Everyone is chasing Venusian goodies, love, money, charm, beauty .. I was truly thankful that Jalaja reminded us about something just as important: our sexuality. The openness and honesty of these stories made this book an intimate experience for me.

This book is so empowering!... I highly recommend it to every woman regardless of age, faith, or sexual orientation. I read this book slowly, one chapter a day, in order to fully absorb and appreciate each and every word. Each chapter takes you on a new journey and touches your soul unlike any book I've ever read. From the moment I started reading, the book itself, came alive right in my hands. It is full of energy, wisdom, grief, and love. I am now more in touch with my inner goddess than ever before! As one of the other reviewers suggested.... don't loan it out[!] ;)

In the introduction of this book Jalaja Bonheim tells the incredible story of her journey through India and her discovery of the history of Indian dance.

I continued to read the book and suddenly I could not put it down. She tells the sexual stories of many women: pregnancy, rape, incest, bisexuality, marriage, relationships, polyamory, passionate monogamy etc. Jalaja writes about different women's experiences and doesn't try to push her opinions onto the reader. While reading the stories you can explore your own sexuality, and what it means to you personally. Jalaja's insights were incredible, and changed my life (at a time when I really needed a deeper understanding of sexual abuse and intimacy). This has become one of my favorite books on women's sexuality, and it probably always will be.

This book is completely amazing. Bonheim interviews "ordinary" women about the connections they perceive between sex and the divine in their lives, and explores the themes of their stories using myths and philosophy from around the world.
It's easy to read, moving, and inspiring. I couldn't put it down. Without a doubt the best book I've read in the past year, and I've read a lot! I can't recommend it highly enough.

A must-read for any sexual woman on the spiritual path!

The Audio Dictionary has a reserved spot on my desk. I have had it only a few weeks and already it looks as if I have had it for five years. I find myself constantly refering to it for specification writing, white papers and design/bid documents. Gary and Glen have really outdone themselves in creating this masterful work.

When I first got into audio engineering there was no way of understanding some of the more technical concepts I was expected to know. This book makes it really easy to understand a lot of the terms, I still always keep this book handy when I'm reading an AES journal article, just to help me out if there is something I don't understand.

The Audio Dictionary is a great book for anyone who's looking for a concise, clear explanation of any audio-related term. It's not (and does not pretend to be) a complete treaty like the Handbook for Sound Engineers, but offers a quick and reliable solution for those questions for which you don't have an answer from the top of your head and don't want to spend 2 hours reading the complete scientific explanation.

I consider it a must-have for any Audio Engineer who takes his profession seriously and have at least one copy in the library of each school we operate in Spain.

I bought this book in a rush when I got a job editing on an Avid. I had limited Avid experience, but I am extremely proficient on Final Cut Pro. I used this book to learn some very basic skills in the week before my job started. The book is simple and good for beginners, and only suffers slightly because of this when intermediates try to use the book. Reading the book front to back before ever touching an Avid definitely works. But if you're not a beginner, the order of chapters can be quite frustrating. The few words of wisdom on actual editing technique were unexpected but a nice break from the technical lessons.

I was familiar with editing, but had never used Avid software before. When I installed Avid Express Pro software on my home computer I immediately started a new project. I thought that since I knew editing I would easily figure out the Avid software. Wrong. I muddled through it and finished the project, but it took longer than forever, and I seriously simplified the project because I couldn't figure out many of the functions. This book does a great job of explaining the Avid interface in easy to understand language. The book also included a CD-ROM with practice projects.

When I purchased my Avid Express DV software I had zero video editing experience. I knew the software was fairly complex, had a lot of capabilities, and the learning curve would be steep, so I also purchased the Avid turorial DVDs. However, with no editing background, after viewing these DVDs I just wasn't "getting it."

Kauffmann's book was perfect for me. It starts with the fundamentals (video formats, hooking up the hardware and turning the system on, etc.) and goes on from there to cover everything though fine tuning audio and doing color correction.

By reading the book (mostly) though once then using it as a "cookbook" while editing, in just a few days I was up and running and capturing, editing, and fine tuning my videos. Admittedly, Kauffmann does not go into great depth in some areas (which he acknowledges) but for someone who's just getting started this is an excellent book and will get you well on the road. I would highly recommend it to anyone just getting started and trying to learn Avid.

Real world BGP - advanced solutions

Review Date: 2004-04-19
This book provides an excellent reference for understanding advanced BGP designs and implementations. It expands on the general BGP functionality and configuration covered in other BGP books like Internet Routing Architectures (ISBN: 157870233X). If you need a general BGP book or are just starting to learn BGP, start with Internet Routing Architectures to learn about BGP then use this book to understand how to use BGP.

