Who doesn't love those Little People? Your favorite Little Person will be screaming and laughing in anticipation of what is under the next flap in this book. Fisher Price, as usual, had Little People in mind when they made these sturdy lift flaps - they will last much longer than your average lift the flap book. This book is a terrific springboard to a shopping trip with your little one - or playtime with Little People toys. It is a steal at less than $4.00!

This book is informative in every sense of the way. Doing a project for French class first made me look to this book but, the author opens you up to a totally different world. If you are looking to go to France or even if you would like to enhance your knowlege of the country I greatly recomend it.

This book is NOT a listing of restaurants... It's much better than that! It is a region-by-region guide to the gastronomic specialties of France. I particularly liked the format which provides a general overview for province or region, then proceeds to list specifics in a series of box-type menus, followed by personal anecdotes. The best seasons to buy, local market days, suggestions for ordering, pitfalls to avoid... they're all included here. A most entertaining and interesting sourcebook, it's well worth taking with you on a voyage to 'la belle France.'

This book is quite often found in the vegetable section of the Safeway grocery stores in California. It is an excellent reference on what the vegetable is and how to work with it in the kitchen.

This book is more than a guide, it is a necessity!

This book is loaded with information, pictures, recipes, tips and more. It is so helpful to know how to buy ripe fruit, to know which fruits don't ripen after purchase, to know how to select and prepare various vegetables, and so on. It is a great book for getting educated about produce so you can stop wasting money on less than delicious fruits and veggies and so you can start adding great nutrition to your diet. Buy it today!

One of the most dog-eared kitchen reference book I have.

If there's ever a vegetable, you see in the market but don't have a clue about how to prepare, this is the book to have with you or at home. It tells the history, several ways to cook, how to serve, and how to best appreciate usual and unusual varieties of well known and not so well known vegetables. I've been able to happily sample many new delicacies because of this book alone. I wish it was not out of print. I've given it to many, many friends and relatives as gifts.

The FYI fashion guide is a unique and useful source for shopping in the big apple. If you find yourself in New York with only a limited time to shop, I suggest you pick up an FYI fashion guide. It not only allows you to be sympathetic to your wallet, but generous to your wardrobe. It's a must buy!

Well finally a resource that takes pity on the non-New Yorker. Tara Lowenberg and Christopher Zalla have organized an extraordinarily valuable guide for shopping in New York City, with decreased frustration, less wasted time, fewer unnecessary cab fares and diminished sore feet. The guide also provides hours of fantasy reading prior to shopping. All of us "Out of Towners" thank you.

As a life-long obsessive New York Shopper, I thought I knew it all until I found this book. Not only was the book loaded with great little boutiques and bargains I didn't know about, but its Label Locator Index allows you to find EVERY label in New York City and lists EVERY store that carries it. Bravo!

I really enjoyed this book! What makes it even more special is that I got to visit with the author, Andie Weathers, at Christmas time. She graciosly spent the time discussing the whole process of writing and publishing a book. I highly recommend this picture book for any child who wants to learn about sea life and Charleston, South Carolina!...I thoroughly enjoyed it and learned a lot from it. I look forward to Andie's next book!

This beautifully illustrated book is an engaging tale about a little hermit crab that travels to various real-life destinations looking for a new shell (because Hermy has outgrown his old shell). Like most children, my kids (ages 8, 6 and 4) love the beach, and they were captivated by the Hermy story and illustrations. The main character is a hermit crab, but the cast of characters includes some other ocean favorites, such as a sand dollar and a sea horse. The lighthouse and shipwreck captured my son's attention. The innovative format includes a map of Hermy's journey, and an informative "Hermy's Beachside Glossary" that answered many questions that my children had. There is also a detailed write-up of the biology of the hermit crab included at the end, which provided enrichment for my 8-year-old and me! My children are avid readers and it is often difficult to find new books that capture their attention---Hermy the Hermit Crab was a welcome, rare find. We have given this book to other kids for a birthay present, and it was a winner.

The book is well written for children of all ages. It is a wonderful lesson about the creatures of the sea. While it captures the true essence of the sea life of the South Carolina coast, it is a book that anyone across the country will enjoy and relate to.

However, it is the incredible illustrations that make the book come to life. The animated creatures appear human-like but do not lose their sea creature-like quality. The vivid colors and attention to detail will capture the attention of the reader (young or old) for hours.

Oooh-la la! Just what shopaholics and shopophobics need to make sense of the mall madness! Industry insider Susan Redstone offers a shopping plan and fashion formula that removes the guess-work and haphazard-ness of the shopping experience--and helps us guard against our dangerous impulses that only lead to shopper's remorse. The style is fun, down-to-earth and engaging. The first purchase every gal should make for 2008 is Ms. Redstone;s "Just Try It On!"

