This book was in the condition that Amazon sold it to me in however I did wait for nearly a month to receive it and had to complain to customer service in order to get the book even shipped. I've always had good experiences with Amazon so I'm hoping this was just a one time thing...

ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS THAT THIS BOOK HAS A LOT OF FACTS, BUT THEY ARE BASED ON RACISM. NEARLY ALL PICTURES IN THIS BOOK HAVE WHITE COPS WITH FULL ARMOR AND RIOT GEAR ON BEATING A BLACK MAN TO THE GROUND WITH THEIR NIGHT STICKS AS SEEN ON PAGE 103. POINTING OUT HOW MANY BLACK CRIMINALS THERE ARE IN THE WORLD IS NOT NECESSARY EITHER. ...

I FOUND THIS BOOK TO HAVE MANY RACIAL REMARKS AGAINST AFRICAN AMERICANS. SOME THINGS YOU JUST KNOW AND DON'T NEED TO BE SAID. THE CONSTANT PPOINTING OUT OF HOW MANY BLACKS ARE CRIMINALS AND HOW MANY BLACKS ARE POLICE OFFICERS IS IRREVELANT IN THE STUDY OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE. CRIMINALS ARE OF ALL RACES AND SO ARE POLICE OFFICERS. I WOULD NOT SUGGEST THIS BOOK TO ANYONE WHO WANTS A CAREER IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE FIELD.

Criminal Justice in America (5th edition) proposes a clear view of the criminal justice system. The book is filled with up to date information including the citation of rulings from the Robert's court in 2006. Cole & Smith greatly sum up topics that can easily have and do have books of their own. Some little things that make a great addition to the book is review questions and answers seen throughout the chapter as well as special little sections in which they talk about specific careers in the criminal justice system. As far as the previous reviewers that claim this book to be racist, they must have only read the first section dealing with "is the criminal justice system racist?"

This book is copyright 1997. There is nothing in this book that has not been superceded. Even the code "samples" (which are few) have nothing to do with current extranet development. Pass this book by. Save your money.

Found to be a great intro to the business and technical aspects of the Extranet and how they may be beneficial to a company's operations.

I have this book for my Terms and Concepts real estate course and I find it to be hard to understand. I need study aids to understand what the definitions mean. There are terms mentioned in beginning chapters that are not defined until later in the book and that is very confusing. IF the book was meant to be cumulative-chapters building on previous chapters, I am not finding that.

Great Book loaded with excellent information.
Only draw back was that 2 pages were missing and one page installed upside down. Would love to get missing pages.

A great book - well organized, thorough, and well-written. Nice that the authors provide a comprehensive outline of key points after each chapter.
HOWEVER...
One star subtracted for failure to error-check the mathematics in the practice questions. The math here is simple; there is no excuse for the publisher not taking a moment to run the numbers through a calculator.

worst examples and explanations book I have used to date
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 7 total.
Review Date: 2006-12-08
This was the one and only book required for my Real Estate Transactions course so I have nothing else to compare it to. Nevertheless, I have used plenty other Examples and Explanations books, and have always been pleased. However, this book is the worst one I have encountered. The style of writing is confusing. It is poorly organized. Quite simply, avoid it at all costs.

As a law student, I have often sought books which are willing to explain difficult material in the clearest terms possible. With most textbooks there is no hope. However, this Real Estate Examples and Explainations book was fantastic. It is written clearly and yet deals with some of the most complex material in real estate law. For persons seeking a grasp of the fundamentals of real estate law and finance, this book is of infinite value. For others seeking a more detailed analysis of complex real estate issues, this is a good starting off point. I would highly recommend this text.

I could picture Mr. Segel and Mr. Shay sitting around a table one evening (alright, maybe two) as they jotted down whatever thoughts that came to mind, no matter how trivial or irrelevant those thoughts were and inserted them in their manuscript. To say that both authors have a knack for stating the obvious would be an understatement. The 47 pages they spent on Trade Shows was absolutely amateurish. For example, strategy 154 - "Dress in a Costume." Being the clown of the booth is probably not such a great idea unless you're at a circus. Moreover, when was the last time you heard a buyer say "I hated their line, but the M&M's were great."

