To get the most out of a computer program, just using it effectively isn't enough. "Logic Pro 8: Tips and Tricks" is a guide to mastering the software's ins and outs. Helping users optimize their program so that they can edit and mix their audio to make the best mastery possible, and enhanced with a glossary and index, "Logic Pro 8" is the most comprehensive manual available.

The book is probably the best technical reference on lossless compression ever published. All aspects of the book deserve kudos. It contains up to the date and to the point professional coverage of a wide field presented with an exceptional clarity. The balance between practical and theoretical aspects is excellent.

The book is mostly self-contained thanks to the intro part on the basics of information and complexity theory. The intro, despite its modest size, is superior to many dedicated textbooks. The other three main parts discuss compression techniques, applications and standards. The chapters are written by different authors and, as can be expected, are not all equal in terms of depth or practical applicability. However, all of them provide a list of well selected references, which compensate for some of the shorter chapters. The editors and the authors did a great job on delivering the text which is quite uniform in style, highly informative and yet very readable and digestible throughout the entire book.

Most methods are explained with enough details to start your own research or implementation. Whenever possible the authors compare different methods with tables and graphs. Thus, before a reader jumps into coding, (s)he can make an intelligent choice. (This, btw, comes from my personal experience. The next day after arrival the book helped me to find a better replacement for an inhouse method of encoding.)

Practitioners will also appreciate discussion of patent issues and possible workarounds, when applicable.

Bottom line - this is one of the most useful technical books I bought. A must have for anyone working with data compression.

If you love the bard, you must buy this or the whole Arkangel series! I like the recent movie of Love's Labors Lost but it is really a Hollywood extravaganza which includes a little S. On the other hand, you can hear the whole text read by specialists on Arkangel.

I think the choice is easy. This is so much better!

This book is an information-packed resource that provides invaluable tools for both the beginning graphic designer and the experienced multimedia developer for creating attractive and easy to use on-screen images and graphics. It thoroughly covers the techniques for designing interactive products, including 3D graphics, user interface design, and pages for the World Wide Web. A CD-ROM is includedwhich contains examples in HyperCard, SuperCard, and Director files, and a presentation which compliments key portions of the book done in SuperCard.

This book is great for anyone who wants to know the ins and outs of the Coldfusion language. The author uses real life examples and nice tutorials to drive home the point.

The QuickTime Movie tutorials make it easy to go back and review any lesson and skip around to the topics that interest me most. The Director CD is a real winner - I highly recommend it!

This Book for Mac or Windows is Outstanding. It covers just about all the commands in Lingo, And no one knows them better than the person who wrote the Lingo language. Sample movies help explain complex commands in an easy straight forward manner.

I used this book while taking Web Design classes. I really enjoyed learning Macromedia Dreamweaver. The thrill being that you enter your coding and then preview what you have entered to see the results.
