The text is a wonderful reference for pictures of covered conditions, the only side note being a lack of good coverage for ethnic skin (there is a another book covering just that) and the photographs are in most cases showing advanced or extreme examples. Overall, a great book to have on hand in primary care.

If you are a medical student doing a derm rotation or plan on entering a primary care residency, this book is THE book to own. I wouldn't have minded having the online edition, but with not knowing when the new edition would come out (and subsequently when the online subscription would run out), it didn't seem to be worth the money.

I have owned or used the various editions of Habif's Clinical Dermatology for over ten years in our general internal medicine practice and return to it again and again. I have also used a variety of other Dermatology books brought in by staff - typically the $60 - $80 range books. They are typically o.k. but nothing stands up to Habif and I recommending spending the extra $ for it (in the $125 range). The pictures are big, clear and of typical presentations, the layout logical, the review of basics up front helpful and thoughtfully presented. You will find that this is the one you reach for when you need help.

Best book I have read on APBT in a long time

Review Date: 2006-06-02
This is the best book I have read on APBT in a long time.
My earliest memory of reading about pitbulls was in a elementary school library and I was reading a book of dog breeds. As I was flipping through the pages of different breeds I came across a picture of a white pitbull tied the front of a car, the picture if I remember correectly was dated in the 1920's. Under the picture was a caption that read "An old time colby dog before a match". I was hooked as I read the history of the American Pitbull Terrier and the man named J.P. Colby that imported these great animals into the states.
The ONLY thing missing from this book is that picture that I remember so well.
Whether you are for or against the breed and it's rich history this book is still a great read.

This book has many great pictures of famous pit bulls from the early part of the last century. I enjoyed reading this book for some of the historical aspects of the breed, but felt that the focus on the breed was too narrow. I know that the book is about J.P. Colby and the dogs that he produced. But I would have liked the book to have had some more input about other bloodlines and how the Colby dogs compared to some of the other famous dogs from the other great breeders of that period and the present. A decent read for the pit bull enthusiast, but the book is more factual than enjoyable in the literal sense.

This is a fascinating book, although I would prefer if dog fighting had never happened at all. But for someone who is interested in Pit Bulls, they definately ought to read this book (but first read Diane Jessup's The Working Pit Bull!). It will give them insight on why the Pit Bull acts the way he does, and for the most part well-bred Pit Bulls of today haven't changed much from the dogs in the oldest photos! Pit Bulls are truly the greatest dog ever, but they do take a higher degree of responsibility. If you are considering a Pit Bull, go to PBRC.com (Pit Bull Rescue Central) and adopt!! I urge you not to buy from a breeder, a rescued is always the best (my three Pit Bulls are all rescues, one from PBRC)! I DO NOT SUPPORT FIGHTING IN ANY WAY!!

Great book. Well worth the money. Has saved me from buying new decor and furniture and storage without thinking through what I really need. Gets to the heart, your heart, of what you need out of your house and guides you there. I am half way through the book and already am more comfortable in my house with the changes I have made. I have plans for the house and am looking forward to them. Don't hesitate ordering this. This is not a 'decorate your house' book, but is so... much more. Very well written and hands-on. Loving it!

This is the book I have been looking for. I have been trying to make my house work better for my family and me for years and it was almost there, but something was missing. The exercises and suggestions in this book were exactly what was needed to transform my house into my emotional home.

This book is not about "decorating". It's about reassessing your needs and making your house work better to fulfill them. In the process you certainly end up with a more beautiful, nurturing environment, but you also end up with much more.

I can't recommend it highly enough.

I am a designer, and I loved this book. It gets to the heart of what a home should be- even for pets and children. No nonsense writing, straight to the point, sage and timeless advise for making your home or apartment into your own castle without major renovations. I would change the title, though-since the word "emotional" can have negative connotations for this most positive book.

A reviewer expressed disappointment in this book's lack of new content, and commented that the author had discussed something about creating an "altar." The altar reference did actually belong to another book (see page 79) called Creating a Charmed Life by Victoria Moran. The Emotional House is a very different book in idea and style. Hope this helped clarify.

Well, here we go again. The easy task of "demonizing Crowley". Its funny how so many like to comment on Crowley and the "bad" karma he incurred, yet how many of those who comment knew him? How many who disparage his methods actually practiced them? Only one that has seriously studied Crowley for years can "cast the first stone". All the rest are speculators who project their subconscious fears onto someone they did not know. Each person blazes their own path and if I listened to people such as the one who wrote the "one star" review then I would still be a Catholic zombie. Love is the Law Love under Will. Do What Thou Wilt Shall be the whole of the LAW! HA, HA, HA!

I learned more about the Enochian system of magick in 5 hours of reading than I had in weeks of checking out other sources. This is an explanation of Crowley's instructional piece on Enochia, with instructions on colouring the tablets and incorperating enochian elements into sex magick. My only complaint is that it is too brief. Read it alongside The Tarot of Ceremonial Magick, The Vision & The Voice and you'll have a veryt thorough understanding of this powerful and REAL system.