Cuts Straight to the Chase: How to Sell More Product

This book is definitely gospel for sales reps like myself who sell multiple lines of product to independent, mom and pop retailers. Segel and Shay have done a great job keeping this book simple. The format makes it a quick reference to use and re-use over time and the tips all highlight what I believe is the most important principle of sales: building strong, personal relationships with the people you are selling to. As retailers themselves, Segel and Shay know what independent retailers want and need most and they have created a book that allows sales people like myself to make better offers to them. I would have to say that the greatest benefit of this book is the almost limitless supply of creative promotional tactics one can use on even the tiniest of budgets. I recommend this book wholeheartedly to any wholesaler, manufacturer, or sales rep looking to build long-term relationships with retailers.

This book is dated; the law changes at least one a month, sometimes more often. Your examiner doesn't live or work in the past or regard out-dated laws as useful tools for business. You will never know what is current, right or wrong when you trust a dated law book. NO. NO, NO, NO, GET SOMETHING NEWER.

I started in commercial real estate as an income property sales person, after getting a degree in real estate finance. I used this book while I studied real estate law in college, to pass my real estate exam, and to use anytime I had a need during my time as an agent. Today, 16 years later, I am now an active full time investor, and train other investors my successful techniques and strategies. This book is one of my top ranked "must haves" for any real estate investor. It quickly answers those legal questions that constantly come up. Plus, it helps me ask better questions to my attorney, when I do need his advise. It's paid for itself 1000 times over.

This is the type of science fiction novel that is more torture than tale, filled with expository relativity and the telling of events.

It had a strong beginning dealing with a mysterious employer, inexplicable events, and danger. The beginning faded off rapidly as the inexplicable events aren't explained, but the characters spend about a hundred pages talking about theory and experiencing more weirdness without realizing a thing.

The middle is bad, really bad. You find out it's a quantum thing dealing with the many worlds theory that randomly worldjumps when technology is involved. Given the character's tepid reactions, they don't really care, so you don't either. Plus there's a random explicit kinky bondage scene tossed in for no reason. Book is not safe for the kiddies, be warned away parents.

The end is pretty awesome as far sci-fi goes. It's a neat package wrapped in a happy quantum ribbon, and stopped me from disliking the novel, upgrading the book to 'meh.' It's fairly paining to reach that end though, so skim the middle.

Overall this would have made an awesome novella of fifty pages, but as novel, lacking, particularly in suspense and characterization.

Short, Not Helpful but Historic Value

Review Date: 2008-10-18
This tiny book was written in 1971 by William I. Kaufman. It has maybe 30 total pages, with only a few of those being recipes and half being drawings. It is definitely aimed at a hostess who knows nothing about the Japanese culture and is having fun. Its page on hostess tips says to buy robe, go barefoot or wear sandals, and "be charming and beautiful and gracious - as Japanese women are."

The only recipes are for scallops in soy sauce, egg soup, marinated broiled chicken, crabmeat and vegetable saute, sauteed beef and vegetables, stuffed eggplant and fruit filled potato sweets.

It's hard to really criticize this book - obviously it was made as a fun little throwaway item to give a quick set of hints to someone wanting a fun evening. Still, they could have removed some of the meaningless drawings and added more recipes, or even general background information about the culture.

Still, if you're able to find this, it's a fun addition to a library of Japanese cookbooks over the years.

It isn't Great or Bad. It is just.......

This is a very hard book to review. Niven and Pournelle are traditionally a very potent combination. I picked this book up sure I was going to enjoy another great mind blowing yarn. I was wrong.

The premise is interesting. In the future the urban sprawl is a failure. Humanity must find a better way to live together and harness the power of community. Enter the super building or min-city. These corporate entities that begin as dependants but separate from the city they dwell in or by become more independent and powerful as they develop. Drop in a few personal issues, the normal jealousy of those living in the less prosperous city, your run of the mill radical "fill in the blank" group and you have more then enough to spin a yarn for a few hundred pages. Right? You would think so.

The problem I think is that Niven and Pournelle seem more interested in selling us the concept of the independent min-city ala Anne Rayne versus the story that is taking place there. I humbly suggest the two normally solid authors got it wrong this time. Worry about the story and make sure the landscape is solid. If you have a vivid landscape but populate it with a bunch of dullards who will stay for long?

This was a good or decent read but far below what one has come to expect from these two authors working together.
