Evelyn Sutcliffe works as a third year resident at the University Hospital on Manhattan's Upper West Side. Her significant other, psychiatrist Phil Carchiollo, has lately turned moody and argumentative. Ironically, his withdrawal occurs even as their friends and family plan to celebrate the couple's one-year anniversary together. Guest Gary Seligman, RN, tries mushrooms from a food platter anonymously sent as a gift and soon dies from respiratory shock.

Evelyn believes the poisonous mushrooms were intended for her to sample, especially since she received a threatening note just a few weeks before Gary's death. Phil admits that a former patient has recently been stalking him. At first, Evelyn feels the woman wants her out of the way so she can attain her obsession, Phil. However, new evidence points towards Gary being the actual target by a criminal who will kill Evelyn and her cohorts to keep his identity quiet.

Leah Ruth Robinson is renowned for her entertaining medical thrillers. Her trademark, similar to that of Patricia Cornwell, is to leave readers feeling they are visiting old friends as characters return in new story lines. The lead couple is a delightful pair, especially Evelyn. UNNATURAL CAUSES is a winning medical thriller that will leave readers wanting more tales starring effervescent Evelyn.

A Must Have For Wall Street Buffs

Terrific explanation of a time many have forgotten, when Wall Street nearly collapsed not from scandal but from hubris, incompetence, and just plain sloppiness. Remember when the markets were closed on Wednesdays so firms could process their paperwork? How about Ross Perots adventure to conquer the street? Me neither. Unless you lived it, you'll never get closer to knowing how many times the whole ballgame nearly came undone.

It May be Old but it is still the Best Guide Book!
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2007-12-09
I have had my copy of this book since 1995 - some 12 years ago but as strange as it may sound the book is fairly accurate - I would assume that a newer revised edition of this book is out there or will be some day - but until then - this is still the best of these veteran benefit guide books.

I have used this book helping and assisting PTSD veterans for the last decade. The authors have done a wonderful job of researching and putting the information together. The only issue now would be all the new laws and regulations that may be out there now - so my advice is to look for a revised copy of this book.

Amazing depth with insightful nuance of language
Helpful Votes: 17 out of 155 total.
Review Date: 1999-10-05
While most works on non-fiction in this genre are dry to the point of being utilitarian this book, the best of the now five edition legacy from Intertec, captures all of the excitement and energy often lost in lesser works. In sooth, this book is comprehensive, informative, and well illustrated. But, the reader is never forced to pay a price for bounty of knowledge that is imparted as each page is turned to reveal the next nugget of truth.

Throughout this book the quite yet faithful purr of the authors mind is evident as an intricate web of adjustments, refinements, and balances are brought to bear on a story of failure, realization, and renewal. If you thought you may have to scrap your hopes of finding a book that could revive the most rusty of human conditions you will rejoice in the promise of this well groomed masterpiece: Walk-Behind Lawn Mower : Service Manual the 5th edition.

A powerful and fascinating work
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2002-01-12
Washington's New Poor Law: Welfare "Reform" And The Roads Not Taken, 1935 To The Present is a comprehensive study of the consequences of the "welfare reform" legislation of 1996, which repealed entitlement to welfare, yet was not especially successful in creating an entitlement to work. The new poor law still has major problems with perpetuating poverty. The history of this pivotal 1996 legislation is meticulously traced, as are its modern-day consequences, and a final chapter regards the nature of what real welfare reform should be. A powerful and fascinating work, Washington's New Poor Law is strongly highly recommended reading for anyone with an interest in or responsibility for combating poverty in America.

A welcome addition to American History shelves and reference collections
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-03-03
Welfare and Charity in the Antebellum South is a scholarly examination of public welfare efforts in the American South prior to the Civil War, and a much-needed counterbalance to studies of such issues during the period that tend to focus upon the urban centers of the North. In the nineteenth century, private acts of charity were almost exclusively meted out to whites, ranging from the founding of state-supported schools, orphanages, and health care to food relief efforts. Because of these charitable works, the poor whites of the south had less resentment of the rich, and as a group they were more willing to risk their lives in military service along with the rich slaveholders as the Civil War threatened. Welfare and Charity in the Antebellum South includes careful comparisons between the upper and lower South, between urban and rural areas, and between welfare efforts in the South and the North, as well as correcting the myth that Northern charity was more widespread. A welcome addition to American History shelves and reference collections, especially recommended for college libraries.
