When I was growing up, Mario Andretti was one of my heroes. When you put Jim Clark and Mario Andretti on the same racetrack, I was in heaven. This book is the ideal coffee-table book about the greatest race car driver of the 20th century but you may want to put your copy in a cabinet like I do (so that it doesn't get damaged). The readers of "Racer" Magazine voted Mario the best. The photography in this book is fantastic, even the older black and whites are clear. If you like racing especially the "good-old-days", then you will love this book.

This gem of a book will amuse children and have the adult reading it to them in stitches. While you may have thought every bizarre animal fantasy scenario has already been written, you will here find over two dozen episodes, one more original than the next. This beautifully illustrated book is one you will be thrilled to re-read when your child begs for it for the umpteenth time. I bought a dozen copies and gave them as favors for my child's birthday party--the book was a huge hit.

Wise and Chisholm's book is a must-have for the scores of Canadians who make the pilgrimage down to Florida each year. For all those tired of fast food mega-chains whose inexorable advertising campaigns litter the sides of US interstate highways, this book is for you. Driving to Florida does not mean 2 days of indigestion anymore. There is good cuisine for everybody if you just know where to look.

THE MAN IN BLACK ***** THE INTIMIDATOR
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2006-05-03
Dale Earnhardt was The Man. #3 was The Car. they were the team that made the fear run through their fellow racers. Bump drafting and marking another race car with a tire print was part of Dale's game plan.
This book takes the reader behind the scenes in the early life of Dale and how he became the man behind the wheel on race tracks to earn 7 rimes The NASCAR Championship. His love for the race, his fans and especially his family is threaded throughout the book.
Daytona 2001 was to be the big race to begin a new season. With Dale driving for Richard Childress the famous black Monte Carlo #3 and having two of his own cars driven by Michael Waltrip and his youngest son, Dale Jr. it was an exciting day that was to be celebrated. But the final lap held Dale's fate in it's hands. Blocking the drivers behind him, he was helping his own two cars push to the checkered flag. They made it across the finish line with Michael winning the race.
Dale's final race ended with his entrance not to Victory lane at the trace but one far higher by death which took him to the pearly gates.
Many fans share their stories of dealing with the news of Dale's death as well as fellow drivers, team owners and NASCAR ececutives.
The book is well written with several pictures that are wonderful.
If you are a race fan, you will want to read this and add it to your NASCAR collection.

Buy it now. I have other driving books, some good, some not so... this one, EXCELLENT! Teh technique of driving is what so many people just do not understand, this tells you and then shows you in superb pictures. I recommend this book for beginning drivers as well as experienced racers. This is one of those books that you will learn something no matter who you are, after all, Senna was the greatest ever! If you want to know what Nestorius really said this is for you. Although there are difficulties in the translation of a translation and although Nestorious is sometimes prolix and redundant, one gets the feeling that this is a desperately sincere Christian debating a devious and ambiguous Cyril. The nature of the two natures in Christ is an issue that involves each of us immediately and it simply cannnot be brushed off and swept under the rug of monophysitism masquerading as orthodoxy. Nestorius may not resolve the mystery of the union of the two natures but he is forthright in his discussion.

There were never such devoted sisters!
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2004-06-05
Betty Driver M.B.E. is a British national treasure. For her early years, she was driven by the ultimate stage mother but kept sane by her beloved, devoted younger sister, Freda. Ironically, it was Freda who wanted to sing classical music but their domineering mother was against it. Betty's musical career has some wonderful insights into a time gone by including World War Two and meeting Bob Hope and his writers. Betty Driver is one of my favorite Coronation Street players. I wish this book was more widely distributed. She talks about her heartbreak with her former husband, her love for animals, and the hysterectomy at 33 years old. GOd Bless Betty and her sister Freda who still live together in England. They were never such devoted sisters as they said in the song. Nothing could be truer since she dedicates this book to her. I hope they live for a long, long time.

Seminal Dean Ing

Review Date: 2000-07-25
Let's face it, Dean Ing has invented a whole gendre unto himself. I call it "tech fiction". Very few other authors have the scientific grasp on their subjects that Ing does. I've been reading him since his Bela T-9000 days in Omni magizine, and he just keeps getting better and better.

Big Lifters is not only an incredibly good read (Certainly my most favorite Dean Ing book), it's an *important* read too.

He has some really important things to say about the politics of big-rigs, and the problems they present to society.

The big sign hanging in the main characters house that says "When you share the path with an elephant and EITHER of you stumble... YOU lose!" is so telling.

Ing's vision of the solutions and their effect on the various cabals and cartels make it one of those books that I keep several copies of, and loan out to friends and family.

An extremely entertaining, and very important work. Classic Ing.
