I own the "Family Virtues Guide" which lists 52 virtues and how you and your family can discuss and apply them to your lives. It uses quotes from all major religions and is very spiritually based. This book on the other hand also has 52 virtues but is more secular and adaptable for the general public. It has a great introduction to speaking the language of virtues instead of using criticism to change behavior and encourages you to learn this new habit. It also has ideas on classroom or entire school projects to encourage the use of your virtues. Each virtue has an explanation, why we should practice it?, how to practice it?, life examples of what the virtue would look like, signs of successs, an affirmation, activities, reflection questions, poster points and quotes. This is a great book for individuals, families and groups and it's not just for children. It's just a helping hand in creating a 'culture of character'.

I cannot say enough about the beauty and vast amount of information in this book. It is very aesthetically pleasing and would make the finest coffee table book with its colorful pictures and glossy pages. However, the book is also a wonderful resource as well giving history, anecdotes, and how-to information about the weddings of this most romantic of eras. Any Victorian buff or bride-to-be or lovers of good taste and form would LOVE this book. It is definitely one to buy!

This book gave me the insight to prepare my wedding with the Master of Ceremonies in an organized fashion. The result! It was everything I could have asked for, including all of the toasts...so thoughtful and sincere. If you are getting married and you have an MC or a best man, this book is essential to their success. Best of luck to you in your marriage and best wishes for your successful reception! cheers.

I was recently asked to MC my first wedding reception, and I didn't know where to start. Good thing I found this book, as it really helped me to prepare for the reception, and ensured that I did not omit any key elements. After the reception, the feedback I got from the audience was flattering, and I have already received requests to MC more weddings! I couldn't have done it without the book and recommend it to anyone who has been requested to be a wedding MC.

(We own several "We both read" books, and this review pertains to ALL of them...)
This line of books is fantastic! My son still enjoys being read to, but also wants to read on his own (and sometimes gets 'bored' with the simpler story lines in the early readers). This is the perfect solution. The books have engaging storylines, but with simpler text on the pages that the kids read (exactly how simple depends on the level of the book--they range from "K-K1" to "2"). I've found them to be pretty accurate in terms of level--a level 1-2 is for a child reading at a high [...], beginning [...] level.

I've noticed a great improvement in the amount of expression my son puts into reading since picking up these books. The more expression I put into my page, the more he puts into his--especially the 2nd and 3rd times through the books. It also seems to be something he's taking with him while reading other things now.

We have quite a few of the level 1 and level 1-2 books--they are longer in length (seem to average about 40 pages, so 20 for the adult and 20 for the child) and might be frustrating for kids that aren't used to reading that much in one sitting--however, the pictures and text are engaging enough that my son didn't *want* to stop reading. I'd highly recommend going to the "we both read" website and glancing through the books to determine which level is best for your child--and also which subject matter. My son perfers fiction to non-fiction any day of the week :) At this point, it's just about getting him to read, so I'm not going to force the issue.

One last note, the illustrations are great (vibrant colors--and the kids can pick up visual clues for times when they stumble with the words) and the books are printed on durable paper--these are great quality, especially for the price. I can't believe more people don't know about these books--I think they would benefit so many young readers! My son adores them, too, and requests at *least* one of these books every night before bed and often brings me one or two throughout the day. Books we *both* enjoy--what a concept :)

I did not realize the history of eating utensils was so interesting. I did become intrigued when I lived in Thailand and learned to eat their way with a fork and spoon or watched Europeans with their forks and knives. I am still not good at eating sticky rice and accompanying dishes with my hand. My favorite situation was watching Thais describe the way Chinese eat with chopsticks. The Thai think that the way Chinese eat is barbaric. Little do they know that most Americans think they eat with chopsticks too!

Gave my kids a new appreciation for utensils

This book takes a humorous, illustrated look at the history of eating habits. It educates, while simultaneously poking fun at ancient and modern affectations associated with the dinner table. It starts and ends with a primitive family who are just beginning to make use of fire.

It gives brief descriptions of eating customs and utensils in different cultures over the centuries. The evolving dining and feasting customs of medeval Europe are particularly amusing. Children will have a new appreciation for their spoons, knives and even forks after reading the author's amusing take on their introduction into our popular use.

