A great wealth of knowledge is packed into this volume. It includes extensive info about Spain as well, including the Reconquista and Age of Exploration. This is the only place I have been able to find detailed maps of both Bolivar and San Martin's campaigns in English. I would have liked to see a bit more about British & American imperialism in the 19th century, but overall it is a great book. I would puchase a newer, up-to-date version in a heartbeat.

In-Depth Discussion of the Implications of Baha'i Law
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2004-02-25
This book is rather unique, in that it has discussion of Baha'i law and secular law in the context of International Relations and world order. One article is by new Universal House of Justice member Kiser Barnes, (that is the world governing body of the Baha'i Faith)who gives an outstanding essay on the nature of Baha'i law. Secular law is well presented by an essay on Baha'is in the legal profession by well known Baha'i lawyer. The entire volume is distinctive and very though provoking. This would be an excellent book for those students of the Baha'i Faith who seek new insights and more depth and members of the Baha'i Faith who wish to understand the Faith more deeply. Students of Baha'i law who have read the Kitab-i-Aqdas (the Most Holy Book) of Baha'u'llah's law will find this discussion interesting without being confusing or lost in details. I strongly recommend it to students of Baha'i studies, Middle Eastern studies students, and comparative religious scholars. Well thought out and planned.

A Fine Book for Basketball and/or Sociology fans

"Life in the Valley of Death" by Edward R. Ward is an excellent and highly thought provoking book that can be appreciated by NCAA Basketball devotees and also the shrinking minority of social students looking to learn more about race relations, structural racism, and sociological interaction through the deceptively small scope of Missouri Valley Conference basketball in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

Ward begins with a brilliantly and thoroughly researched guide through that brief period of college basketball history. He leads the reader through the information with intelligence, sensitivity and subtle humor.

He closes the book with a discussion of the philosophical and sociological implications of the tumultous time of sports history where segregation, contempt for black people and the desire to win was balanced on a political, social, and academic tight rope.

Any reader will find that once one finishes with the body of content, the actual reading is only half way over, as Ward has tightly packed his end notes with additional anecdotal and general facts, findings and reflections that range from Bill Walton's coaching tips to postmodern analysis of diversity within large institutions.

Ward's quality of prose never disappoints and shows that he not only possesses the ability to research, but also the skill of storytelling.

To love God is to teach others to love God

The Rambam teaches that the greatest love of God is to teach others to love God. It is with that spirit that Aryeh Kaplan reached out to a Jewish world he saw assimilating and losing its way. He believed that the religious establishment was not doing enough to reach alienated Jewish youth. And so he devoted himself to the effort to reach and teach so many who were waiting to return to the Jewish tradition. In this work he considers the whole meaning of the obligation of ' reaching out to others' of each Jew's being responsible for the other .As always with Aryeh Kaplan this is an illuminating , thought- filled and deeply inspiring work.

It is the most comprehensive and respected work on parliamentary procedures that I know of. It is the only volume of it's kind on the desk of those legislators with whom I work. If you don't know the rules you are at a real disadvantage to those who do. A must own book.

I am reading this book for a second time, plus I am reading it to my wife at night. I would recommend anyone to get this book, for this man truly was a great man of God. Completely sold out for CHRIST was this man, who is also forgotten in this day and age.I wonder what he would think of today's church. Actually, I know he would condemn us for our apostacy, and then preach CHRIST. Get this book.Imitate CHRIST as he would.

Judaism and Christianity are religious communities bound together by rituals of commemoration reaffirming to each its identity in the present through images and words from the past. During the 20th century, both Jews and Christians have engaged in a creative dialogue with historical disciplines and held conversations significantly altering their respective approaches to theological and religious language. Modernity undermined naive conjunctions between memory and ritualization, challenging the validity of memory grounded in the authority of divine revelation. In Memory And History In Christianity And Judaism, Michael Signer has gathered together an informative array of very highly recommended essays and responses by erudite and knowledgeable contributors affirming the difficulty and desirability of lining history and memory with the context of the Jewish and Christian communities.

The results of a conference on amalgam toxicity. A DDS and PhD from Walter Reed proves that dentists poison themselves when they drill in amalgams, Hal Huggins documents that blood counts go crazy when amalgams are inserted, someone else points out that the electro-magnetic fields that result from amalgam fillings are as strong as having a high-voltage power line above your house etc, etc..