Advanced BGP design concepts are presented in a logical flow and practical design scenarios are included to help you understand how and why the concept is deployed. In addition to advanced BGP designs, topics covered are performance tuning, policy control, Enterprise and Service Provider design guidelines, MPLS VPN, Multicast and IPv6. These are topics not clearly discussed in Cisco documentation with this same emphasis on learning advanced BGP concepts. My only wish (not a complaint in any way) is that a chapter or appendix was included as a general BGP review for reference. Maybe in the 2nd edition as the book is updated? Kudos to the authors and Cisco Press for compiling this information in such a useful and readable book! Highly recommend!!

What an awesome book!

This book answered so many questions I had about how the Internet works and how enterprises can use BGP in their networks. The writing style is clear and a pleasure to read. I did not notice any errors or typos. This is one of the best Cisco Press books I've read. The material covered is a logical extension (fill-the-gaps) for the knowledge one gains when studying BGP as part of the CCNP/CCDP BSCI exam. The case studies for enterprise BGP core design and Internet connectivity were one of the most interesting and useful real-world scenarios one can strive to implement. Same for the service provider examples. One caution however, this is not "beginner" material. One would greatly benefit from having a CCNP-level understanding of BGP prior to attacking this book.

This book starts by identifying key features and functionality in BGP. It then delves into the topics of performance tuning, routing policy development, and architectural scalability. It progresses by examining the challenges for both the service provider and enterprise customers, and provides practical guidelines and a design framework for each. BGP Design and Implementation finishes up by closely looking at the more recent extensions to BGP through Multi-Protocol BGP for MPLS-VPN, IP Multicast, IPv6, and CLNS.

I purchased this book both to supplant my knowledge of BGP and as a resource for my CCIE studies. I found the book to be of value more towards practical implementations of BGP. This book is geared toward a high-level architecture - not if only needing to design a 10 node BGP community. One down side is there are not that many configs. On the flip side, nearly every page either has a diagram or show output. One chapter of value is Chapter 8, which focuses on Route Reflection and Confederations. The book also makes good use of Regular Expressions (pg 110) and route conditions - something that is sorely missing in CiscoPress cannon. The last few chapters dive into support for multiprotocol extensions (MPLS VPNs and IPv6). While, upon reflection, I don't believe this book is a necessary tool for the CCIE, it is certainly a book worthy of it's title.

I give this book 4 pings out of 5:

I would just like to add my comments to the list of reviews: if you work with BGP this book is essential! What makes this book unique is that it is intended for the real-world, production environment engineer, with outstanding results. Personally, I have used this book on two major projects with excellent results; I am sure I would not have been able to find this type of information, knowledge in any single place - if at all - since as another reviewer noted, it distills years of practical experience into a well organized, accessible format. Again, my thanks to Mssrs. Zhang and Bartell for a truly outstanding, practical book that has saved me hours of work, research. Highly recommended!!

A good book to learn the ropes

A great book for beginner's and intermediate robot builders. The book gives a great overview from structural to electrical construction and gives good advice on what to buy and where. It provides an brief explanation of each device and how to make it work best without getting into the complicated workings of each device (unlike David Cook, author of Robot Building for Beginner and its sequel ) I used it extensively when i first started out and still use it for reference. It is a fairly new book so none of the information is really outdated.

If you want to build radio controlled robots then this is the book to get. Good price and a long-lasting buy. Easy to read and understand (except in some of the radio sections, they take a little bit of thinking).

Cons: I wish he would have included more advice on where to find some of the parts. He does list some websites in the back but i had better luck searching what i needed in google. He doesn't talk to much about "aftermarket" antennas for both the video/audio reviver or R/C unit.

Really the only other draw back was then he talked about speed controllers. It is probably the most confusing section and boring. He didn't talk about how to hook everything up either. As far as speed controllers go he didn't discuss dual over single motor controls per unit and amperage considerations. I didn't see anything about fuses or breakers in there either which are important in protecting what will be an investment.

Finally he didn't talk about where to get motors if you don't want to or can't get old used wheelchairs.

Overall it is a good book and deserves a look from any builder.

Easy to read, but not an exact blueprint of how to build the two robots he presents. The author does explain the robot design in layman's terms, and with a sense of humor. He does go over the entire building process in general terms, without much techninal detail. He recounts a few of his mistakes, like his 400-pound monster robot going haywire and wreaking havoc. It was really fun to read.

He presents a lot of sources of information and components, which I have found very useful. He has done an excellent job of using affordable and available components.

