This was supposed to be a book about BARGAINS! Not a book by some idiot yuppie whining about her life. Lady, if you don't want to change diapers, don't have a baby, OK!

What a moronic book! It's more therapy for the author than advice for the reader!

bargins are great, puns are tiring

This book has some wonderful tips for shopping. Stephanie has great ideas and presents the facts well. It is very boring reading through all of her little stories to get to the information I am looking for in this book. I wish there was a way to get her information and not have to read her whinning and telling us how awful thing are in her life.

I'd give it five stars!

This book was exactly what I was looking for -- plenty of resources for discounts on travel, clothing, furniture, baby items. I gave it to my sister, and she won't return it!

Not just the laziest shopper

While I enjoyed Ms. Gallagher's first book and a few of her articles in magazines it appears she was not at her best here. If I want advise on how to shop on the internet or at discount house's she gives a lot of names but not much on the substaince of purchasing. This book should include the statement "the self proclaimed laziest research write", not the laziest shopper.

A waste of money, this is nothing more than a blank notebook. I was extremely disappointed, and I would give it no stars if I could. Just rubbish! That's how "authors" make money.

OK, but could be better.

Just bought this book, and it is OK but not what I thought it would be. It is really too small to use for any serious wardrobe work, the 'envelope' in the back is much too small for receipts/clippings of outfits/etc., and the structure is a bit too inflexible for real wardrobe planning/changing. I bought it to replace the 3-ring binder that I use for my wardrobe, but it just can't do that much. Guess I'll keep the binder, and use this for little things related to wardrobe & clothing.

Sometimes it's difficult to decide what gift a woman would like. Well I've just recieved the most perfect gift from a friend of mine. It's a book called, "The Fashion Journal: Wardrobe and Shopping Organizer." This book is perfect for all of those fashion conscious women out there. Not only does this book give examples of types of fashions through the years, but it leaves room for you to write your own thoughts and ideas about the past and latest fashions. Many find it hard to plan an outfit for special occasions. The Fashion Journal allows room for you to explore all options. The checklists make it easy to keep track of what you have and what you need.I admire the originality and creativity that make this book as wonderful as it is. I would definately suggest this book to all women out there that like to stay organized while creating the perfect wardrobe.

Waste of money

I don't think anyone needs a fashion journal. I bought this book, expecting more, but it was a waste of my (...) dollars. I really think that this is one of those books that just wants to take advantage of people's money.

Now if you're one of those people that's disorganized then you might need this, but I think that people can live without this book. Besides there are many books out there about organization, why would anyone want to buy this book, not only that but its also a waste of trees.

DO NOT waste your time and money on this booklet. First of all, it's just that: a booklet, and the information given seems to have been written by an elementary school student. Bad, bad, bad!!

A disappointment

I am disappointed in the purchase of this item. This supposed book is actually a booklet. It doesn't have much meat in it. This type of booklet needs to list websites that are appropriate to the subject and to provide those websites addresses within the contents of the book. There are only a few websites given.

This book is a great resource to use to get into mystery shopping. It gives you exactly the information you need to start your own home based mystery shopping business. I used this book as a manual to give me the information that I needed to get started. I followed the directions and have already started getting a lot of job offers. It is concise and informative. It doesn't just give you the information on mystery shopping, it tells you about merchandising and how to get started in it. It also explains in detail how to avoid problems. I haven't found this information in any other book. I highly recommend this book.

This book is a shameless attempt at making money. This book is shallow and says nothing. A total waste of time and money.

Major pieces of information missing, not very complete.

After reading Poynter's book, I found that most of what I was looking for in a mystery shopping book was not there. I suggest that people looking for a really great book on mystery shopping check out "Everything you need to know about Mystery Shopping". It's well worth it.

We don't all just go along to pay the bills! I bought this book in hopes of getting some good advice re: bespoke suits, tailored shirts and regimental ties; maps and military and nautical memorabilia; sporting goods and events; and other masculine items for which London is noted, but was greatly disappointed to find nothing here that couldn't be gleaned from a good read of London's Yellow Pages, which must certainly be a better read given the author's aggravatingly trite tone. Add to that her irrepressibly silly opinions, with which she is all too generous, and within an hour of arrival this one was repacked for return.

Perfect for the Shopping Addict

I bought and used this book on a recent trip to London, and I can recommend it to people who love to shop and who will spending more than just a few days in London. The book covers the entire spectrum of shopping, from street markets to high-end designers. Much of the book is just Suzy's opinion, but I guess any book of this nature would have to be, in large part, the opinion of the author. But try to get past her likes and dislikes and read the facts presented. I was especially happy with the insights presented on British drugstores and the great products they carry. Without this book, I would have missed some of the best stuff I found in London, the house lines of the drugstores! On the negative side, I felt that her hotel recommendations were a little unrealistic for the average traveler. I also didn't quite understand her advice for using the public transportation system. Still, a very useful little book.

This book was really helpful, saved me a lot of $ and enabled me to buy quality furniture at good rates

I used this book and the 1999 version of "Shopping for Furniture" by the same author when I moved in 2004. I had absoultely no knowledge about furniture, live in NYC where prices are high and had limited financial resources. This was the first time in my life that I was going to buy a large quantity of furniture at one time. I had heard about the North Carolina furniture outlets, but with a small child I did not have the ability to go there. Having faith in the merchandising power of the internet, I bought this book and "Shopping for Furniture" and proceeded to search. Through e-mails, and armed with the knowledge and terminology set forth in Mr. Lewin's books, I was able to find out a lot in regard to the quality and pricing for many pieces. I had been told by one manufacturer that I was "very educated" regarding the construction of furniture.
Through the use of both books I learned what to look for in a quality piece and how to go about finding the furniture I wanted for the best prices. Although I did not use the any of the merchants listed in these books, I did use the information in them as a springboard for finding other merchants.
I did look for furniture makers that Mr. Lewin recommended, searching their lines on the internet, finding out where they sold in my area, and going to these stores to check them out in person. Thanks to Mr. Lewin, I was able to rule out a lot of pieces that looked good but actually were quite poor in quality. For example, each time I opened a drawer on a piece and I noticed that it did not contain dove-tailed joints, I immediately closed the drawer and walked away, knowing that it was an inferior piece of furniture and that it would not last.
For my bedroom furniture I decided I wanted Louis Phillipe furniture manufactured by Pennsylvania House (which no longer makes furniture in the USA), a company on the same level as Ethan Allen which waas not really affordable for me). Through the internet I found a merchant whose prices were excellent. Since the merchant was not listed in Mr. Lewin's book, I e-mailed him and he immediately responded that the furniture was good quality, the price was excellent and the seller was reputable. I was able to furnish my bedroom for approx. $5,500 when using local merchants would have cost me well over $10,000 for the same furniture.
My dining room and entertainment unit I got for $2800 fully delivered when locally I would have had to pay $3500 for the same pieces (on sale for Memorial Day)plus local tax (which is high here in NY) and delivery. I figure that buying locally would have cost over $4200 for the same pieces.
Thanks to these books I was able to get alot of "bang for my buck" insofar as furnishing my house was concerned. Not only did I get info from the books but I also was able to receive advice and info from Mr. Lewin who was happy to hear from me and most gracious with his quick responses.
One of my colleagues is in the process of furnishing a new home and I have highly recommended that she buy these books, since she wants to get good quality furniture for as little expenditure as possible. I really look foward to seeing what she comes up with.

Interesting that a book advertised to help you navigate the internet and avoid rip offs is the biggest rip off itself. All of the links are to search engines or are outdated and the authors email is no longer valid. All the other info you can find yourself. Save your money and dont buy this book!!
