Common-sense e-mail sales advice
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2008-02-15
Obviously, e-mail has changed how people work and communicate. In addition to fighting for a reader's attention, salespeople also must hope that their e-mail messages arrive in the right in-boxes, dodge the junk mail and spam filters, and attract their recipients. Stephan Schiffman shares common-sense advice about using e-mail as part of the sales process, rather than as a replacement for any other sales step. His short chapters deliver one or two main points for Internet-speed absorption and application. getAbstract recommends this book to the busy salesperson who wants to pick up needed tips with a minimal investment of time.

This is NOT a book about e-mail selling

I am very dissapointed and angry about this book. I grabbed the book with me to last of my numerous trips on airplanes, and finished in just in 2 hours. I want to write this review, so you do not make a mistake in buying this.
First of all this book has nothing to do with e-mail selling techniques, as you would want to see from such a misleading cover. In fact, author, who claims to be as a Nr.1 business coach, and just can not stop saying this throughout the book, HATES e-mails.
I am sorry here to say, but as all older people, author starts the book wiht a words like "ehh... when I was here, when I did sales, when back then... when back then.. all was better, grass was more green, and the woman was more kind and sugar was more sweet". It is apparently, that life has changed, and as much author would like it, he was forced to write something about the topic, and he did, if he want to still be in his training business. So, what the book is about?

Author is trying to explain you why selling by e-mail DOES NOT works, and that you need to use the e-mail guess for what?
For setting up the meeting in live. Even more - he is still trying to promote his cold calling training courses, what I understand are totally loosing the popularity, so Mr. Schifmann is doing all to keep it.
So, if you need to know how to use e-mail to set up the meeting with your customer - go on. Buy the book.
But I guess you want use e-mails for selling in web 2.0 era -then this book is NOT for you.

I want in addition give you a ridiculous quote from this book.

" It (e-mail) is not a best tool for initiating relationship, although it can serve for this purpose ocassionally (just author has no idea how to do it - cold calling oh yeah, but this nooo).
And now:

When was the last time you actually built up a meaningful business relationship based o e-mail you rceived on somebody you did not know.

Now, author, go out of your old fashion suit, and come to reality.

- 90 % of China & Taiwan factories are getting a new customers by sending e-mails daily to every e-mail they find in internet;
- I know personally a numerous new China businessman, who got customers for next 2 years just by such spam for 1 month work;
- Our one of my friends supplier found a components supplier who sent them "spam" 4 years ago, and till now they placed them orders for more than 10M USD.

Wake up. It's 2008, author

Please Try Another Book - Bad

I am a user of Outlook 2000/2003/2007 and this book has MANY short falls. The examples to follow sometimes don't start at the beginning of the process. Examples should start at the beginning: File, New, Folder... In this book some examples start with New, Folder, missing the File command (this is just an example, not one that is actually wrong with the book). In some examples he misses the first 2 steps of a process!!!!!!!
Please look around, this book is not worth the price if you have any experience or want detailed reading of how to do a specific task. Hope this saves you some money and time.

I have only had this book for a short time but I have found it very useful. I have used Oulook in the past but this new version is much different and this guide is a big help. So far I have found the things I was looking for but the names have changed and that makes finding specific items more difficult. You may have to do some digging to locate that item you want to modify or change.

It is very well organized, easy to read, and will help if you are new to Outlook. I would reccomend this book.

Lemay's Guide to Fizzling Web Design is NOT all that...

As a paperweight, Laura Lemay's Guide to Sizzling Website Design serves a useful purpose. As a book, Laura Lemay's Guide to Sizzling Website Design serves no useful purpose and deserves no attention whatsoever. Never in all my years have I seen a book that was so full of fluff that it was little more than a dressed up magazine article.

The book is oozing with graphics, colors, and pictures, so much so that it seems the book's editor was trying to create a collage rather than a book. Beyond the poorly executed attempt to lure $49.99 out of your pocketbook with slick graphics and dizzying colors, the book has no real substance and I found it lacking at every turn. No, the $49.99 price tag for one of the shortest computer books in publishing history is not a typo--I wish it was, but it isn't.

Last year Laura Lemay pushed her name onto more books than you can shake a stick it at. Unfortunately, the vast majority of Laura Lemay Web Workshop books have consistently lacked the style and appeal that made Teach Yourself HTML a best-seller. Whatever happened to the Laura Lemay that sizzled as a writer?

This former fan of Laura Lemay books is officially tuning out and joining an ever growing number of disillusioned readers in the Ban Laura Lemay Books Club.

I have reviewed many books in my time, but none have ever caught my attention with the finnesse and style which this author has has so creatively delivered. Generally speaking, the average computer oriented book is focused to a unique market of individuals at either beginner, intermediate, or advanced levels in that particular topic. Molly Holzschlag positively has broken the mold and created her own brand of writing unlike no other to date. The book is designed in such a matter that no matter what the level of understanding by the reader in regard to knowledge of web site design, there is a literal cornacopia of knowledge awaiting them from the first moment of opening the book.

