I like this book because it has crafts and recipes anyone can do. Instructions are given for harvesting your lavender and if you only have one lavender plant, there is a project for a little lavender heart wreath that could be done without alot of lavender. The photos and explanations are clear. There is a nice section about aromatherapy. There is some information about how to grow lavender, but that is not this book's strength. This book would be a lovely gift for a lavender loving friend.

An Outstanding Sourcebook

Review Date: 2005-04-16
This lucid and concise volume presents the full spectrum of legal and practice issues in conducting architectural practice--from inception to completion of projects. Salient topics include contracts, legal liability and insurance, forms of business association, roles and responsibilities of building industry players, codes and standards, and dispute resolution strategies.

The authors deftly balance focused analytical and broad conceptual understandings with an engaging writing style. They crystallize a great deal of sophisticated practice information for real-world application.

Seasoned practitioners as well as young professionals will appreciate the underlying thesis: Knowledge of law and practice empowers architects with "security and certainty." Law and Practice for Architects provides that critical knowledge.

The authors vary the presentation of material--straight text with accompanying diagrams, question and answer sections, and "Practice Overview" essays. The fascinating Practice Overviews augment each chapter by illuminating a specific practice topic and by stimulating critical thinking, making this book a valuable didactic tool for professional development.

Law and Practice for Architects is an outstanding sourcebook, essential reading for all design professionals. Res ipsa loquitur. --Andrew Pressman, FAIA, Professor and Editor-in-Chief, Architectural Graphic Standards, 11e.

This is a rare and readable blend of experience and practical wisdom on where design meets the law. It is a solid addition to any architect's library and could serve as a strong link in every firms orientation program. It offers the basics on legal issues, but just as importantly provides much-needed perspective. This profession has entered a new and different world- full of worrisome and wonderful opportunities. For those looking to the future, this book will lead the perplexed and strengthen the leader.

A Legacy Greater Than Words comes at a good time, when the anti-immigration hysteria seems to be focused on Mexicans and other Latinos. What if all the people noted in this book had not been allowed to stay, make a life, become citizens, and put themselves in harm's way for this country? I hope that many non-Latinos read the book and come to know the legacy of Mexican-Americans, my father among them.

Rib-tickling read-aloud for first and second graders

As reading specialist at elementary schools, I search out books which will entice young children to become lifelong book lovers. A read-aloud book, Ben Brooks' Lemonade Parade is one read-aloud which fits the bill. A familiar situation (a not-so-busy lemonade stand), just enough repetition to give the text rhythm, a light-hearted mystery (Just why do all those customers wear the same familiar red sneakers?), and delightful drawings by Bill Slavin have captured the hearts of lots of first and second graders in my corner of the world

Delightful tale of Dad who helps his kids sell lemonade.

A basic plot with three kids selling lemonade on a hot day. Dad spots the kids at work and decides to help out. One of the clever kids is Wynona, a sly character with mother wit. The many disguises Dad wears appeal to the kid in adults and recreate the emotions most of us have felt on the hot summer day someone decided to run a lemonade stand. The emphasis on Dad's involvement is a bonus. One Dad I know actually played out the book when his own kids were flogging their liquid cooler. Slavin's illustrations are marvelous. Brooks has gone on to do sketch comedy (Joe's Convenience) in a big way. He wrote this when he was 19 and had stopped out of college

This book should be read by adults as well as children. If you are a individual starting your own business for the first time and without any knowledge of how to manage a business then the lemonade stand is where you should start. chapters 10, 11 and 12 were very helpful for me. A well written book Mr Modu.

A must for those who want entrepreneurial children

I found Emmanuel Modu's book to be a necessity for all parents. Not just because it helps them encourage their kids into the business world, but also because it provides a guidline on how to help children become independent thinkers and happy individuals. Mr. Modu pinpoints many mistakes paretns [unintentionally]make while trying to teach their kids about the ways of life. After reading "The Lemonade Stand", parents will be able to overcome such mistakes and help groom their offspring into freethinking and dyamic people. If you take evertying written in this book to heart, you may be raising the next Rockeffellar or Larry Ellison ;)

In "Lethal Laws," author Alix Fano does an excellent job presenting the scientific argument against animal testing and how it affects us and the environment. It is an eye-opener filled with facts. This book is thoroughly footnoted, and often times let vivisectors contradict themselves. This is one of those books showing the opposition biting their own tongues. "Lethal Laws" can be a reference guide which you can refer to from time to time. Most notably, it will give you insight into the science, controversies, and politics relating to animal testing. It is a great idea to read the book several times because of the need to absorb all of the information. I highly recommend this book for activists and non-activists alike. This book will be another "Silent Spring."

A great well-documented reference guide.

I didn't know what to expect when I bought this book but I was pleasantly surprised! It offers so much great advice for dealing with a variety of life's situations. The advice is simple & easy to read. There are so many topics covered, I liked the section on personal finance the most. Although the parts dealing with family situations are very useful, direct and to the point, like tracing a family tree, dealing with problem neighbors, etc...I recommend this book. It a good home reference book.

What an amazing achievement. Antoniak takes life's most problematic tasks and turns them into easily followed step by step processes. From the monumental -- buying a home -- to the mundane -- shopping for a used car -- Lifemaps offers solutions. Buy this book and you won't need to fill up your shelves with lots of other how-to books. Since I bought it I've used it dozens of times...and I've bought copies for all my kids too.

As someone who got more mothering from the live-in housekeeper than from my own mother, I found this book to be affirming and interesting. Most of the book is made up of personal memoirs, some based on interviews with both the caregiver and the now-grown child. There are also brief chapters discussing some of the issues raised, such as the difference in race or class between the caregiver and child. The only disappointment was the lack of a bibliography for further reading.

If you are a nanny, or if you work with children in a private home in any capacity, or if you ever had a nanny, this book will touch your heart. It is so encouraging to know that the love nannies have given to their charges has a lifelong impact on them. Thank you Barbara Blouin for a book that affirms the special relationship between a nanny and the children she cares for.

This is a valuable set of case studies on development projects that actually benefit the grassroots. Although set in Bolivia, many of the lessons apply to other parts of the developing world. The book is well written and would be a great text for a course in development studies.

The intimate travel details and encounters with prospective project developers in Bolivia are revealed in this book. You read about the many projects that the IAF has sponsored, successful at times and not, it is great to know that these projects have been throughly researched by IAF employees.

It makes you feel good to see U.S. dollars go into super positive grassroots projects.

The projects included in this book are diverse and very intriguing. Highly recommended!
