Even though this book is some 15 years old at this point, the points it makes are timeless. It goes beyond describing international
protocol. It tells all the steps to negotiating business deals, setting up contracts, marketing, etc. It is a first rate
book.

IBM used to distribute writing pads with adages and proverbs at the bottom, so perhaps it is not surprising that Per Haldbo,
a longtime IBMer, bases his book on sayings which, not unlike military commands, offer an effective way to instruct others
or guide oneself in business.
The author puts across the message that it pays to pay a lot of attention to how you behave in business, and the book, which is well organized, covers many aspects of the subject. Mr. Haldbo argues well for his conviction that we will all benefit if everybody behaves well. His advice in this era of huge corporate scandals originating in executive greed could hardly be more timely.
"Gold Nuggets Galore," written in a no-nonsense style, is easy to read, easy to understand, and at times hard to forget. Sometimes the author gives advice which, I am sure, will strengthen the conviction of those who have already chosen the moral path. And sometimes he draws attention to aspects of good behavior that may have been overlooked or neglected during one's career climb.
One of the book's virtues is that you can read it a section at a time, and refer back to it at your leisure.
"Gold Nuggets Galore" is definitely recommended reading for young businesspersons, and in fact for anyone who aspires to positions of authority because it is full of tips on management. It will help those so preoccupied with getting the facts right that they give too little consideration to how they should behave. I wish the book had been available years ago -- it could have boosted my own career.

Just the book for everyone you know who has ever thought of playing the game of golf. This sport is about skill and mental
focus, but the etiquette of golf is something equally as important and which few of us pay the proper respect. Written in
a simple style, the graphics made me smile and sometimes laugh out loud. But the information is key. The perfect gift book
for every library.

Good Daily Practices: Not Etiquette, Not Manners, Just Good Daily Practices is an easy-to-follow guide to simple practices
of common courtesy that show respect for one's fellow human beings and ease interpersonal communication. Good Daily Practices
surveys a wide number of beneficial habits to adopt for daily life, from useful talking and listening techniques ("Avoid talking
about your health problems. Few other people will find them as interesting as you do") to gracious dining tips ("If in doubt
about which utensils to use, watch others") to good telephone practices ("For a business call, there is never a time when
you should not tell the person who answers the phone who you are, what company you represent, and why you are calling. That
information must be the first thing out of your mouth") tipping habits ("Airports: If you use the skycaps to check your luggage
at the curb, tip them $1 per bag"), and much more. A brief but solid primer to the most basic of positive social graces, highly
recommended.

I bought this book because I saw Jaymz Bee on a late night NBC news show. He reminded me of a (better looking) Austin Powers.
The book was much more of an information guide than I thought. I actually use the book regularly, and it's helped me select
great movies, music and of course cocktails for my get togethers. It's way hipper than Martha Stewart, unbelievably detailed
and a totally fun read. I've enjoyed every dummies book that I've bought, but this is my fave!

Marden takes the time to define what good manners really are and why they are so important - not just to do well in business
but to gain respect for yourself as well as from others. It may seem a bit dated to the modern day reader but the principles
contained within are timeless and as true today as they ever were!

Useful book on "good-byes"

Photographs of children and brief text illuminate many different situations in which people say good-bye to each other.
The simple text and photos of ordinary situations express the idea that saying good-bye is a normal part of life even though some good-byes can be emotionally difficult. The authors show that even people we say good-bye to permanently can be remembered and that most good-byes are temporary. Because the book discusses different types of good-byes in a matter-of-fact, simple way, even very young children and children in different situations will relate to the ideas expressed. While the book lends itself more to individual use, the photos are large enough and the text brief enough to use with groups. While there are many good books on death and moving, there is a lack of books on just saying "good-bye." This book certainly helps fill the void.

Goop Tales are tales of misbehaving children. The first book was published in 1904 by the Frederick A Stokes company. They
are very entertaining and my mother and I were raised with this thin book of children's manners. Some are outdated for this
time, but currently I am using it with my two small girls, and I must say, they take most stories to heart, no one wants to
be a goop.
