Pretty Bunny learns manners from Aunt Etiquette
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2006-10-23
Pretty Bunny goes for an extended visit to old Aunt Etiquette, where the bedroom furniture talks and tells her how to air her bed, pick up her clothes, and empty the wash basin. The Grandfather Clock teaches about being on time, and little bunnies also learn to respect their elders, not interrupt, and not be boisterous on the street. Other bunnies such as Heedless Bunny and Happy Bunny join in and either learn their lessons through rather corny rhymes, or become lessons in how not to behave. This unusual and light-hearted etiquette book written for children in 1922 may be dated now, but it will appeal to those who are interested in what constituted good manners in the last century.

Whatever you do, don't buy this book or recommend it to others!
It is so beautifully written and so hauntingly tempting that Portugal, one of the best kept secrets of the Culture Smart tourist, might just be over-run by the masses if news of this book leaks out. Sandy Guedes De Queiroz is more than your average travel writer. Besides capturing the sights, sounds, feelings, aromas and flavors of this beguiling country as she goes along, she takes the reader beneath the skin to it's streets, cafes, countryside and beaches in a way that has you aching to go back: even if you've never been there in the first place!
So, whatever you do, don't tell a soul. Keep it to yourself.

So many of the topics taught in this book are the very topics my husband and I have been teaching our 3 year old daughter...looking at adults in the eye when spoken to, sharing, mealtime manners, using kind words, etc. The author has done a great job of explaning the importance of good manners. I highly recommend this book!

An Entertaining and Delightful Book!

Review Date: 2008-01-26
Princess Fidgety Feet is an entertaining story about a young princess named Bridget who has very fidgety feet due to the fact that she wants to play soccer. The only thing that is holding her back are the demands that comes from being a princess.

Every Thursday, Princess Bridget waits for her friend, Ryan, the palace paper boy, to come by so they can secretly play soccer in the tower room away from the king and queen. But they are not the only ones in on their little secret! The king has been watching them play soccer every Thursday through a slightly opened door!

One day at the breakfast table, Princess Bridget was thinking about the soccer game that she and Ryan had played the day before. While she was thinking about the game her feet jerked. Her mother, the queen, scolded Princess Bridget for fidgeting so much and the king said that he would send for Miss Posy. He knew that she could help Princess Bridget with her fidgety feet! Oh, no! Princess Bridget could only think of how her life would be ruined because Miss Posy would stop her feet from fidgeting for sure!

On the day of Miss Posy's arrival, not only did she teach Princess Bridget how to be princess-like, but she also gave instructions to the royal guards, the servant and the cook! One could only guess the instructions that she gave to Princess Bridget on becoming more like a princess instead of Miss Fidgety Feet! Princess Bridget was ruined for sure!

One Thursday following another lesson on becoming princess-like, Princess Bridget and her friend Ryan were sitting in the tower and she was sharing how she doubted if her un-fidgety feet would ever be able to play soccer again. As much as she would love to, she didn't think it was in her.

Did Princess Bridget lose her fidgety feet? Will she have the opportunity to play soccer again?

This book is an excellent story for young boys and girls alike. It teaches the importance of being true to yourself by using humor, soccer and being a princess. The author, Pat Posner, has proven herself to be an excellent author with an ability to mix humor in storytelling. She has created a very heartwarming book that young readers will certainly enjoy!

I bought this book for my daughter and I can honestly say it is one of the best books we have read together. The story and illustrations are very well thought out and appeal to both my daughter and me. The best part of the book is that it comes with a cute embroidered hanky. I highly recommend this book for kids of all ages!

Practical advice for any young lady preparing for PROM
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2003-06-30
By its own admission "Prom!: The Complete Guide to a Truly Spectacular Nigh," is the ultimate prom book containing fill-ins, makeup tips, dress-shopping suggestions, and places to paste your most memorable prom pix. My oldest daughter went to her prom and enough time has passed since my own prom experience (I asked the girl of my dreams, she said yes, we went to dinner with two other couples, she was dating one of the other guys a week later and they got married. Me? I got to recite from "The Prophet" at their wedding. Add to this THE WORST PROM PICTURE IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD and you want to know if I am OVER MY SENIOR PROM?).

Where was I?

Besides wanting to look at the Prom experience from the other side of the gender universe I was also intrigued because the back cover of "Prom!" has choice quotes about the experience from Buffy and Angel from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," Phoebe from "Friends," and Bridget Jones from "Bridget Jones's Diary." Consequently I was hoping for not just a practical approach to the prom experience but also the pop culture perspective.

Author Nancy Krulik, whose text is accompanied by Kim Johnson's illustrations, begins with a very short history of prom as "A Night to Remember," which essentially resulted from turning debutante balls into exercises in democracy. After two pages of such history Krulik launches into "Will You Be Crushin' or Crushed," which makes it clear that whether you go solo, on date, or in a group, you can have fun. Krulik clearly covers all of the bases so whatever headaches you encounter, she offers sage advice for getting to the big night. The practical advice continues in the next chapter, where Krulik explains how to choose a dress based on your physical attributes (how to accentuate the positive, to recall an old turn of phrase). This chapter includes a list of what young ladies need to bring in their purse (everything from facial blotting paper to house keys), and the importance of comfortable shoes.

This gives you a sense of the value of this book. Read this before going to the prom and you will be able to chastise your date for giving you a red carnation (symbolizing admiration) rather than a red rose (symbolizing love, passion), pick your hair for the big night based on the shape of your face, give yourself a proper manicure and/or pedicure, what to eat to keep "your bod bodacious," how to zap your zits, how to know who pays for what, and even Krulik considers the "Prom Flix Top Pix" (from "American Pie" and "Carrie" to "Pretty in Pink" and "Prom Night," "Prom Night II," "Prom Night III: The Last Kiss," "Prom Night IV: Deliver Us From Evil").

The back of the book contains room to record your prom memories and pages in which to press your favorite photographs. However, the strength of "Prom!" is in its practical advice and not its ability to suffice as a keepsake memento. The book is cute, concise, and like the subtitle says, complete. I wish I had known all this sage advice last month when I could have offered in to my daughter, but I have another one and her big night will come. Just not for five or six years. Not to worry: good prom night advice never goes out of style.

EXCELLENT, CONCISE HANDBOOK

PROTOCOL MATTERS IS NOT ONLY HELPFUL BUT A GREAT READ. I WISH I HAD READ IT AS A YOUNG MOTHER AS A TEACHING TOOL FOR MY OWN CHILDREN. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN HELPFUL FOR THEM IN NAVIGATING AROUND "LIFE", IN A GRACIOUS AND APPROPRIATE MANNER. JUST KNOWING WHAT TO DO, AND HOW TO RESPOND IN ALL KINDS OF SITUATIONS IS BENEFICIAL--
TEACHING INTERPERSONAL SKILLS WAS MY FAVORITE PART--THIS IS MUCH MORE THAN A "WHICH FORK" MANUAL--THO THOSE DETAILS ARE COVERED TOO! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