The title initially put me off as I thought that it was probably a strange little side adventure that had little to do with the Enochian system. BOY WAS I WRONG! This is a WONDERFUL book about the enochian system complete with color plates of the spirit tables!

Even if you have other books on enochian, you should still have this text! It is easy enough to understand for the first-timer yet packed with so much information that even the advanced practitioner will find use in it!

I was so enthralled by this that last night I read about 80 pages in one sitting. This has a few easy rituals to do and one with a partner. I was amazed at how easy a couple rituals were as described in this book. Also included are lovely illustrations. Aleister Crowley's rituals are controversial and simple. This blows away trendier witches and warlocks' rituals in mass market books due to the simplicity of them. No hard to find, specialized items. Pure black magic? Yes; blasphemous and easy!

He is very good at taking the everyday and making it uncommon.

Sometimes God Can Be Found In Places We Least Expect
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2005-10-05
GRACE IS EVERYWHERE is a collection of short essays by Trappist monk James Stephen Behrens. Trappists are Catholic monks who follow the Rule of St. Benedict living most of their religious lives in one place, believing that while the mystery of God is great, very often God can be found in the simplest of places and situations. Life has a certain pattern and a regular schedule of work and prayer is the stuff of Trappist life. Behrens, who worked in parish ministry prior to joining the order, takes basic daily events of life, many rather routine, and shows ways that God can be found in a variety of situations. The essays contain insights Behrens gained from his life in parish ministry as well as his training in the traditions of the Trappists. The essays and stories are meant to help the reader find God at work in the daily events that we all experience. An added bonus of the book would be the personal touches found in Behrens' writings. Throughout the reflections he shares bits and pieces of himself, his life, musings on family and friends and the like which helps readers see that while Behrens may live a life that is cloistered, his joys and struggles, successes and failures are not unlike those of so many others and we find not so much a spiritual guru as much as a companion.

Grace Is On Every Page

James Stephen Behrens writes with disarming simplicity and unerring poise. He sees the wonder of life in the tiniest detail; like all true artists, nothing is lost on him. And his gift is to share that with his readers in these short, sweet meditations about life in and around his monastery in Georgia. The people he meets, the wonder he encounters, the miracles he enjoys -- all are beautifully filtered through his pen.

Grace is everywhere, and so is God, and we have Behrens to thank for reminding us of that, again and again.

On my many retreats to Monastery of the Holy Spirit, I've received God's gift of grace through the community of brothers. Fr. Behren's "Grace is Everywhere" allows us to look into the cloister life, and bring monastic grace all the way home.

For another title on monastic spirituality, a book written specifically for parents and families, look at "The Family Cloister: Benedictine Wisdom for the Home", by David Robinson (New York: Crossroad, May 2000).

Groovy is different. Get this book and learn

Review Date: 2008-07-20
I feel like Groovy is like a programming language "Eintopf", it aggregates some best characteristics of a variety of programming languages. No matter which programming style you prefer - procedural, functional, object-oriented, meta-programming, static typed, dynamic typed... - Groovy has much to offer. The most beautiful thing is, you can easily combine different programming styles in one language and write most concise and self-explanatory code to solve your problem. With Groovy, you suddenly have so much mind-freedom, you have the choice of expressing your algorithms as close to the nature of the problems as possible.

There are languages having very concise syntax but the code is not easy for human to read. There are languages and APIs require more strikings on keyboard than thinking. Groovy is different. You have all kinds of syntax sugar while the code still tells a literal story in your problem domain.

The only fields I think Groovy might not be suitable are the machine-level infrastructures and image/audio/video processing. C and assembly languages are not replaceable by Groovy. In most other application fields, using Groovy can dramatically boost programmers' productivity and reduce programming errors.

I started off by simply renaming all .java files in my test packages to .groovy files. Worked. Then tried out it's closures and curry calls. For me there are a lot more to explore. Haskel fans will like Groovy. Smalltalk fans will like Groovy. Python fans will like Groovy. Lisp fans maybe too. Java folks? I for one, have already been conquered. If you program at all, by all means do yourself a favour and have a look at Groovy.

Groovy in Action is an excellent book on Groovy and programming. Get this book and get the insight, you'll be glad you do.

For those of you who haven't heard of Groovy, Groovy is a scripting language that is built on top of Java. Since it is written on top of Java, a Java developer can pick up pick Groovy in a snap.

I first heard about Groovy In Action (also known as GINA) during a Groovy presentation almost a year ago, the presenter was referring to Groovy In Action as one of the best references out at the time, After reading GINA, I was not disappointed. The roadmap given at the beginning of the book is a great guide to see how the book is organized out. As an added bonus, the book includes some great reference information at the end of the book. It contains Groovy Language information, a GDK API quick reference, and several great cheat sheets for items such as closures, lists, etc.

The book is full of great examples that you can use (some of the examples illustrate some of the finer points of the language).