I thought this book would be a good purchase after a quick glance through it. I am now about three-quarters of the way through and I have decided I think it is one of the best books on fashion out there, and I have read almost every single one. Redstone seriously knows her stuff. This book will teach you when all the best merchandise hits the stores, and Redstone counsels you on when to spend and when to hold off. For someone who generally is an impulse buyer and needs to control her spending, this book truly helps put together a fashion budget and timeline. There is so much detail in here, from what color sunglasses go with what hair color, to figuring out just how fancy you need to go for an occasion. If you are someone who loves pictures, there are none here for you; however, I highly recommend you make the purchase and read it.

One trick I have already tried this week was the "two bag theory." I selected a smaller purse in which I put my essentials, and fit it inside a larger bag that holds everything else I need for work. It is so much easier and more stylish that carrying 2 bags all the time!

Redstone's objective it to help the reader determine the best time of year to shop for key items. She breaks down the merchandising schedule by month so shoppers know when the latest looks in certain items will hit stores. In addition, Redstone gives great tips on selecting pieces to cultivate one's personal style.

If you're familiar with Tim Gunn, Redstone's catch phrase ("Just Try It On") sounds a bit contrived. But this book is a great complement to Gunn's Guide because Redstone goes in-depth with certain things that Tim Gunn only mentions. For example, Tim Gunn has a chapter about accessories, but Redstone has several, discussing jewelry (including a watch wardrobe), shoes, handbags, sunglasses.

Overall, highly recommended.

I fell in love with Dayle Ann Dodds book, "Sing, Sophie". My love for this author's books has continued with the "The Kettles Get New Clothes". The story is engaging and the pictures are darling.
The Kettles go into the city on their annual shopping trip to find their usual store has changed into an upscale boutique. A very eager boutique owner guides the family through the world of high fashion. However, this family prefers clothes that are plain and simple, except one. Every family member leaves the story happy with their new clothes. The boutique owner is happy in the end as well with the family member that's a little more adventurous.
You'll love this book! GUARANTEED!

When the Kettle family goes shopping at a fancy new store, they have trouble finding the right clothes. However, Monsieur Pip's customers always leave happy!

Children will love to watch this family of dogs get dressed up, and they may even learn a few French words in the process.

This reminded me of the Berenstain book Old Hat, New Hat -- with a twist. The Kettles, a family of dogs, go into town for their once-a-year shopping trip to purchase the same old clothes they always wear. They find that the store they always visit has been replaced by an upscale shop, but enter and find an eager clerk.

He brings out a series of outfits, each more colorful and wilder than the previous set, to everyone's dismay except the youngest Kettle. She alone seems to love the checks, dots, and plaids. Finally the clerk brings out the plainest thing he has (in total and comical desperation), pleasing everyone except the baby. Fortunately, everyone leaves the store happy in the end.

My five-year-old requested this book several nights running after I brought it home from the library and I plan to purchase it for her birthday. It's a funny story with cute pictures to pore over.

I thought high London prices would keep me from shopping on an upcoming trip, but this book has lots of budget-friendly shopping ideas. And I love the feature that lists a bit of culture nearby -- that way I can combine my love of shopping with a little art or architecture to alleviate the guilt. Highly recommended!

Whether you read it beforehand and map out your shopping or just read it on the fly as I did, you'll be glad to have this down-to-earth, practical information in an easy-to-reference guide. I had very little time in London to shop and I really wanted to find some specific things for myself and others. Although I've traveled fairly widely, I don't know London well. Even without a real language barrier, I wasn't sure I'd be able to get everything done, but I did. London Shopping Companion is more than a companion, it's a true friend. If you want to find all your must-buys-in-London easily, then this little book is a must-own.

I used this book to plan a recent trip to London and found it easy to use, quite informative, and just plain fun to read. I used it to plan shopping in combination with sightseeing -- so I really appreciated the book's organization (by area) and its lists of attractions and restaurants near to each shopping district. The store descriptions are accurate, and I was able to find unique items, for myself and as gifts, in all price ranges. Thanks to The London Shopping Companion, I was totally organized and ready to hit the ground running when I landed in London.

This book is wonderful. Sara Donovan has the perfect blend of content and compassion. By content, I mean that I found the information truly meaty, and I was pleasantly surprised to discover unique tips that I had never read anywhere else. By compassion, I mean that her style leads me to believe that somehow she knows me and wrote this book just for my benefit! She understands my resistance, my interests, and my concerns. I only wish this had been the FIRST book I ever bought on walking or fitness or weight loss. I would be rich today.
