Comprehensive Reference GuideReview Date: 2008-04-17
Just what the title saysReview Date: 2006-07-13
It takes you step by step and explains the equipment, techniques - scripting, shooting, editing concepts in a warm and friendly way. If you want to see excerpts, go to the author's web site: www.videouniversity.com, and you can see excerpts from each chapter in the book.
The book has also been completely revised in 2005. I get so frustrated reading video how to books that are still talking about VHS tapes. This one knows about mini-DV recorders and DVDs. Hurray! I definitely recommend this book if you are trying to market your business using a video.
It is beyond the scope of this book, however, if you are trying to market your business using a video, you should get a book as well on how to stream your video on the internet because that's how business marketing videos are being viewed these days.

Best Book for Vegas 5Review Date: 2005-07-01
This book is like the Adobe "Classroom in a Book" series. Each chapter presents you with a new set of Vegas tools, an explanation of how they work and what you might do with them, then gives you a few "real world" hypothetical situations to work on with your new tools. The chapters end with an explanation of how you should have attacked the problem, step by step.
Well written and polished. The best Vegas book out there for the beginner.

Excellent Linux CBT!Review Date: 2002-05-01
kind of training I was looking for. Although I've had some very minor
exposure to linux, I am absolutely a newbie. This CBT allowed me to
pop the cd into my WindowsXP machine and use videoclips, audioclips and
multimedia demonstrations to get a jumpstart on the Linux learning curve.
Right off the bat there are step-by-step instructions/demos for
the Red Hat 7.x install. Then you get a walk through of the various parts
of the GNOME and KDE desktop. The CBT book and course line seem to follow
along the RHCE exam guide but I haven't gotten that far.
There is a min. req. to use a Netscape browser but I used IE6
without a problem.
I was really impressed with how the author brought his real world
experience to the training. In the case of printing, the author feels
strongly in using the CUPS configuration even though this not out-of-the-box
Red Hat.
I could tell he is very concerned about security and wants to make
sure you are too. Passwords info, account management and good admin practices
are sprinkled through the training.
For newbies like me Linux can be intimidating. With this CBT you can
just re-run modules until you feel comfortable with a section.
I give this training very high marks for content, presentation and
ease of use. I'd recommend it to any new Linux user.

Want to direct? Want to edit?Review Date: 2002-01-24
There's a real good case study too. It reminds me of my first video shoot for 'The Clan'. There's real good focus in there, but I think they could go further with putting things together.
Buy this book if you're an editor or a director. Definitely if you're a director! I started out editing and some of the directors I worked with could really do with reading this book ;o)
The Brits do it againReview Date: 2002-02-15
The rest of the book deals with Final Cut Pro 2 (FCP2) in a logical progression from clip capture to editing, then on to special effects and concluding with sound. Throughout the discussions are examples to work along with as well as a continuing project called "yootclub."
This book gives an excellent introduction to video production, in general, and FCP2 in particular.

Best Sparth book ever! But....Review Date: 2008-06-04
My only disappointment is is the format size (which is why I still give this 5 stars, as I don't think this is the fault of the artist). These works deserve a much larger format than the medium/smallish 9 x 9 inches. Also, and this probably has more to do with who owns the image licenses than anything, there is a bit of "sameness", a slight lack of variety, about some of the work that's not apparent when viewing his website.
Still, a great book by any standard and an essential addition to any fantasy/sci-fi/art lover's book collection.
Phenomenal concept artReview Date: 2008-05-21
The work shown in this volume is mostly painted environments and vehicles. A couple pages of charcoal sketches and some plein-air digital work. It also has a good amount of robots and characters.

Landen suggests that you study commercials to learn how visuals are carefully crafted to tell a story in 30 seconds. He discusses the elements that make up commercials and business videos such as the types of shots, using graphics and transitions and incorporating narration, music and sound effects.
Using real world examples, Landen covers everything from location scouting to hiring actors to choosing the best clothing and makeup for the camera. He shows examples of such production concepts as composition and continuity, and he discusses different camera angles, lighting techniques and tips for recording clear audio.
Several chapters are devoted to editing and post production, and other chapters cover cable TV distribution, producing infomercials and using the web to market videos. The appendix is a resource unto itself with a glossary of video terms, lists of media associations, stock footage sources and a list of other books and training materials to further your study of video production.
This book does not cover event videography or documentary video production. It also does not get into producing video for the web. The video industry moves so fast that this 2005 publication of this book does not include high-definition video nor does it include Flash video. These are minor flaws in an otherwise concise and well written book that would work well as a college textbook or a reference guide for video producers who want to produce videos for business marketing.
