Cameron's article is well written about the dangers of phishing. Quite understandable to a general audience. But you can save yourself the cost of buying this article. If you are reading this review in a browser, then you have access to the Web. Just search for phishing and read some of the top results.

Janet Reno read your email
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-02-24
Many apologists for the Bush administration argue that warrantless wiretaps are necessary to catch terrorists. They also claim that the Clinton administration weakened America's security. If they only looked a little closer, they'd realize that Slick Willie laid the groundwork for Bush's unconstitutional violations of your privacy.

The FBI under Attorney General Janet Reno used a program called CARNIVORE to monitor internet communications. Naturally many privacy advocates recognized this as a dangerous road to go down. Rep. Bob Barr (R-GA) introduced the Digital Privacy Act of 2000, which would have made it easier to "watch the watchers". This piece of legislation would have required the Attorney General to regularly report to congress about the nature, necessity and frequency of CARNIVORE usage. Too bad it died in committee!

It is true that the CARNIVORE system isn't as bold of a violation as, say the PATRIOT Act. But let's be honest, the person intercepting your emails is no more honorable than the one who sends agents to "sneak and peak" in your apartment. Anybody looking for the golden years of privacy should look straight past the Clinton~Bush years.

It's not a bad organizer, but it could be more user friendly. It would help to have divider tabs between the different sections, or some way to immediately go to what you're looking for. As it is, you have to flip through the pages to locate a specific page. Also, the information is rather crammed together. There is more than enough room on each page to have a double column for information, and less space for notes.

I've been looking in second hand bookshops for years for this, and I finally found it a few weeks ago. I'm a bit disappointed that its not as hilarious as the subsequent "More Items from our Catalogue". I have managed to raise a few wry smiles while I read it, compared to consistently cracking up in hysterics each time I get out "More Items from our Catalogue". The author became much more creative and outrageous in the second book.

I was looking for a book on developing content, and this one happened to be laying around the house... it does cover quite a bit about focusing the newsletter around what type of target market you're going for but it does spend a bit of time talking about subscription newsletters and setting that up rather than content development.

There isn't a single aspect to email marketing that is not being covered in 'Total E-Mail Marketing'. From list building to bounce handling, from legal constraints to result tracking, Dave Chaffey covers all the subjects you would expect to find in this book. Yet, is it an engaging read? Unfortunately, it is not.

There is no doubt that Dave Chaffey is an experienced online marketing professional. And he has made an honorable attempt to compress all there is to know about email marketing into the 248 pages of this book. So if you're looking for a reference book to quickly look up what you need to know about RSS or subject line creation, then this book is the right choice for you. However, if you're looking for an all-encompassing view on selling products or services via email, then 'Total E-Mail Marketing' will probably give you a hard time. Chaffey's style does not entice the reader to think about his subject matter. Instead he keeps piling up all the material he could get a hold of - test results, reports, studies, customer feedback - without providing any overarching philosophy or strategy to follow. If email marketing was as boring as reading through this book, I don't think anyone would volunteer to do it professionally.

Mixed feelings on this one

This is a good book if you use it for a reference guide to quite a few National Parks and cities. In their many trips, the author gives quite a few details on the many parks, attractions and visitor centers they visit. Unfortunately, he does it in textbook fashion - we did this, we saw this, this park has so many acres, we ate here. He also writes alot about the weather each day. For these reasons alone, I will keep this book in my new camper to use as we set off on our upcoming trip.
But realize the book has very little by way of descriptions of these places other than facts. And very little about people other than names and who paid for each meal. His humor is very opinionated and can be mean sometimes, the one-sided political jokes wore very thin very quickly. I was hoping for more tales and less facts.