The robots he built are very impressive in size and scale (150lbs and up!), yet are not excessively complex. The robots are radio-controlled, however - very little information is given on software/AI development. He does an excellent job with explaining the mechanical frame, drivetrain, and housing construction. There is some useful information on electrical/electronics components as well.

If you want to build an impressive robot for a reasonable cost, but are somewhat lacking in mechanical design (describes me exactly), than this book is for you. You'll need to be able to do some basic welding - but it's not hard. As of this writing, i'm 30% finished on my robot.

In summary, I highly recommend this book for some educational and humorous reading

Finally! A robotics based book with some real substance!

I've purchased and read (well partially) several books written about robotics. The reason I mentioned partially is they all disappoint me to near disgust. They all re-hash silly things such as resistor color codes, number systems, and skim over discrete electronic component operational theory - often erroneously. The authors even copy and paste microcontroller instruction tables into the book! (This information can be found free on the web.) Anything to stuff the pages. All this is available in other books on the subject of basic electronics. I'll step off the soap box long enough to say thanks to these authors: Brad Graham, Kathy McGowan, and Brad Graham. This book descibes great ideas for home built machines for guys with real tools. Although it still lacks in some areas, it should provide the really mechanically oriented with inspriation to build some utilitarian machines. You won't find any ideas for toys made from hose clamps and duct tape with a 9 volt battery for a base in this book. So, if all you have access to is a soldering iron and a hobby shop this isn't the book for you. But, if you're looking to get real with some machines to entertain and/or do some work then this book is a must read.

This is a corner-stone of Cisco routing engine explanation. It doesn't contain any braindump stuff like many books do. But it covers many topics: theoretical basis, IOS pseudo code explanations, configuration examples and trace/debugging methods. There are also many interesting details and gismos that I didn't find anywhere . It's very useful as a preparation guide -- you have to read this book if you do want to pass some sort of serious Cisco's exams (I mean CCNP or CCIE). So it's outstanding title (in other words -- it worth to spend 50+ bucks for it guyz!) :))

Btw, now I'm waiting for your next book. Why not? Will it be dedicated to MPLS or MLOSPF? Huh? :))

This book is not for the faint of heart.
Ever read a book and find a sentence that makes you say "man that one fact was worth the cash!". You get about one sentence like that every page in this text.

Example:
ip route 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0 s0 172.17.1.33

I bought the book because I wanted to understand when, why, and how that command works. All of my questions were answered.

Since I'm not a programmer some of the explainations took me awhile to get, but worth it.

Gold.

The first time I heard this book is when I took the Internetworkexpert's online course. Brian McGahan recommended it. Becuase of its high customer rating, this book should have something worth studying. After reading through a couple of chapters, I feel it is a great book in IP Routing protocols.

This book presents concepts along with router outcome, so it's fairly easy to follow the author's logic in each different technology. This makes this book easy to digest. The way it presents how routing protocols work is very similar to Doyle's TCPIP vol.1. Yet, its editing style is more concise and it covers more in-depth materials in the IGP area.

Associated with Doyle's TCPIP and Parkhurst's OSPF, this book should be a required reading for CCIE RS candidates.

With my CCNA exam date staring straight at me, I decided to finally read my copy of Alex Zinin's 'Cisco IP Routing.' This book clearly exceeds the level of knowledge to pass Cisco's entry level certification. It is aimed more at CCNPs or CCIEs who need a deeper understanding of Cisco routing. Nevertheless, I found the book's explanations of certain subjects to be absolutely outstanding, even for a CCNA candidate. I recommend anyone wishing to learn Cisco router operations read 'Cisco IP Routing.'

This book seeks to deliver the 'why' as well as the 'how' of Cisco routing. It was published in late 2001 and uses IOS 12.1 as its reference platform. This IOS version is recent enough to meet my expectations, so don't fear that the book may not apply to more recent Cisco software and hardware. Remember that the 2600 series router was introduced in January 1999, and the modular 2600XM series arrived only in May 2002.

The first compelling aspect of 'Cisco IP Routing' is its exceptionally well-written and thorough explanations of various routing topics. Although my understanding of the subject was improved by reading Todd Lammle's Sybex CCNA books, Alex Zinin's approach assisted me immensely. For example, he helped me understand that classful addressing offers basic subnetting, which 'was used in the real world long before VLSM [Variable-Length Subnet Masks] appeared' (p. 22). He made it clear on p. 52 that 'when multiple matching routes are available to the same destination, routers choose the longest matching route to forward the packets.' This allows specifying a default route that is only used when more specific routes do not match a given destination.

