Dont be mislead. This book measures approximately 3"x3" and looks and reads like a kids book. It might have a total of 1500 words in all 70 pages of it.

On the good side, there are some decent pictures in there, but nothing spectacular.

HIll's history is one of those success histories that keeps on marvelling us. The guy would have virtually no chance against Ayrton Senna in Williams-Renault, back in 1994. But Senna died, and Hill, a driver who had never achieved absolutely nothing in the lesser formulas, suddenly became William's Number One.

And such a Number One he became. Learning fast, he almost secured te World Tittle already in 1994, had not MIchael Schumacher played dirty in the Australian Grand Prix. (do you need any other proof that the machine is much more important than the driver in modern Formula One? Hill was in his second season, had never showed any signs of above-average skill, and was almost the World Champion - courtesy of Williams-Renault, not his skills)

In the following years, Hill became the main contender against Germany's robot Michael Schumacher, the most victorious driver ever in F-1. And won his Championship in 1996.

This book gives a lesson: you can learn with the passing of time, it's never late to believe you can be succesfull in something you desire a lot (ok, I admit that being the son of Graham Hill would help you a lot...)

For over $25.00 dollars you too can own a book no bigger than a Golden Book of children's tales. By adding the 'Nascar' title to your product you too can overcharge anyone because what trailer is complete without its own Nascar memorial?

A Mason's review

Review Date: 2008-01-01
I am a 32 degree American Master Mason. I was given this book for Christmas by my wife who bought it a local bookstore. Yes, some "secrets" are revealed, but not being a mason from England, I can't say this would help cowens or like interested people. It tends to push the gnostic esoteric thought subscribed by some masons but is not mainline. It does a fair job explaining the Mormon and Catholic issues but be warned, this is not a definative text. Almost all of the pictures and illustrations have little or no connection to the text. Illustrations were not a help in explaining some of our rituals. Overall, a banal book worth reading but having been tried, it shall stay on my shelf to be tried again with a brother from England who will be joining our lodge. Although this book about me came from a reputable publisher, it is chockablock with errors and misinformation. I had no idea of its existence until someone handed me a copy. It isn't hostile--just wrong in many issues of fact. I recommend instead the book by Ross R. Olney, which is far more accurate. My own autobiography, on offer by Sterling Lord of Sterling Lord Literistic of NY, awaits a publisher.

Much of this book is a rehash of what you can get from standard documentation. Some of the author's ideas and suggestions are not very practical. Really just a minor survey of the basic mechanics with little or no insight into the subject at hand

I develop Windows device drivers professionally, and I was impressed with this book at a glance. However, several blatant errors in the book cost me more hours than the book saved in the first place. Combined with a crucial appendix that is referenced, but simply not between the covers, this book needs editing more than publishing. I recommend waiting for a second, corrected edition before investing.

Not Up to Par

As the United States' and Lotus' most recent Formula One champion, Mario Andretti has become an idol to the Lotus faithful. There is no lack of books detailing the extensive racing career of our Mario, however, these numerous publications are generally expansive and cover the dirt tracks, Champ cars, Stock cars and Sports cars as well as his Formula One success. Mario Andretti Photo Album does the same but is clearly focuses on his Grand Prix career. As such, there is a majority of coverage dedicated to his time with Lotus.

Mario Andretti Photo Album is, as its name suggests, a photo album. The text is limited to a three-page history of Mario's racing exploits and subheadings with each photo. They do a decent job in giving a basic knowledge of his career, but do not give the detailed information that enthusiasts crave. Likewise too much information is repeated from page to page. But the book is not about words. It is a photo album. In that department there is disappointment as well. All of the photos are black and white. The paper they are printed on is poor quality for photo reproduction. There are few photos that details of the cars can be seen. Drama is limited to some facial expressions and some descriptions in the text.

Still, the book does accomplish something worthwhile. It separates Mario's Grand Prix career from the rest of his extensive record. In doing so it covers a great deal of Lotus history. It is too bad the quality of the photos is not up to par.

This book is rather disappointing. Nygaard's photographs are lackluster and the reproductions are worse than you would find in your daily newspaper. As only the second American to be crowned World Driving Champion, Mario deserves better.

Beware..

AS happens with CART, NASCAR is sometimes an amateur organizati9on, making unbelivable blunders. Compared to the FORMULA ONE environment, they are amateurs, really. Concerning security, the difference is abysmal.

Too Much Hype

Spent too much time reading an over hyped bio of a sports figure. The cause of death was too sensationalized. Book was bland. Frank Moriarty did not cover the issue of the total lack of safety by NASCAR. They are to blame for unsafe cars, races, and procedures.

In short I wasted money to buy, wasted time to read, and wound up throwing the book out

After reading this book (and surviving 29 years in the trucking industry) I am greatly inclined to agree with Mr. Pendergast's points of view. Too much is wasted on trying to fit in with a lifestyle that needs to change, not "be adjusted" to. Sweatshops on Wheels was the definitive book on the current "race to the bottom" of the trucking industry. Want poor wages (when you add up your TOTAL time put in) and NO life ? No real health benefeits or pension (if your non-union) ? Then by all means come join us in the trucking industry and completely throw your life away. Everyone TALKS about doing something to help the driver, but as usual nothing is ever done. Truck drivers are STILL the ONLY labor group in the United States NOT covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act. And this book still does'nt address that..
