She covers EVERYTHING. I think it will take more than 6 weeks though! I love how the book is divided into 2 parts - the first part being for the parent. She really does cover everything, not just table manners. I wish everyone, with or without children, would read this book.

I don't even have kids and I loved it!

This is a delightful book. I got it for a friend who has four children and read it through before giving it as a gift. It is thoughtful, engaging, humorous, and filled with the importance of communicating love when teaching children. It seems sometimes it's almost a lost concept into today's world to instill kids with the understanding that we do not wish offend others intentionally and so we must consider our behavior! I gave it to my friend with confidence that she would find it helpful and informative.

I worked at a fledgeling Internet Service Provider in the mid-90's. This was the first book my boss gave me. It was honestly the best primer I had for business and customer service EVER. If any part of your business involves dealing with the customer over the phone OR in person, this book is fantastic. I swear I'm not a plug review. I don't know the authors. I don't even think it's in print anymore. It really *is* my favorite book. I'm about to buy the last 10 copies I can find for the big company I currently work for. They're going to complain about not being able to get it in bulk, but them's the breaks. It's my favorite.

Fantastic for companies that need training on phone etiqutte

If your deparment or organization deals with different types of customers, this book is great. It has tips you can actually use in a call center enviroment. No fluffy stuff and no bull. Useful information that can be applied to almost every call. It's a great book to buy for all employees who will be dealing with internal and external customers over the phone.

Once again the School Library Journal has given a negative review to
a book within the Advocacy series by the MarshMedia Press. They phone
this in with every book that is published in the series. However,
there is now over 20 books so someone must be enjoying them and finding
them useful. I am one of those.

I am a collector of children's books, most typically of the picture book
age group. This series is usually for the older end of that age group
and beyond. However, I became attracted to it because I love books
that present the landscape, architecture, and culture of different countries. Each book in this series takes place in a very distinct
locale. Most are from foreign countries, a few are in US cities such as
Boston and New Orleans. There are a few "misses" but most do a wonderful
job of depicting the locale. This book is particularly wonderful at it,
with page after page of a very Chinese setting.

For other users, each book has an ethical/moral reason for being. When I
want to teach my two grandchildren who are in this age group a particular
lesson I tend not to rely on a typical picture book story that may have an
ethic wrapped around it. Sometimes they "get it," sometimes not. These
books point it out and then have pointers for the teachers/parents/readers
to make sure that the child did in fact "get it." If this is didactic,
so be it. It does what it sets out to do. For those interested, teacher-
type guides and multimedia kits are available for each book. I have never
seen them so cannot speak to the effectiveness.

In addition to the moral of the story, there is more information on the
inside covers of the book and the back pages. In this instance, there
are paragraphs on the Moon Festival, Chinese Names, the People's Republic
of China as a country, Chinese Writing and Language, plus more. These
books are for those who want more than entertainment or a good story.
These books for those who are interested in having their children become
more intellectual and ethical.

I haven't seen any new books within this series recently. I hope it does not mean that it is done. I have 21 of the books and I am ready
to buy more, if they are available.

Moon Festival information and sharing lesson all in one.

I recently read "Thank You Meiling" to my third grade class after reading Amy Tan's, "Moon Lady". The text was easy for them to understand. It blended a story about a duck who needed to learn how to share and information about the Chinese celebration of Moon Festival. It kept their interest and also informed without being just "factual". I am going to purchase a few copies to present as gifts to our daughter's teachers each year during autumn (Moon Festival time).

The number of stars this book deserves is as countless! "They Didn't Use Their Heads" was first published in 1960, and my mother gave it to me as a gift in 1964, when I was seven years old. Throughout the years, I've often reflected on this book--pondering its simple, yet profound, lessons and wondering if I'd ever find it again. Well, in the *infinite* wisdom of the publisher, it's back! The true pricelessness of this beautifully illustrated book is that it speaks to children of *all* ages: Its lessons will remain with you always. This book is a treasure and should be hardbound and displayed proudly on your bookcase among your other prized literature. Better yet, place it conspicuously on your coffee table for visitors to read: People are never too young nor too old to learn... and to grow... and, well, maybe even to "use their heads"...

