Written by Andrew Macbeth (rector of the Calvary Church in Memphis, Tennessee), Dearly Beloved: Navigating Your Church Wedding is a no-nonsense guide to planning and navigating one's marriage ceremony. Chapters discuss what to expect from a marriage service, things to keep in mind when dealing with everything from wedding photography to common traditions and superstitions to money and legal matters, and much more. Of especial interest is the final chapter discussing unusual and nontraditional weddings, including same-sex marriages, divorced persons who are remarrying, and couples of widely different ages. Regarding same-sex unions, "In my opinion, a public blessing ceremony held in the church needs to have the support of a comfortable majority of the congregation's members if it is to be meaningful. I understand whatever authority I have to pardon or to bless as flowing from the community that ordained and called me. If you are the first to seek such a public service blessing in a particular congregation, expect to take part in a (possibly lengthy) process of seeking support, first from the congregation's vestry and then perhaps from the congregation as a whole." Though the author speaks from an Episcopalian Christian perspective, Dearly Beloved offers frank and honest advice to readers of all religious backgrounds including agnostics and freethinkers. Enthusiastically recommended for anyone planning a wedding.

An Indispensable Resource For Every Style of Address!
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2005-11-16
This volume is a revision of the 1999 edition of "Correct Form," drawing upon Patrick-Montague-Smith's earlier work.

Due to the fact that the British system of titles and forms of address is notoriously complex and a minefield for the unititiated, this book is a necessity.

The role of this book is to explain the proper forms of address for all kinds of social and business situations and across a spectrum of people from peers to Presidents. There is advice on how to address members of the Royal Family, church, armed forces, academic, medical, and legal professions and on more arcane matters such as precedence.

Even to those already familiar with the how-to and the how-not-to, forms of address modify as social customs alter, for instance, the more modern trend of women choosing to use their maiden or professional name.

The text, at great length, shows the reader just how judicious use of "Correct Form" will improve and enlighten anyone seeking access to a guide which details the form and address for all people in every situation, including the use of electronic mail.

A must have. Without hesitation or reservation five stars.

A Very Clever, Universally-Appealing Story!
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.

Every child and parent will relate to this darling book! A little boy wants to behave, but is carried away by impulses that seem beyond his control. Who hasn't experienced the "sloggies," the "squirmies," and the "peskies?" What an imaginative way to educate kids and grown-ups about universal children's behaviors and their consequences, as well as loving ways to handle them. Linda Ashman has written some of our family's favorite books (CASTLES, CAVES AND HONEYCOMBS is a classic!) and we were delighted to discover another winner by this talented author.

Great help in all the essentials
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.

This book is easy to read, easy to use, and easy to understand. It is a complete run down of all the necessary details and nicities to make for a wonderful, memorable wedding. She is not overbearing on the etiquette aspect of a wedding, but gently and kindly explains the effects of doing things in a "proper" way. I have enjoyed reading this and have found it enormously helpful. I would suggest this as the first place to go for wedding advice.

Manners taught by Goofy & Mickey!
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 1998-11-19
Heedless of adolescence, my children will huddle up to share The Disney Book of Elegant Manners when I read it to my much younger nieces -- who clamor for it whenever they visit. Clever and thought provoking, this book gives you the chance to visit with children about the "why" of manners and makes it fun. The illustrations are captivating and employ all the esteemed Disney characters (of old, that is!) and the manners are instructed in verse.

I really thought this book is aborable. Not only me but more importantly our kids. As wonderfully cute as the Winnie the Pooh characters are, the book lends itself to the same. The simple everyday life of Pooh and his friends leads them into everyday situations that cause us to use are manners. I, we recommend this book highly.

A Tiny Book so you don't make Big Mistakes
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2002-09-29
This is a book about the do's and don'ts of behaviour on the golf course and in the clubhouse. There is guidance for every situation you could imagine.

This tiny book fits nicely into a leather cover so you can keep it in your golf bag.

"There can be few things more irritating, and at times even infuritating, for a golfer than to find his game ruined by thougtless and ignorant behavior by other players on the course."

Simple things like picking up your broken tee sound logical, but then again there are still people who toss trash from their cars. So, you just never know.

Very Matter-of-Fact style. This is just what
is expected.

Letting faster players move ahead of your group, being aware of time-saving-tips (like removing gloves while walking) will keep the game moving smoothly along.

The section on taking care of the course was informative. Simple things like raking away footprints helps the next golfer if their golf ball happens to rest in the exact spot where you just walked.

Helpful tips like protecting your set of golf clubs while travelling abroad and taking the proper clothes for various
weather conditions helps to protect you and your
investment.

Great Travel Book To Keep You Out of TROUBLE!!!
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2004-03-06
Five stars to Roger Axtell and John Healy. I highly recommend this book if you ever travel to Asia, Europe, Canada, Middle East, or Latin America.

I read this book from the front cover to the back cover in one evening. The author has also written "Traveling Cautions for Dictator Country", in addition to "Fun Fun Fun In Bangkok", also great books.

He provides great checklists that will help you keep out of trouble when authorities demand bribes or magazines that are illegal in their countries. One hint, also carry five recent copies of Pent house.

Of particular note is his advise on what to do if you lose your passport, credit cards, or phone card. He suggests locations where you can get exact duplicates in 'other names' so that you can have a very expensive vacation on someone else's account.

Details are given for Senior Citizens for saving space in luggage for packing Depends by using space saving bags that are sold in major warehouse type stores (Costco, Sam's Club).

I really enjoyed the section on how to insult different cultures. Most useful for getting off on the right foot.

Photos of different toilets around the world are chronicled including the sit and squat over a hole method in much of Asia. Some of the pictures were disgusting but humorous at the same time. Emile who is a clean freak would go nuts and not even enter some of these restrooms. Each countries rest rooms are rated.

Instructions for bypassing local telephone controls are included that will save on your travel and communicate dollars to make inexpensive (as in free) call around the world.

Hats off to this author!
