Columbia Catastrophe & Institutionalized Bureaucracy

Review Date: 2003-02-03
The Columbia catastrophe happened on Feb. 1, 2003, is a tragic repeat of the Challenger explosion in 1986 that was analyzed in a project called ¡§Complete Democracy in the USA¡¨ in the DYNAMIC CHIKUNG, which attributes the cause of the Challenger catastrophe to institutionalized bureaucracy that is the main structural flaw of our political system and society. This was also exact what happened according to the New York Times article ¡§NASA Dismissed Advisers Who Warned About Safety (February 3, 2003).¡¨ When I first bought the DYNAMIC CHIKUNG two years ago, I concentrated on the exercises that bring me great health benefits. At that time I wondered why the issue of Democracy was there. Now I realize the author raises a most important issue and actually predicts what would happen if democracy is not completed in our country and society and the world as well.

With patience and displine and determintion, I benefit from practising Dynamic ChiKung everyday and I have treated all my chronic health problems. I also found the Dynamic ChiKung includes a project called "Complete Democracy in the USA," which two years ago I thought was irrelevant and unimportant. But when relating to the numerous corporate scandals happening recently, I believe that establishing all authorities in all cells of the society through democratic, periodic elections is exactly what the USA and the world need and is the only way to clean up corruption which is deeply rooted in human nature. A human in power without restraint is bound to corrupt. He definitely needs periodic democratic cleansing.

A reviewer, a thinker., September 21, 2001,
Recommend 'PROJECT 'BRING HEAVEN TO EARTH''
Besides the health benefits of the Dynamic Chikung, I would like to recommend a project called 'BRING HEAVEN TO EARTH' in this book. This project analyses profoundly why terrorists sacrifice innocent human lives for themselves to go to heaven. The clarification of the mutual complementary nature of divinity and humnity really explains the tragedy of the World Trade Center on 9/11/2001 to the point.

Dear Sir or Madam:

I am Chauncey Chen, the author of Dynamic ChiKung. My book is a health book, though very spiritual, but it is not a spiritual or religeous book. I hope you can make some corrections. By doing so, I believe you will promote sales.

Sincerely,

Chauncey Chen

Amazing Self-Energizing Process Kills Pain, Cures Illenesses

... I'd like to share my new concept development with readers one year after its publication: namely the scientific interpretation of this healing art, which is not in [this] book. There are many healing arts in different cultures, but none of them can possibly be interpreted scientifically. This DCK is the only one. First, it absorbs cosmic energy together with air we inhale. Quantum Theory of Fields says there are energy fluctuations everywhere in the universe caused by never-ending creation and annihilation of electron-positron pairs. This energy input to our body is essential, for the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics says a close system develops into disorder rather than order. We can observe a glass break into pieces, but we can never observe the broken pieces come back to restore the glass. If you want to repair the glass, you have to put intelligent energy into the repair. Further, the DCK performs mechanic work by blowing, pushing, contracting, rotating, undulating the air in the abdomen to perform mechanic work unto self. According to the 1st Law of Thermodynamics, work performed unto a system (abdomen) increases its internal energy and the system (abdomen) in its turn performs mechanic work to its adjacent body parts. This is the cultivation of Life Energy that penetrates and removes all obstructed vascular systems and optimizes circulation. This energy flow also re-energizes the Immune System that fights invaders all time and needs rest and to be revitalized. Drugs can hardly do this because they are made of particles foreign to the body and can be trapped by body particles. They can only serve as the last resort. Regular exercises consume body energy for health. The complete depletion of body energy, however, is death as seen in cases when famous Olympic Gold Medallist suddenly fell dead, and the jogging master who advocated jogging died during jogging. The DCK, however, not only contains energy within the body all the time, but also transforms mechanic work into Life Energy all the time. It is the most amazingly advantageous transformation from one's mechanic work into Life Energy. All other healing arts, including the popular Falun Gong, do not have this feature. The DCK is the most effective after ten years' testing. By practicing the DCK, I killed all my pains and cured all my illnesses. I didn't even catch a cold when people around me were suffering from severe colds. I see my doctor only once a year for an annual exam. The human starts aging at 11. Let's steal time. All you need is a little patience and a try. Remember, but you need only 20-30 minutes each day. Afer practicing sometime, the DCK becomes enjoyable and addictive. It means if only you skip one day, you feel something so beautiful is missing. Thanks for reading.