Beyond very insightful routing discussions, Alex makes his point using a variety of methods. In some cases he presents tables that compare protocols. Elsewhere he uses diagrams or figures. Throughout the book he demonstrates syntax and configuration, along with debugging messages showing how protocols work in real life. His innovative use of 'pseudo-code' shows how Cisco might represent protocol information within IOS itself. In many chapters he presents and answers frequently asked questions. These help to dispel myths readers may have concerning Cisco routers.

I cannot complain about any real aspect of this book. As a minor point, Alex's thorough examinations of routing packet headers should have been augmented by real packet traces. I would like to see a companion volume introduce topics like spanning tree, BGP, and other routing and switching issues. Readers looking for such coverage now might like Radia Perlman's 'Interconnections, 2nd Ed' and Iljitsch van Beijnum's 'BGP.'

If you want to truly learn what your Cisco router does when it makes forwarding decisions, you must read 'Cisco IP Routing.' I have not seen any other books so powerfully expose the inner workings of these critical systems.

I love this book and would wholeheartedly recommend it for every househould. Families and coworkers can have the best intentions, but if the language we use is what we all grew up with - a war-like model - then it can be confusing and frustrating when our interactions with people make us feel worse than before. I like how this book dissects the language we typically use (most of it rang all too familiar!), then offers new ways of communicating the same thing with language that helps the other person feel more receptive.

I've started using these techniques at home and at work, and I can't speak highly enough about it. I really learned a lot, and I feel more empowered in my communication skills, even in difficult of situations - not that I don't fall back into old ways. But when I do, it's a reminder of how different the results are when you use language consciously or unconsciously.

The concept of using language creatively to generate harmony is such an obvious but brilliant observation. The way the author breaks everything down into examples makes it seem really possible for anyone to transform and improve how they interact with the world. (The index of examples is really helpful!)

I Agree---This Is An Amazing Book

I read all the reviews by other readers of this book and was surprised that everyone gave it 5 stars. After reading it, I have to agree with them. The things Sharon Ellison is teaching in this book are amazing. I wish I would have known about them sooner or that it was a part of my early education.

In any case, I want to spread the word about how to communicate in a non-defensive way. I am lending my copy of the book to everyone I know. It is more empowering than using defensive communication. And I really feel like it is necessary for the next step in our human evolution in order for our humanity to catch up with our technology (something Sharon Ellison writes about in the last chapters of the book).

I have no reservation in recommending this book.

One of the most practical books on communication and conflict resolution

I own a lot of books on listening, communication and conflict resolution. This book is one of the better ones because it presents a lot of useful concepts in an easy to apply manner.

The book begins by covering different communication styles and the thinking that underlies each style. It then goes on to present a non-defensive model and shows how it works, why it makes sense and how to put it into practice.

This book also talks about developing specific attitudes toward honesty and compassion. In other words, it is more than a text of communication techniques.

If you have read a lot in this area or a little, you will find this to be a very useful book. I also recommend "Crucial Conversations."

Helped me with defensive teen

I had bought this book, thinking it would teach my teen how to be less defensive. What it did was teach me how to deal with her defensiveness. I found that, by using the book's techniques, I was able to defuse potential battles and our house is much, much calmer as I can now defuse the power struggles she initiates. I also found that I have used the techniques many times with others in the family and with those in various groups to which I belong. I have been reading and re-reading the book ever since I got it a year ago, to ingrain the techniques. I cannot recommend this book more highly. It opened my eyes and changed my way of communicating.

This book is a must! Really.

I happened upon this book surfing the net for something else, and when I saw the title, I ordered it right away hoping it would be good. I haven't finished it yet, because my husband and I are reading it aloud to each other whenever we get the chance. But we are well into it, and it is excellent. I can't believe it isn't more popular.

The first part of the book is about how we (as a culture) learn to communicate and use language based on a war model. She gives examples of every war tactic and how that plays out in real-life day-to-day situations. I guarantee, they will all be familiar to you. She doesn't miss much in analyzing how people unintentionally communicate poorly with one another. I went to a party after reading that section and was hyper-aware of how I and others communicated. It was very interesting and helpful. But I couldn't wait to get to the next section on how to communicate well!

The rest of the book is about how to replace the old unhealthy way of communicating with a healthy way of communicating that gives you power and confidence in your day-to-day interactions, and minimizes conflict. Her theory that we need to "take the war out of our words" before we can achieve peace at home and in the world, to me, seems like an obvious but brilliant perception. She seems very dedicated to spreading this message and educating people. I think she does an excellent job. This is the kind of stuff I wish we were learning in our schools! Great read.