Finding Mr. Right

Review Date: 2005-08-13
Shannon Grier, a lawyer, decides to try internet dating. Her co-worker, Matthew, gives her some rules about what to do and what not to do to keep herself safe and out of trouble. Shannon, after conversing with several men over the internet, decides to break the rules. She decides to engage in deception with a rather nice man that she has talked to on the telephone and eventually meets in person. To gauge his sincerity, she adopts another persona and engages Joseph in conversation. Not realizing that some of her other rule breaking is not as easily escaped, Shannon finds herself in a great deal of difficulty with some of the men she contacts both on and off the internet.

THE WRITE1.COM is an interactive book with usable email addresses. We learn quite a bit about Shannon Grier's life through her emails, as well as the narrative. She is the sheltered daughter of very caring parents, but I found myself wondering how a thirty year old lawyer could possibly remain so disconnected from the larger world outside herself, her church and her parents. Perhaps Ms. Davis has made her a bit too naïve. Her father religiously calls her at 1 AM every morning just to make sure she is okay and both parents seem to want to keep her in a teenage mode forever. While Shannon is deeply religious and is certainly searching for a Christian man, her prayers get a bit repetitious. In my estimation, it would be enough for the reader to know that she prays without having to read every word of every prayer every time. In spite of this, the book does have suspense and would definitely interest a reader who is about to launch herself/himself into the world of internet dating. (RAW Rating: 3.5)

This book basically delivers what it promises to. Lots of somewhat dry facts about how a small Internet business boomed into one of the hottest "sites" available.

I am a big Ebay fan. I wanted to find out more about the people who created Ebay but also wanted to get a feel for the direction these people were hoping to guide the future of the site to.

Although I thought the story was fairly interesting, this book was very dryly written. Not much was cited other than the absolute bare bones facts and the writing was not particularly interesting.

While I realize this is a business book, I think there was much room for interesting tidbits, advice or funny stories. None here. Too bad...

A poor read

This book is basically a series of quoted and sited magazine articles hastily cobbled together into a book. The only "real" interviews done by the author are with a few eBay customers who use the site. The author admits no one with eBay granted him an interview or let him in the building. For a much better story of how eBay came to be, read eBoys by Robert Stross.

This book gives an overview of ebay's creation and why it has been a success. It gives no insider insights however. It was fun to read but I did not learn much from it. This book does not have substance.

The author "gets" eBay. Unfortunately, he was not granted interviews or access to eBay people. As a result, the book is little more than a collection of articles from the Industry Standard, Fast Company abd the like. Furthermore, the book covers eBay until December 1999 or Q1 2001 at most. Back then, it looked like Yahoo! had a business model, remember? And yes, the author contemplates the possibility of a Yahoo! takeover (which was possible) and even the ridiculous idea that eBay should perhaps create its own "portal" in order to grow... Not worth the money. Buy "The Perfect Store" by Adam Cohen instead.

Dull book with little information

If you have no idea what Internet is and have never seen ebay web site then you might learn something from this book. But for an average Internet-savvy person it offers little to nothing. There is a lengthy description of well-know information (like terms of sale of ebay) and constant selling of ebay business model: nothing you can't read elsewhere.

This is a very interactive book! It combines an entertaining story and an introduction to the internet. We also enjoyed the links to an interactive website explaining how the internet works! Children can also send e-mail to the three main characters in the book, Chi Chi, Chiklet, and Charlie.

The first intelligent book about chihuahuas!

I was so very disappointed in this book! I thought it might be a great book to use in my kindergarten classroom since I have a chihuahua.

WRONG!!!

I was extremely UNimpressed with the book. First off the illustrations are all heavy black line drawing which aren't particularly attractive.

Secondly of the six e-mail messages which are exchanged between the dogs, three of them deal with "poo", "potty", "piddle", "wee wee", "tinkled", "poop"....shall I go on?? Not really appropriate for a group of children.

And thirdly it details how the "Dad" rubbed one dog's nose "in it". Again, not really appropriate.

There is no way I would read this book to a group of children. I was really disappointed. I'm really careful about what I bring into my classroom and this book won't go there.
