Great for using my e-mail while traveling! A must!

Have you ever felt out of touch with friends and family while on the road, but the time difference and the cost of calling made it difficult for you to make contact? Well, this book is for you! It saved me a fortune on a recent trip to Southern California where I used this book to find out where I could access my e-mail while traveling. When I signed up for my free traveltales.com e-mail account, listed in the book, I was able to send and receive mail with all of my friends and family! I took the book along, which was pocket sized, and as I traveled I found local cybercafes and enjoyed my e-mail while I had a cup of coffee or my lunch. It is so much better, cheaper, and faster than making long distance calls to each person and keeping track of the time differences. In the course of my lunch, I was able to send letters and read updates from friends and family, as well as keep in touch with my business contacts! And, my e-amil address book is stored on my account! Nothing like a little Latte and Letters! This is the wave of the future!

I love the style of this novel. Fun but not too "fluffy". A great book club selection. So many women can relate to the variety of issues presented. I'm waiting for her next book!

Power in the details - a great book club selection!

Deanna Kent-McDonald has written an amazing and unique first novel. Set in modern times and told through a contemporary blend of e-mail, memory and conversation, "West Wind, North Chatter" speaks to all North American women as they struggle with the questions of independence, marriage, children and friendship. Most impressive is Kent-McDonald's laser-eyed perception...subtle observations of people and their eccentricities, and how past experiences and memories boomerang back into one's life. And all these elements and characters link together to create a very real, engaging whole. At times laugh-out-loud funny, at times heart-wrenching...a perfect book to share with your female friends.

My daughter gave me this book as a Christmas gift. She has been living in Grand Prairie for about 18 months now, having married someone from there. I found the book unique in it's approach by using e-mails here and there throughout the story to introduce different characters to the reader. She describes Emily's day to day activites with such detail that one gets a very good idea of her life and all she is going through. It was most interesting to me, knowing that my daughter is a new Grand Prairie resident and how different she finds some things in her new community. I think the author deserves congratulations for a great job on her first novel and I am looking forward to reading her next one!!

A heartwarming story of a woman starting over

While at first the format of the book was a little confusing (with dated emails and letters that appeared more by order of relevance than in chronology), after a bit I began to understand and the characters unfolded. The interesting thing about this book is that, while the characters are regular people with ordinary lives, I became engrossed in what was happening and what the reactions of the characters would be. Call it akin to the trend in reality television, but maybe it is actually deeper in that, it is resfreshing to read a story with regular life taking place. There is so much in our current world to be stressed about, I felt somehow soothed in reading the story of Emily Reeves. There is also something to be said for the story of a thirty-something woman going through pregnancy, miscarriage and divorce all while starting a business and maintaining solid family ties and friendships which appeals to me. Even if you just read this for fun, the warmth of the story will come through.

This cybercafe guide is so wonderful for traveling! I took this compact book with me while on the road recently and found it very useful. It saved me a fortune in long distance calls that I would have otherwise had to make. I loved being able to keep in touch without having to worry about time zones. It was so easy to find the cafes by using the information listed. I was able to combine breakfast with keeping in touch with my family and the office. I also met some great locals! I'm taking it with me to Europe this summer for sure!

Good for travelers but not RV's

I should have read the reviews better. This is not meant for people touring with RV's. One problem is that is catagorized by country then city. When we are pulling a trailer across country, we want to start with the geographical area at the state level (or smaller) then the town. Also only about 54 pages (of 308) are for sites in the US. That's a lot of pages an RVer will probably not us. In my other life I travel a lot worldwide. This book would be very useful for that situation.
