A well crafted and thoughtful book

I actually took classes from Professor Leonard while attending the University of New Mexico. I remember him as a warm and collegial professor who closely observed and cared for those around him. The same man is reflected on the pages of this book, which is filled with vignettes and poems about his experiences as a taxi cab driver. He is a strong writer and a keen observer of humans.

The stories and poems sometimes reflect the portion of Albuquerque that many of us choose to ignore when driving down Central or any of the other major thoroughfares, but the book's underlying theme is optimism. From the prostitute scoring one last fix before heading to rehab who dreams of becoming an accountant to the hopeful country music writer working for a carnival, the characters that inhabit the back of Leonard's cab reflect a very human potential for change. One can tell that some are perhaps lost souls who will never reach their dreams (and perhaps no longer dream). Others we can cheer, and hope that success follows their efforts. Regardless, the poems and stories, which range from humorous to ominously dark, elicited a reaction from me. They made me think and feel, and that is perhaps the greatest compliment I could possibly give any book.

I'm a 20+ year resident of Albuquerque and can recognize the locations Mr. Leonard cites in his book. What I don't recognize are the people, even though they are all around me. This books provides me with a little more understanding of the people and places in Albuquerque that I don't normally see. On top of that, it's a good read!

This is very excellent book. I recommend that you should read it so you can have an idea when the bad saturation comes. The book contains about 100 scenarios. Most scenarios presents with the to-the-point photos. So, you can easily follow the author situations. The book divides into 4 parts. First, nature and weather -related part shows you such as how to get stuck from mud. Second, saturation emergencies demonstrated how to steer out of skid. Third, mechanical emergencies gave an idea such as how to jump-start your car. Last, worst-case driving emergencies shows you the saturation that rarely faces like how to jump from a moving car (except you are a stunt professional). I gave it five stars.

If you want to know how it is that truck drivers can get everywhere they need to be in the amount of time they do (speeding not withstanding) get this book. It has very up to date information, great maps, and excellent details. The best atlas I've ever used!

From the moment I flipped over the first page on the calendar, I was in love. Every day of the year was a car that made me drool. I couldn't believe the luck I had. If you are a car enthusiast, then this is the calendar for you. Forget those clunky month-by-month car calendars, you only get 12 pictures. In this wonderful flip calendar, you get day-by-day dream cars! The only way life could get any better is if you could get the real dream cars one a day. :-)

So Cool!

Anyone who buys this calendar has to love cars. That's a given. OK, so, what's in this calendar? It focuses primarily on a lot of concept and production sports cars, luxury automobiles, and even a few racing models. It features technical highlights of cool automotive innovations currently in use once in a while, too, for those with technical interests.

Each page's big color picture is accompanied by comments or information about the day's car, written by the editors of Car & Driver. Plus, it comes with an online version of the same calendar. What's not to love? Well, this is one of those calendars that feature the cheap 1-page-for-the-weekend deals, rather than allowing Saturday and Sunday to each have their own page. Which is kind of dumb. But, if you keep it at work, like I do, you won't even notice.

My advice would be to buy this calendar if you're just a fan of pretty much all cars and love seeing automotive art.

The best single resource for driving across the state or across the country. Roads the otherguys haven't even heard of, let alone thought about publishing, are well documented in this Atlas. You won't even think twice about leaving the interstates with this handy tool at your side.

Reviewer not responsible for your added enjoyment of the countryside, or relaxed demeanor at destination.

A Gem!
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.

This hard to find book is a Gem! It was published by a small publisher with grants from Eli Lilly and State Farm Insurance...CHADD backed up the effort. There is lots and lots of very useful information.

The chapters include: An Overview of Teen Driving Statistics and Research on Teen Drivers with AD/HD, Behavioral Characteristics and Coexisting Disorders, General Tips for Parenting Teens with Difficult Behaviors, 20 Steps for Parents to promote Safe Driving Behaviors in Teens with AD/HD, Handling Poor Driving Behaviors. The chapter on 20 steps for parents is awesome. Examples of other useful information include: A Driving Observation Form, A Learner's Permit Driving Contract, A Comprehensive Vehicle Safety Checklist, A Driving Skills Checklist, A Driver's License Contract. The book also addresses subjects such as reasonable parent expectations, drug and alcohol use, and characteristics associated with learning disabilities.

The information on medications is outdated. I suspect the medication information is why the book is no longer in print. Every seller who makes this book available is giving you and your ADD/ADHD teen a gift :)

very descriptive account

I think the fact that day by day you can read how Leslie Buswell became more and more aware of the futility of trench warfare....and the war itself.. makes this book even more interesting. There are some very interesting stories about the trenches..one moment they are swapping cigarettes with the Germans or going over to have a chat with them in the 'enemy's' trench and the next moment shooting at each other. Very surreal.

It is very descriptive, so you can imagine yourself there, and feel yourself feeling and seeing the very same things as the author. (There are some drawings also he drew in the book of things he saw around him)

Very interesting