The book is laid out well with creative illustrations of a large variety of web sites for illustrative technique in helping the reader to grasp the message in the analogy. The book is structured in an orderly and yet creative manner which draws the reader to develop an intense hunger to continue on to learn even more of the many secrets hiding amongst the pages of the book.

There are vast amount of web sites featured in this book. Each web site has specific tips or technique illustrated pertaining to the site which is being discussed. I personally, have gained a new view of how my own websites can be re-designed to improve the impact or impression for those who gaze upon them. In essence, this book is a must have tool for any person involved with the web who is seeking to understand the structuring of the Internet as well as those who seek to master the usage of the web for commercial purposes.

My husband decide to help me in my new job as a Web developer. I work with HTML and JavaScript to design pages. I just got my certificate and my first job. He buy me 3 Lemay books to help me do good. All turns out to be duds. My own boss tells me to not listen to anything written in these books and to unlearn it. I want to warn others that may make the same mistake.

The author understands very little about design!

Pretty colors. Fancy pictures. Poor writing. Disastrous fluff on design that will do more harm than good.

This overpriced and poorly written book should have been summed up in about 20 pages in some other book. ie there's not much substance. The only problem is the usefulness of those 20 pages would be suspect.

If there was a redeeming quality to this book I certainly didn't find one. I suggest you save your money and spend it on something that will help you.

I have read 3 of her books, and as aforementioned by another reviewer, I have yet to find a winner. The material offered in this book is not concise, nor is it clear. I am not a newbie to web design, but I must admit I found her book to be...Hmm..."flighty". Her site for the book appears poorly designed, and I regret the hard-earned cash forked over for it, but..Live and Learn. This is the last strike. I shall not be perusing another of her attempts, regardless of the subject. My advice? Save your money. Check out "Creating Killer Websites - Second Edition" by David Siegel. Now THERE'S money well-spent!

She's not kidding! Just the Basics is what this book covers. If you're at ground ZERO in computer familiarization this book will be useful. If you want serious, in depth understanding about FTP, this book is not much help! The first 20 pages are on FTP. The remaining 75 are about e-mail. Very good for real Beginners.

I just read this book but skipped a lot of it. It's very basic and doesn't get into depth on any one subject. It covers customer targeting, marketing, basic HTML, basic search engine info, etc. If you know nothing about web sites and nothing about business, it might be worth checking it out at the library but I wouldn't pay for the book. Just when you get some information on a subject, the author moves on to something else. A book with a wide scope should be much longer than this so it can flesh out some of the details.

Needs Editing!
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-07-05
While this book is short (practically a dollar a page!!), it still would have benefitted from editing -- more accurately some proof-reading. The author is actually an editor who has compiled interviews and various point-of-view reactions to different VR scenarios and situations. The contributor SH, in particular, writes poorly with sentence fragments, incorrect grammar and odd usage (i.e. "in the other hand" instead of "ON the other hand"). While SH is perhaps a non-native English speaker, this is still unacceptable in a text format and was highly distracting and irritating. I was required to purchase this for a graduate level course and this is certainly not graduate level caliber writing. For the price, especially, this felt like a rip-off. PROOF READ!!!

Other than that, this text is OK. It is not a taxing read and offers interesting insight into VR situations and implementation.

After reading Thomas Mails' Fools Crow and Fools Crow: Wisdom and Power, I was eagerly looking forward to reading this book. Alas, I was quite disappointed. The writing style was plodding, and frankly it was often a boring read.

The information contained in this book is quite good. But Mails jumps around so much between tribes, it is difficult to follow. The book is broken into two chapters; the first is about the training of young boys to become warriors and the second is about the mature warrior.

If you are just looking for information about the life of the Plains Indians(for a term paper or you are just interested), you will probably benefit by purchasing this book. But if you are looking for a bit of excitement, I would recommend against this one.

If your looking for true WHOLESALE, don't buy this book

If you are looking for BARGAINS and you are incapable or just impatient to use a search engine like Google or Yahoo, buy this book. If you are looking to buy at WHOLESALE (as in having a re-seller's liscense as I was), DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK. The word "wholesale" was greatly misused in the title of this book and interestingly enough, when I purchased this book (thankfully on a bargain rack) at my local book store, the lady told me that the name had changed beginning in 2003.....interesting.

You can find all this on internet

This book is not for people looking for serious wholesaling.
All this information can be found by doing a search on the internet. I found very few true wholesalers. I have been able to find much better pricings at alternate sites. Find a different book to buy if you're truly looking for real wholesale companies.

I have gotten away from writting reviews, but I needed a forum to vent my dislike for this book. Fortunately for me, I borrowed a copy from the library. I cannot imagine paying anything for this book. I do not understand the point of the book. I only used listings that had websites and I found them all to charge as much as a local vendor for their products. How this is supposed to be wholesale is beyond me. For auto parts it lists only one site and they were higher than local stores. They listed a textbook selling site that supposedly charges cost, again I can do much better right here at Amazon. I was hoping to find a book telling me how to buy things at wholesale prices, then I would resell them and make extra money. This book told me how to buy things at retail prices, which I had already figured out on my own. I just cannot understand why this book was published.