This is a book that was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone in our family--from the six-year-old to the adults.

We first found this book at our local library. My son loved it so much that we sought out his own copy. It is a very cute story, and easy to read. There's the melodic rhythm, combined with repetion and rhyming, it soon became a favorite in our household. It is illustrated beautifully as well. We read it almost every night. We have also read "Bed Hog" and loved it just as much. I look forwarding to adding other books by this author to our collection.

When Isaac invites the Moon to be his guest at his Aunt Fay and Uncle Snog's house, the luminary guest arrives as the largest, rudest visitor anyone has ever met! After putting his stinky-socked feet on the table, sampling everyone else's dinner, and blowing his nose on the tablecloth, Isaac finally has ask the Moon to leave. That's when poor Mr. Moon admits he had never been asked to dinner before and didn't know what to do. Isaac offers to teach Mr. Moon how to behave and this unique and remarkable picturebook story ends with Uncle Snog remarking as to how Mr. Moon had so improved into being a lovely guest that perhaps they should invite the Sun to breakfast! Highly recommended for family, school, and community library collections, Who Asked The Moon To Dinner? is a thoroughly charming story by Joe Murray, whose accompanying art work also features a "glow in the dark" cover!

The MOON Is A Wonderful Guest For Children!

"Who Asked the MOON to Dinner?" is a brilliantly illustrated and instructive tale of the consequences of a little boy asking the MOON to dinner. It is no surprise that the creator of this sensitive, beautiful children's book is also the creator of an Emmy-Award winning animated children's series.

Each page is a work of art, filled with eye-popping, colorful, original characters. The MOON is a great character for children, and my grandchildren loved this book. As a grandfather and a writer, I am delighted with the subtle, positive messages that are expressed in the story. It shows the importance of taking responsibility for one's actions. It also illustrates the role of good manners in life, as realized by the main character. While only a short story, it is rich with positive, natural examples for children.

Joe Murray brings the MOON and other characters to life on every page, including the cover, which glows in the dark! As a grandfather, this book is now a part of my developing repertory of stories for my grandchildren. Thank you, Joe Murray. What will the MOON do next?

This book is just what America needs! Manners seem to be more and more forgotten every day. I was skeptical upon purchasing this book because even though you can read book after book on parenting, actually getting the kids to change can be the problem. My 3 kids actually love learning the manners in this book. She has suggestions on how to make it fun that really work. I have recommended this book to many friends. Don't even hesitate on buying this book!

There are many reference books on the market these days, some people might even say too many. However, I must say that Gail Hamilton's book "1001 Ways to Say Thank You" is one book that everyone can use. Have you ever wanted to write a note, be it apology, condolence, or a thank you note? If so, look no further; this book will come to your rescue. When it comes to writing thank you notes, everyone gets bogged down with what and how to say it. This book is broken down into easy-to-find categories with several options to pick from.

If you want to write an apology note, for example, the author has broken this section down into what types of apologies. You could be apologizing for not attending a function, your behavior, you forgot something or you're just sorry for your actions.

Hamilton also gives several pointers, for example be prompt. You should send out a note within two to three days after you receive something from an individual or a company, or when a friend takes you out for a nice dinner. If someone gave you a gift you should send a note within two weeks. Lastly, if you are sending a thank you note because someone sent you a note expressing sympathy, you have up to six week to reply.

If you don't know where to start, that's no problem. The author's book even gives you some sample letters to help you out. One point the author makes is that "a sincerely expressed thank you note can be a very powerful thing." I know this myself, my wife is very good at sending out thank notes, and I am amazed at the responses we get back from people. I have found that most people are surprised when they receive a thank you note. It shows them that you truly cared enough to write to them. A sincerely written note means so much more than a telephone call or a text message.

Gail Hamilton set out to write a book that can be helpful to the general public, and I have to say that she did a great job. The next time you need to write a thank you note and you're stuck, head straight to "1001 Ways to Say Thank You." I highly recommend this book to everyone; whether you're an individual or a business this is a must have.
