Valuable for people raised by maids and nannies

As someone who got more mothering from the live-in housekeeper than from my own mother, I found this book to be affirming and interesting. Most of the book is made up of personal memoirs, some based on interviews with both the caregiver and the now-grown child. There are also brief chapters discussing some of the issues raised, such as the difference in race or class between the caregiver and child. The only disappointment was the lack of a bibliography for further reading.

If you are a nanny, or if you work with children in a private home in any capacity, or if you ever had a nanny, this book will touch your heart. It is so encouraging to know that the love nannies have given to their charges has a lifelong impact on them. Thank you Barbara Blouin for a book that affirms the special relationship between a nanny and the children she cares for.

This is a valuable set of case studies on development projects that actually benefit the grassroots. Although set in Bolivia, many of the lessons apply to other parts of the developing world. The book is well written and would be a great text for a course in development studies.

it makes you feel good!

The intimate travel details and encounters with prospective project developers in Bolivia are revealed in this book. You read about the many projects that the IAF has sponsored, successful at times and not, it is great to know that these projects have been throughly researched by IAF employees.

It makes you feel good to see U.S. dollars go into super positive grassroots projects.

The projects included in this book are diverse and very intriguing. Highly recommended!

Great Overview

If you want the ultimate (but slightly out of date) book on the Skunk Works, look at the Jay Miller work. However, if you want a good overview that is fairly current, then this is the book for you. It includes data on the UAVs and X-33 that Skunk Works was developing prior to their cancellation. Lots of great photos, mostly in color.

It is truly amazing what the Skunk Works will attempt to design. From the first operational US jet fighter, to the first operational Mach 2 airplane, to UAVs and suborbital spacecraft (the X-33) ... Skunk Works has tried it all. Normally they succeed, and that is what most books are about. But this one actually takes you into some of the programs that have failed. Although fairly small, it is in full color and contains lots of great information. Highly recommended.

I like Dr. Lacefield's book. It is organized in a way that tells an interesting story about what he calls "the rich pagent of the earth's history- a world lost to time".

Dr. Lacefield clearly and understandably connects the Alabama rock units and fossils with the Timetable of Geologic History over 4 billion years. He also shows some of the biological and economic relationships to the modern environment.

The numerous outstanding illustrations and photographs help explain the 7 geologic regions of the state and the formations and road cuts seen along the states roadways. Using the guide, it would be possible to go to any county in the state and identify rock units. In addition, line drawings of hundreds of fossils would give an idea of what types of fossils may be seen.

For further reference, there is an extensive list of relevant readings as well as a bibliography of sources of pictures for the fossil guides. Some of the photographs look like museum displays of the geological periods. The book could be used as a museum guide.

Geology for everyone

This comprehensive book is a great geology manual for scientists, students and anyone interested in the earth's formation and the natural history that is preserved in rocks. Mr. Lacefield begins at the beginning, giving us an easy to understand geologic history, explains technical terms and definitions throughout the book. It is filled with beautiful photographs and illustrations that let us see as well as read about the science that is so evident in the state of Alabama. Although written specifically about Alabama, Lost World in Alabama Rocks is far reaching in its value to geologists. Geologic data that is deep underground in many areas on earth is still above ground and evident in the Alabama landscape. This fact makes Alabama an excellent place for the student of geology to gain firsthand experience for studies of other locations and this book provides a frame work for putting it all together.

Tsukihime.

With the Manga's coming out the naime series and manga and videogame are starting to get well known. Tsukihime the mangas series is really good. It is deeper in the plot than the anime series.

A Vampire(a true ancestor) gets murdered by a ordinary boy. she makes him protect her because he made her weak. It turns ot the boy has eyes of death perception. He sees the lines of death, and by tracing them the item, or being is either severed or dies.

They are looking for a master vampire who creates genocides. His name is Roa, and the vampire thinks shiki(Boy with the Magical eyes) is the vampire. Then the church gets involved and sends a girl named Ceil to find roa. She too thinks shiki is Roa. But the blame starts to shift from shiki to his sister when she starts showing magical powers. Who is the real roa?

It's a cute gothic lovestory involving vampires. I recommend it to nearly everyone.

Better than the anime!

This book offer a much better view of the Tsukihime story than the anime. Not only does it retain the game's atmosphere, the book also amplify's it.

The graphics are clean and I find the character design to be trully interesting. The author was able to trully make us feel and understand the expressions of the characters.

However, a small thing that could have been better is the removal of the original Japanese characters. I understand the translators left them there to prevent themselves from harming the graphics yet with the English translation next to them they simply feel out of place and the book would have gained a lot from simply redrawing those small spots.

This book is more advanced than others such as "Dare to Repair". If you hate calling the super for every little problem, or can't afford to be hiring a fix-it guy all the time this is the book for you. Shows you how to do home improvement projects that even renters can do too.

I purchased this book while I lived in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and I loved it. Mr. McDougall's tips on survival kits are very practical (I now keep several of his mini safety and fire kits in my car, cabin and home.) His instructions for waterproofing leather boots are a snap and work just like he says, 'one treatment will last the life of the boot, or longer'. This book is clear, to the point, well written and a pleasure to read, with projects suitable to a wide range of ages.

Tony White's "Make it Happen" is a terrific resource for anyone in a leadership position. His common sense approach to building the foundation for effective teams is time-tested and proven. The chapter on maintaining high performance teams is loaded with great practical tips, tools and techniques. And, since things sometimes go wrong despite our best efforts, there is a powerful chapter devoted to repairing your team. I am a big fan.

This handbook REALLY CAN "Make it Happen"!

A factor that truly makes this book more of a practical handbook verses a heavy handed text of facts-is the ease and simplicity in finding, following, and acting upon the various methods of managing and organizing any team or staff. What this book lacks in size it more than makes up for in content, making it even more ideal to keep it close by in your desk, briefcase, or work station, as opposed to being lost in your book shelf or library.Illustrations are simple and easy to follow, though not in color or glossed over which results in less of a destraction anyway. What makes it so worthwhile, as it's cost is quite minimal to begin with (under $20 US), is the fact I have already perused through it only minutes prior to a meeting of my peers, only days after reading the whole book! The point forms are easy to follow & stand out as a check list of what to do, and how to do it, and can help as a mini-refresher course, when the pressure is on and you only have minutes to get it done. Though I feel its cover is a little too glossy (I have an aversion for glossy books & mags), and yes I know we should not judge a book by its cover, but I hate giving 100% reviews. Yes, Tony White could have added more and extrapulated here and there, but then it would have lost the basic quality and ease, that he probably set out to do in the first place! If you follow this book religously like the 'office bible'it just might become, I see no reason why you can't "Make it Happen".

I am a 21 year old biology major and this is one of the best science books I've ever purchased. I have always loved books that involved cut-and-paste but this one is the best. You end up with an actual model of a dinosaur as well as extensive knowledge of skeletal anatomy, dinosaur and bird facts, and how to roast a chicken!

Excellent book, especially if you have kids!

A wonderful project, and a clear and well-written book. Do not expect to finish quickly -- we spent many hours over many months cleaning, sorting, cutting, and assembling a beautiful 'apatosaurus.' Kids of all ages (mine are 3 and 5) can get involved, from enthusiastically finishing their chicken dinners to cleaning and sorting and assembling the new family pet.

I should note that if you have a Dremel or similar moto-tool, you'll find a lot of the cutting and sanding easier (and you'll have less bone-boiling).