The author understands the intricacies of modern, father-daughter relationships and helps a daughter to understand, and emotionally embrace, this person people call "father". The author takes a woman, who is desiring to have a relationship with her father, through an enlightening journey of discovery of her own feelings and thoughts, and those of her father. It is obvious that the author understands her subject matter and basic human nature. The insights that the author leads us to are nothing short of amazing! If you read this book and are unchanged, demand your money back and check with the morgue to see if you're still breathing.

The book is addressed to daughters who miss their fathers, physically, emotionally etc. But I gained a lot of insights on what daughters really expect and miss from fathers. Dr.Nielson takes the reader through a human development cycle on how much daughters can give their fathers in terms of love and opportunities to learn, grow and become better human beings, and contribute to family solidarity through empathy. Dr.Nielson advocates a "voluntarist" conception of love. A great departure from screaming "what's in it for me?" That is not to say that she discounts reciprocity in relationships.

The context addressed is set in the US culture of the post 1960 decades. However, the basic motivations are applicable universally. I have lived in the US among young people for over 12 years as a student and as a Univ Faculty. Now, in India I perceive the same problems and the message that parents have even more to learn through interaction with their children. The emphasis on daughters adds more emotional content and nuances to the discourse. I would observe that most of the problems and solutions discussed in the book apply equally well to sons.

There is an elemental message that runs through the book. It urges parents to come out of their pre-conceived roles, inhibitions and relate directly one to one with their children. It echoes TSElliot's view that a cultural role is only a formal outcome of fundamental motivations and rationale`. We will be better off looking for those fundamental rationale` instead of assuming roles and be mere consumers.

Taking time out to read this book has been a blessing to my life and so many of my sisters. We are single mothers who have been divorced and raising girls on our own. The importance of relationships with our daughters and their fathers is essential and Dr. Nielsen did a wonderful job making the interactions realistic and meaningful. I would recommend this book to all of my african american sisters who often times need alittle help from the fathers of their daughters. Thank you Dr. Neilsen for your caring enough to give us sisters a hand at mending and reintiating father-daughter relationships. I can't wait to read more!

This book is the most insightful, rewarding book I have read in years. Dr. Nielsen unfolds and unlocks real information in a format that you can grasp and apply. It should be a required read for every female, even if she has a good relationship with her father or her father has passed. Pure unlightenment and understanding ~ that is what you walk away with after reading this book. It was very, very helpful to understand more completely the demeaning and demoralizing of divorced fathers. I believe this is a real issue in today's world and she addresses it head on. I would love to see a book by this title from Dr. Nielsen. What a gift to the world that book would be! I hope to see Dr. Nielsen on Oprah and Dr. Phil promoting her book very soon.

A wonderful relationship with your father is truly one of life's greatest joys. But how can we find this if we don't already have it? Dr. Nielsen's book provides many practical and creative suggestions for doing just this. We did not choose our father or the life we had as a child. However, we can choose to change the way we interact with our dad once we are adults. Dr. Nielsen uses a variety of interesting techniques: short questionnairss to focus on specific problems; "Eye Opener" research summaries to provide perspective; and sample dialogues to help us get started talking with our dad. Dr. Nielsen's academic credentials give her the credibility to write this ground-breaking book. And her warm, encouraging voice and helpful ideas give us the courage to actually try to reconnect with our dad. I am recommending this book to all of my friends who are puzzled, angry, or disappointed with their father. It's never too early, or too late, to start.

As a telecommunications manager for a large firm, voice messaging is one of my headaches. This book is a great help to people who fumble, mutter, speak in rapid fire, or just get nervous leaving voicemail messages. As the author says, all the telecomm industry has ever done is give out flow charts showing people which button to push for which function. This bok finally shows people how to communicate, not just press buttons!

Bravo to Paul LeBon for this no-nonsense, easy-to-apply productivity maximizer!

I had spent the past couple of years complaining that technology is turning us all into slaves. There's so much information to keep up with. There are always so many responses and answers demanded of us to supply, that I had been feeling like I was living at the mercy of the technology that was supposed to be making my life easier.

"Escape from Voicemail Hell" is crammed with powerful ideas on how to harness the power of your voicemail to serve you, not the other way around. I have learned how to get people to leave me more concise and thought-out messages, how to approach my callbacks strategically, and how to get the information I want and need from others with a lot less effort.

I didn't even realize how much I needed this book until I picked it up. Not only do I see how much more effective I am by following its principles, but my boss and my clients have made positive comments to me, as well. I've been amazed by how simple, yet powerful it has been to turn LeBon's advice to my advantage. I highly recommend this book. I've gotten so much out of it.