A learning tool through adulthood. Helps mold character.

LOVE IT - LOVE IT - LOVE IT!!!!
This book has it all. This book teaches consequence as well as morality; it then shows an alternate solution to a bad/or thoughtless decision. It does all of these things in a very child friendly manner in a way that children can relate to and understand very easily.

Since I grew up reading this book, I know first hand that it helped mold the person I am today. I still had my original hard cover copy that my mom used to read us, until I recently lost it in a move. I was heartbroken, I wanted my future children to benefit from this book like I did.

I was estatic when I found it on Amazon. I not only bought 2 for myself to save for when I have kids but I buy one for any baby shower attend. I think this book is a must have for any child! I know my children will benefit from this book.

I was in charge of planning a large (100+ guests) event for my parents' 50th anniversary, and I was a nervous wreck. This book gave me all kinds of tips that saved me money, helped me choose the right entertainment and venue, and made me look good. I got all kinds of compliments on what a great job I did with the party, and everything mentioned, from the table settings to the music, were ideas I got from this book. I'd definitely recommend it!

This is exactly the book I have been looking for - it covers everything from guest lists to budgets, hiring caterers & bands to decorating and menu ideas. The whole thing is presented in an organized, logical way with a hip, lively attitude. It is great for novice entertainers but still very pertinent for experienced hosts and hostesses. I especially liked the creative tips to add that little something extra - as well as the additional resources with each chapter. I am working on organizing a graduation party for my daughter - and now I have the extra confidence I needed. Thanks Heather Hutchins!

As a teen, growing up can seem like it takes a lifetime. Every moment of every day is either completely chaotic or dreadfully boring. You never know what you are going to get. From perfect poise to face shapes, from enlightining and shocking stories to the facts and consequences about premarital sex; Murphy's book has helped me in so many ways. Shopping is so much easier knowing my "season" and "clothing personality." The quizzes are short, easy and simple, yet so informative and shockingly accurate. After reading this book I can confidantly say that I am an all-around better person inside and out, in the world's eyes and most importantly in God's eyes. GET THIS BOOK!!!!!!!

Japan

Japan: No physical contact in greeting. For an informal greeting use a short nod. Now matter how many times you meet a person in a day make sure to bow. Topics to avoid: your profession, economics, comparision between countries, and prices. Japanese believe they are following the right way. Japanese people will want to practice their English in conversations, but if you have trouble communicating write down your question. Japanese are very pleased, if visitors are aware of the culture and customs. If you visit a Budhist temple make sure to take off your shoes, don't walk infront of the priests, don't sit on religious statutes, remove hats at shrines, never step on a tatami mat, and be careful not to touch a Japanese back or head. To say no, wave your hand back and forward infront of your nose. To attract someone's attention, hold your palm down and move it up and down. In Japan it is consider rude to approach a person aggressively while shopping and never attempt to bargin in a shop. Japanese consider it rude to count change in front of them. For business wear a suite and tie and conservative colors and many restaurants require a jacket. Never fold the right side of the Kimono over the left, never leave stabbed chopsticks into the food, instead, place the chopsticks at the top of the bowl when finished. Tipping is virtually unknown in Japan. At a persons home plan on spending the visit in a special room for visitors. When visiting a home with a garden don't use it for sunbathing or recreation. Bring small gifts, Japanese are embarrassed by big and expensive gifts. Japanese love chocolates.

Fantastic all-in-one guide to Asian customs

I purchased an earlier edition of this book back in the late eighties, and since then have referred to it time and time again prior to traveling to an Asian country for the first time. The book covers almost all Asian countries from Japan to India, and for the most part has been right on the money in its descriptions of the countries where I have worked or visited (Korea, Thailand, Phillipines, China, Australia). A chapter is devoted to each country with sections covering public/private behavior, meals, table manners, general business practices, etc. There are lists of dos and don'ts for the reader to follow, and advice on hotels, restaurants, tipping, transportation, and dress as well. It makes for interesting reading on different cultures even if one does not intend to travel to Asia anytime in the near future. Although whole books could easily be written on this topic for each country, this one covers the most important items in a well-organized manner.
