This book is best to be taken in during the course of one sitting--and it's possible considering the brevity of this novel (la). Jiles leaves out the unnecessary, like any good mystery writer, and what she leaves behind is beautiful lyric prose. Certainly worth your time.

I LOVE This Cookbook

I love this cookbook. The recipes are amazing! Among my favorite recipes are the Pork Saltimbocca With Pan Sauce, the Seared Tuna with Hazelnuts and Pink Peppercorns on Couscous, the Molasses-Almond Shrimp on Spicy Cabbage Salad and the Balsamic-Glazed Potatoes and Onions. Everything I've made from Small Plates, Perfect Wines so far has been very delicious! I had a dinner party recently and cooked only from this cookbook. The party was a great success. Along with each recipe are wine parings. I'd highly recommend this cookbook over others in the same category. It's a winner.

California is a difficult place to start a business and many that do fail. This book is easy to read, well laid out and takes you from the planning stage through execution of your business plan into handling the early crises of owning and operating your own business. It has helpful forms and contacts in the state of California that you would want and need. I strongly recommend getting it and reading it from cover to cover prior to beginning a business.

Thorough Introduction to Manners and Social Skills
Helpful Votes: 7 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 2005-04-08
This timely books addresses a growing challenge in our society: the need to aquire good social skills and manners.

June Hines Moore addresses everything from table manners to conversation to job interviews to proper attire. It is particularly geared for young adults.

This would also be useful curriculm for teaching youth about social skills. Parents could use this with their children, etc.

Social skills in our society are at an all time low. Between broken families, computer/video absorption, and perhaps a host of other reasons, young adults are in dire need of clearcut guidance and direction. You will find it here.

Incidentally, many adults who are no longer "young" could still pick up a number of pointers from this material. Highly recommended.

British Batchelor Parties

Leading men's magazines FHM and Maxim both agreed that this is the definitive guide to how the British do Batchelor Parties. The Brits take the tradition of the stag very seriously and over the last few years the stag night has become the stag weekend. Destinations are all over Europe and even as far as the USA. The book covers lots of excellent ideas and ways to make your batchelor party truly memorable.

Humor and Truth - Sometimes at the same time
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-04-01
This book, part of a series of 'Staying Sane' through some of the common experiences of life features a series of stories/articles/essays or whatever you'd call them from people who've 'been there, done that, and made every other mistake as well.'

The editors of this book are female. Most of the articles are by females, and I feel obligated to make a make comment or two. First and perhaps second, third and fourth -- This is not your place, so I'll offer a few guidelines. Your whole life will go better if you:

. Show up when you're told.
. Wear what you're told.
. Stand where you're told.
. Promptly handle the emergency tasks you're given.
. Stay reasonably sober.
. Remain calm when hurricane Ernesto blows in on your outdoor wedding.
. Don't try to help the groom make a getaway if he suddenly comes to his senses and decides to flee.

If you're experienced with weddings, the next one will be different, this book will give you a lot of humor. If you're new to the game, there is more truth here than you would expect.
