A standout book for kids' party planning.

As an elementary teacher and a parent, I've developed a collection of party planning books for kid's parties. This is the book I return to again and again for the best suggestions. There are so many creative ideas for decorations, menus, games and party favors. Some of my favorites include the Rainbow party (a big hit for toddlers!), the Firefighter party (including fun games involving squirting targets with a garden hose), and the Space party (where the favor bags are black bags poked with constellation holes and a flashlight!).

There are lots of different kinds of people who live in Mexico. I learned that from this book. There were Aztecs, Olmecs, Mayas, and more! I liked reading about all of them, but especially about the big head statues of the Olmecs.

"People say hello in [name of country]."
This may be a somewhat unusual book for ESL class, because it presents "hello" in six languages besides English.
However, it uses the same verb repeatedly, so it is a good supplement for a lesson on verbs.

Help to navigate the cultural and religious maze at death
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 2001-04-11
In 38 brief chapters, the editor profiles major (and minor) religious groups across North America. He includes the biggies like Baptists, Catholics, and Jews, of course, but he also includes the lesser-known groups like Hindu, Christian Science, Jehovah's Witness, and Bahai.

Each chapter introduces the reader to the history and belief system of the group and then details funeral ceremony practices, burial or cremation rites, ideas about appropriate dress, gifts, and flowers, and suggestions for caring for the bereaved family during and after the funeral. I've seen most of the books on funeral customs in different religious groups. This is a real gem--and the best book like it on the market!

Everyone Should Read This Book!
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2000-04-08
This little guidebook should be required reading for all of us! With humor and tongue-in-cheek advice for everyday situations in our lives, you'll be charmed and entertained as you read. What a great little book to add to a newborn's library, or slip in a Christmas stocking ~ the messages are clear, based on common sense, and can be applied to any age group. "Prudent people plan for the future, like Timmy Tiptoes and his wife. Though you may not need a hoard of acorns, it is highly sensible to place your money in a bank. A savings account will allow you to cope with sudden expenses and to treat yourself on a rainy day." "The importance of saying 'please' before you take something cannot be stressed enough. Pushing and grabbing is impertinent behaviour, inexcusable even in a rabbit. Similarly, when someone gives you a present or performs a favour, always remember to say 'thank you.' These short little words speak volumes." If you love Beatrix Potter, or Peter Rabbit strikes a memory cord, you'll enjoy this wonderful book and want to share it with others. It gets five stars from this reader!

This book is a parents wish come true!!
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.

The book had everything you could possibly need to throw your young child the most memorable birthday bash. The colorful illustrations and handy tips were a life saver. When my baby was born, I took time in choosing just the right theme, Peter Rabbit. Unfortunately, he's not as popular as other cartoon characters. This book had everything I was looking for any so much more.

Presents little known communication skills/phone as tool
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 7 total.
Review Date: 1999-02-06
Written in an interview/conversational format as a man who earns his living through telephone sales learns how we establish rapport with others, effective communication skills and how to overcome his personal phobia of the telephone, etc.

I have given copies of this book to others, who thoroughly enjoyed it and they in turn have also given copies of the book to others.

Communication and understanding of what produces desired interaction in this language driven world of ours is looked at critically with some very helpful, easily understandable and useful suggestions and/or ideas.

The reader also learns about how the mind processes information and in so doing assists the reader to tear down walls that separate us as individuals from others in the very human desire to make worthwhile human connection with others.

Enjoy the fun of learning how one's primary/preferred neurological stimulus affects our every day decisions and even the words we primarily use.

I very highly recommend "The Phone Book" by Zarro, et al. to anyone who communicates and desires to do so more effectively. This short, easy read paperback book is packed with facts and information that is a must to all. A true classic!

Like his other books by master teacher Richard Zarro, this is a welcome addition to anyone's library.
