book) for the heavy lifting but most of the time I use Mastering Windows SharePoint Services by Callahan.

I have several friends in other organizations that administer SharePoint. The ones who have training and knowledge love it. Those that do not, hate it. This is one way to get that information.

First, Callahan shows in detail how to install and secure SharePoint as he lists the underlying functions such as email, searching, and accounts.

Then, one command at a time he takes us through the process of all the services - lists, libraries, web parts, work spaces, and others.

Next, he demonstrates how granular the rights and privileges can be given. Specific users can see, access, use, or modify exactly what the site director decides while he monitors the activity.

Each step of every example is demonstrated throughout. Then the background information is discussed in depth.

Whether you are new to SharePoint or you are an administrator on it, this book will answer most of your questions.