A last word: only when you practice, then you know how to review. Remember, this is a revolutionary action book, not just talking. It changes the old concept "to cure and be cured" into "self-cure." No "self-cure" is the weakest point in our mainstream health programs. That's why we are running out of nurses and hospital facilities, because the whole baby-boomer generation is aging. More important, a human starts aging as early as 11. Steal time!

This is the best project book I have seen for teaching about the Human Body. Although it says for grades 2-4, I plan to use this when I start homeschooling my grade one daughter; the subject matter should not be too difficult for her to understand. All projects are included for photocopying and each topic includes interesting experiments to try as well. I highly recommend this book.

The hands on activities and information made this two week unit a breeze. The students enjoyed making the models and then sharing them with each other. The accompaning information and ideas for teaching are excellant.

LOVE the book, hate the binding

I love this book. It has ideas for REAL families. Sometimes you flip through books and magazines that have decorating and organizing projects for some fictional family that must have way too much money, way too much time, and kids who don't behave like real kids. This is a very down-to-earth, realistic book of projects that are doable, affordable, and work for real people.

That being said, I really wish this book was in regular paperback or hardcover, not spiralbound. I hate that I have to worry about the pages tearing out. I expect to have this book a long time and I don't look forward to when the pages will inevitably start to come off the spirals. Please, FamilyFun, make the bindings of your books more practical!

Fanciful Quilts is a wonderful paper piecing book. It has a touch of Holland with the windmills and tulips. The wedding quilt would be a beautiful present for that special bride and groom. For the special little boy who has to have a town for his little cars, this book shows you how to create such a town. Other quilts include a rose quilt, a wilderness quilt, a cat quilt, bear quilt, turtle quilt, and the cute cover quilt, the dog quilt.

The book is beautifully photographed and also includes extra ideas for each project. Fanciful Quilts to Paper Piece is a lovely addition to any quilter book shelf. I highly recommend this book. I hope this is just the first of many books Wendy will write!

I loved reading Fanciful quilts to paper piece. It's full of great quilts, good photo's showing how to do things and clear directions for the patterns themselves. The writer also showed different ways of using the blocks or sections of a pattern to make something else as well - not a common occurance and much appriciated!

The pattern i tried first was the windmill block and it went together like a dream!

I am pretty new to crochet, so I was looking for quick easy projects with great instructions, and this is it! Each project has how-to photos with step by step instructions---awesome for the beginner.

The projects are:
Loop flower
tasseled hat
storage bag (very cute!)
clothes hanger
striped cushion
belt
striped scarf
pillow
baby's garland with teddy bears
hippy handbag
slot-thru scarf
hat with brim
pet ball
rose
zigzag hat
baby booties
string bag
ribbed pillow
clothes cover
bath math
baby blanket
ruffled scarf
frilly bag
retro throw

MOst of the projects use Debbie Bliss and Jaegar yarns but can easily be substituted.

I learned the basics of crocheting from this book. The book starts with basic crochet stitches that one can practice before starting projects. The following chapters go in order of the easiest stitch to the hardest stitch. So the first chapter includes several projects that utilize the single crochet stitch, the second chapter has several that use the double crochet stitch, and so on. I was able to make a hat for my 1 year old son in a day from the first chapter.

There are many cute projects in this book. The instructions are clearly written and there are plenty of color pictures to help along the way. In addition, the front and back flaps of the book list out the basics of crocheting, as a quick reference.

