Finally a textbook that doesn't read like a textbook! My son is breezing through this book when we have struggled with nearly every other history text. Not your typical dry textbook, it is engaging and well written, with beautiful pictures and artwork throughout.

It weaves in the Catholic Faith effortlessly, rather than some other books which so obviously are trying to be "Catholic".

A close to a "living book" as you can get in a text!

We are homeschoolers who have gone through all four books of Story of the World (SOTW). We are on our second go-round in the four year history cycle. After using Mystery of History for ancients (Protestant) and History Odyssey (secular) with additions for Middle Ages, I am happy to settle on From Sea to Shining Sea for next year. Unlike (SOTW), the focus is on American history. The chapters end with a summary, review questions, activities and a section called "American Larder" which talks about what people were eating at the time covered in each chapter.

This is a great Catholic text- well-balanced, nice pictures, well written. I will be using it next year with my 7th and 4th graders.

Amazon had the best price I've seen anywhere on the web-- $44.

This book just contains patterns for accessories, but they all look good. They include bags, socks, gloves, hats, belts, necklaces, and flowers. The yarns are all Rowan yarns, which can be easily substitued with 8 ply and 4 ply yarns (American terms fingering and sport weight). A small number of items use bulky yarn.

Tom Clancy Meets Robert A. Heinlein

Review Date: 2001-08-21
This techno-thriller seems to create its own, unique genre. As the book's cover indicates, it is a spy-versus-spy science fiction story set in the near-past, and it puts a brand-new spin on Top Secret government operations.

The level of detail and fast-paced action is like early Tom Clancy at his best. The "micro events" of the spy saga, embryonic science and government cover-up unfold against the "macro events" of near-history. We get to know and understand the motives of the two principal characters--Katrina Fontanova, who won her spy spurs by taking risks during the Russian "putsch"; and Yuri Sverdlov, the failed U.S. Seal ... FBI counter-intelligence agent whose passion for justice overrides political conformity.

When the two strong-willed individuals collide in a scramble for the ultimate disruptive technology--a technology of alien origin--the book accelerates into hyperdrive, and you won't be able to put it down.

The author's web site indicates that "The Ganymede Project" is the first book in a trilogy.

I can't wait for the next installment!

Espionage, Intrigue, Aliens

This novel brings together a number of action/thriller concepts: international conflict, spy games, government conspiracies, and alien technology. Morrison introduces a large cast of characters who slowly become entangled in the same web. They seem to be unrelated, but become united through a certain knowledge (which is at the center of the novel). To the degree that sides can be pitted against one another, they are those protecting this knowledge and those who have become exposed to it. Morrison's main statement is about information. Information is the novel's main commodity, and every character is out to gather it or protect it. It puts characters in danger and protects them. Thorough reading aside, "The Ganymede Project" is engaging and suspensful, and definetly worth reading for anyone who enjoys the mystery/action genre.

For the scientifically challenged like me, you cannot beat this little book for learning about botany. Did I say "botany"? I mean gardening, i.e., applied botany. Amato writes like a breeze, teaching the reader everything he or she needs to know to make plants grow. The text is simple and concise, knowledge a plenty. No botanical bookstore should be without this gem. Teachers, here's your companion text for any class garden!!!!

I enjoyed this book very much. It has a lot of facts and is very intertaining too. I learned a lot, like Snapdragon are from the Mediterranean, which I did not know. If you want to try experiments and learn a lot about science in the garden, buy this book.

I bought this as a Christmas present for a map-loving church student of mine. I guess that maybe I didn't pay close enough attention to the style of the book when I ordered it, because when it arrived, I was dismayed to find that it wasn't exclusive to map reading and functioned more as a text book from school. Among topics it covers are orienteering and reading weather and oceanography maps.

However, my intended recipiant was more than thrilled to receive the book. He said that he's studying the same stuff at school and he loves it. He could hardly put it down in order to go through the church service. It was engaging and insightful, he said, and that's saying a lot coming from a kid who's ADD and hates to read. I recommend this product.

I use this book for speech-language therapy. The drawings, maps, and graphs are suitable for the DBQ ("document-based questions") section of the NYS 8th grade Social Studies test, and the activities address a variety of language skills, such as critical thinking and inference, comparing and contrasting, vocabulary in context, etc. My 8th graders loved it - they said it helped them be more critical when they considered the documents on the test, and that they wished we had started doing the exercises earlier in the year. We actually did do similar items all year long, but because these activities are specifically geared to geography, they truly believed that I was helping them to learn social studies, and never even realized that their language goals were being addressed. My mother taught for 35 years and passed this book to me when she retired. My advice? Get this book - it'll seem like you never run out of activities.

Section 11 Statistical Information on World Population and Production
Appendix Geography Enrichment Activities (Experiments & Crafts)

I LOVE this book!! It has reduced the amount of time I need to spend looking for or creating worksheets to reinforce ideas.

Though the publishing date is 1988, and the statistical data is outdated, with these wonderful worksheets, your child receives an abundance of opportunities to learn how to read and decipher the information. With the practical skills learned from doing these activities, the student will be able to go to an updated map or statistical chart and have a complete understanding of how to draw upon the information displayed.

The book is spiral-bound for ease of making copies. The teacher's answers are on opposing pages. Another plus is that it covers multiple grade levels. 4th thru 8th.

I HIGHLY recommend this as an integral resource for any homeschool geography curriculum!

I used this book with a 7th grade class of "reluctant learners" and was completely delighted by their enthusiasm. All of the projects we tried (about 3/4 of those offered) were successful. As I was operating on a low budget, I appreciated being able to use the easily found materials and ingredients listed in the procedures. The Faux Marble project results were especially astounding. Get this book and enjoy!

The book gets the job done and got a job for me

Great book. I think that anybody looking for a team leadership position in any industry will absolutely benefit from reading this book. The book really made me think on how I would answer those questions myself and I incorporated on my answers some key points that I got from the book. The general advice on job interviewing is very good too. Even though I have read several books in job searching, I found advice not strictly related to project management that I have not seen elsewhere and I found very useful. One think I liked about the book was that it goes straight to the point and covers in a few pages what other books might cover in chapters.

I have a job thanks to this book.

I have a job thanks to this book.
As a recently divorced woman with two kids I had to go back to the job force and was really rusty in the whole job finding process and was getting no where fast. After coming back from my third job interview with no prospects of a call back I started looking for some help and decided to give this book a try. I was skeptical that they could actually have the answers for me but the book quickly tells you how you can apply the answers to your own situation. In my first interview after I read the book, I tried one of the answers and seeing that I was getting smiles and nodding at the other side of the table I used their suggestions for two more questions and lo and behold I was offered the job the next day!.