In fact someone recently asked about where to find a complete specification of the Groovy Language. Guillaume Laforge, Groovy Program Manager and co-author of Groovy In Action, responded that the most current information can be found in Groovy In Action (source user@groovy.codehaus.org mailing list 3/16/2008).

Groovy in Action is one of the Groovy books that is a must have for anyone looking to get into Groovy Development.

While getting a little long in the tooth (GINA was released pre-Groovy 1.0, Groovy is now above 1.5), the material presented in the book is still very relevant and helpful. The biggest issue is that some of the newer (and cooler!) features, such as ExpandoMetaClass, of the language are not covered.

That being said, this is still a great introduction to the a language that will likely become an important player in Java shops as developers migrate existing designs to take advantage of the power the dynamic programming provides. The authors do a great job of explaining the concepts and syntax of the language, making it easy to quickly begin writing code of your own.

While books such as Groovy Recipes: Greasing the Wheels of Java are now available that cover the newest features in Groovy, a perusal of GINA can help to flatten the learning curve.

Fabulous book, except for the last chapter...

This book is fantastic. Very well done, easy read. It was the first tech book that I read cover-to-cover -without getting bored- in a long time. The author does a good job of explaining how Groovy works under the covers and does a great job of detailing how to make effective use of it.

The language itself is also impressive and I hope Groovy gets the attention it deserves. I hope all Java developers read this to see what they're missing in Java-land. :-)

Hindsight is 20/20, I'm sure the authors are sorry they included the last chapter on Grails as they did. But I don't fault them, as I'm sure the publisher was not uninvolved in that decision... ;-)

I'm giving it 5 stars anyway. Good work!

I read this story to introduce the theme of Hanukkah to my grade 2 and 3 students today, and I don't think I've ever seen them so enthralled by a book before. They absolutely loved it, and had a ball predicting ways in which *they* might outwit the Hanukkah goblins if they were in Hershel's shoes. Their ideas were so creative that I asked them to do an impromptu assignment in which they write their own ideas down in book form, with decorative pictures and all. This was one time I didn't hear groans at the thought of (horrors!) writing!

Great story, great pictures... great job!

Many of today's men are shy and scared to death to approach today's women. Therefore you as a independant, assertive woman must take the upperhand and go for the gusto.

Working with kids is great...yet if you don't keep them occupied at all times my job description would be zoo keeper, not Elementary Art Teacher! At first, Sarah Perry's book "If..." served as a functional time filler. I knew the kids would get a kick out of the wonderful images! I introduce the book and the kids are still a bit restless and and not totally convinced that the art teacher is reading a book. Isn't that the librarians job, they think as they roll their eyes. I open to the first page and read,"If cats can fly..." their heads turn and their rolling eyes become transfixed on Perry's beautiful illustrations. I turn the page and by now the audience is silently screaming for more!!! By this time the students' teacher has come to pick the kids up from the art room, but instead of lining up the class, she has pulled up a seat to listen in on the fun! Nine times out of ten, when I am finished sharing the book, the students ask me to read it again. The kids walk out of the classroom with a smile on their face and their imaginations zooming!!! Parents stop me in the hallways to speak about the delight their child experienced when I was reading the book! I give the credit to Sarah Perry! Thank you Sarah...this functional time filler has become an imagination can opener!!!

This book is so beautifully illustrated and the ideas it presents are really fun. We got it as a baby shower gift and it immediately became a favorite of my husband and mine. Now my 2-year old loves to pour over the illustrations and giggles at the silly ideas. It's a book that I know she will keep into her adulthood.

I have this book. I LOVE it. Sarah was a neighbor and kindred spirit who lived near me in Southern California. She gave me a signed copy as a going away gift when we moved last July. It is one of my treasures. From the adult point of view as well as the view of a professional artist, I found it totally delightful. Each picture deserves a dedicated block of focused attention. There is such detail and well thought out, enlightened imagery in each and presentation. Children are captivated and entertained for hours by this book as well. "IF" is a wonderful choice for any age. For those of you who own a copy of Shel Silverstein's "The Giving Tree", or Margery Williams' "The Velveteen Rabbit", and would like something equally inspiring, this book should be very high on a recommended list of "must-haves". Smart, sassy, challenging on many levels.

Insider's Guide to the World of Pharmaceutical Sales, Eighth Edition

This book had every bit of information that I needed to get interviews, how to perform on interviews and what to bring with me. I used it to get a different type of sales position but I went to each interview well equipped and was able to score so many job offers that in the end, I got to pick and choose! There are key factors in here that will truly win you the next interview or the job offer. I am so thankful for this book!

This book is a fantastic primer for "how-to-get-a-job" in pharmaceutical sales. It is a quick read, but the information is complete and if you actually follow-through with all of the tactics that the author suggests, you have a good chance of at least getting one interview. After that it will be up to you to sell yourself and demonstrate that you actually know what you're talking about. But again, if you do what the author advises you to do, you should be able to get the business.