I highly recommend this book, for beginners to learn the basic techiniques, and for more experienced people, for the excellent projects.

I have tried out many books on beginning crochet and this is the best, most user friendly book I have ever owned. I absolutely love it, the patterns are modern and easy. If you go pattern to pattern, they slowly rise in difficulty, I love that feature. Also the how-to in the beginning has excellent illustrations for learning new stiches. If you are learning to crochet I recommend this book 100%!

I can't believe no one has reviewed this book yet. It's fantastic. The projects are great, and very cute. There are tons of very nice, professional pictures throughout the book to show you what your project is supposed to look like at various stages. The instructions are clear, and well written. I really can't say enough about this book. I am not a very experienced crocheter, so this book was perfect for me. I also love the other book in this series, "First Knits", and I highly recommend that as well. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the fact that the yarns the book calls for are a little obscure here in the US (the book is British in origin ) however, there's always the internet as a means of getting the yarn, and I've had no problem finding appropriate substitutions. Definitely recomended.

If you are new to the Apollo programme, and want a concise chronological account of the Apollo 11 mission, here's the perfect book.

The story is all here: Astronaut biographies, preparations, launch, lunar traverse, orbit, landing, ascent, and recovery. The beauty of this book is the narrative is a mixture of the authors research, NASA transcripts, and historical archives.
There is liberal use of b&w and colour photographs, and diagrams from NASA flight plans.

All this added together gives the reader the mission from the more important viewpoints, and you can imagine yourself right in the middle of all the unfolding drama.

Highly recommended.

I worked on the Apollo 11 launch at Kennedy and therefore have a more than passing interest in the subject. This is the first book I have found that is (as far as I can tell) technically perfect. I was sorry when I ran out of book. I especially enjoyed the way Harland included the on-board voice transcripts interspersed with his explanations of what was going on. Lots of good photos and explanatory diagrams. I would rate this 10 stars if it were possible.

My review is similar, in part, to the first reviewee from California. I had seen this one listed but did not purchase it immediatley. I read and collect books on the Mercury to Apollo space program but I had to weigh the price-to-new-presentation format factor of this book before deciding to aquire it.
The first review was enough to make me want to get it and add it to my collection. Some new pictures, in color, were good to see. (Also noted was the fact that there are pictures of Neil Armstrong on the moon. This seems to be mis-represented in other books. The two pictures are of him in the background and not a "tourist" style shot.)
What I liked the most was the commentary between the astronauts and Mission Control. I had not read as complete of a dialoge from lift off to splash down as I had in this book. This type of material may have been covered in other books that I have not yet discovered or read, such as the NASA Mission Report book series by Robert Goodwin.
I enjoyed the layout and informative interpretation of the material. I thought that it was another good version of an "old" story.

My son requested tis book as he worked with miniatures before and wanted more. It looks wonderful and I'm glad I found it for him. It is to be a Christmas present and I'm sure he will love it.

This book is great for those who are fascinated with the art of making miniature food. Sue Heaser explains things clearly and tells you what products to use to get that "professional look". Good sized pictures make it easier to understand the steps involved in creating miniature food using different types of mediums. Check out Sue's other great books. She's definately tallented when it comes to sculpting with polymer clay and teaching others how to do the same.

Another must-have for beginners and enthusiasts alike!

A great book! This book's main strength is that it clearly shows the author's techniques for creating different colors and textures with polymer clay that are seen in real food. Appealing to beginners, the book covers the basics of working with polymer clay, including mixing colors and which tools you'll need. The book also shows techniques for making dishes and even cutting boards from which to display your work. Truly a must-have for the budget-conscious beginner or enthusiast!

This is an excellent resource book for miniaturists. Contains some different and fresh ideas other books of a similar nature do not have. My only criticism is that the step-by-step photos could be larger. Otherwise, a very good, thought-provoking publication.
