I have done a thorough revision of this book and found it accurate, updated and very useful for teachers, students, business professionals and others. It will surprise many readers to learn about unsuspected websites and sources of the weirdest information. This book is simply a tool to help us, interested in the Hispanic world, learn, surf and gain access to a huge mine of resources. As happen with other technology books, this one needs to be updated frequently, due to the proliferation of new websites, while other sites are shut down. An overall positive outlook.

Peterson's usually excellent college guide has become better than ever after I obtained a little known but trailblazing book on the significance to America of higher education called "West Point" by Norman Thomas Remick. EVERY college seeker and parent should read it before attempting to decide on a college. It's critical to enabling you avoid making a mistake that could change your life. It adds much more value to the great college guides such as "Peterson's 4 Year Colleges 2002". You'll feel much more informed, comfortable, and confident of your decisions.

Very comprehensive guide to colleges, with lots of information. I highly recommend it.

2005: I have 2 daughters in high school and we've all ready begun our college/university search. Seems like anytime we have a question about ANY school, this book is the first thing we pick up and open. "Peterson's" guide is proven invaluable in our quest for finding the 'right' school. 6 pounds make this book an armful to carry. 3091 pages of super fine paper (careful - they tear easily). A computer CD also accompanies the book with more in-depth college info. I like this book for several reasons. #1 - lots of colleges (2000+), with all/most major univerisities in every state included; #2 - arranged several different ways, alphabetical, by state, by major - thus making it easier to narrow down the choices; #3 - when looking up a specific school you'll find right under the school name a short paragraph with all pertinent info (tuition & fees, average test scores required, difficulty level to get in, campus setting, majors & minors, etc). What follows usually includes info on campus life, extra-curricular activities, the Greek system, and history of the school... and so much more. This book also contains phone #'s and e-mail addresses of the necessary contacts (admissions dept) at each school. Truly a great find if you're just starting your search on colleges.

FREE STUFF FOR COLLECTORS ON THE INTERNET is the greatest little addition to my book collection! It gives me much better matches than the search engines for whatever I'm seeking. I can't believe how much time it has saved me in the few short months I've had it. I keep it right next to the computer & I highly recommend it for other collectors & Internet surfers.

FREE STUFF FOR HOME REPAIR ON THE INTERNET is the latest and... for the home repair buff... perhaps the greatest addition to Heim & Hansen's "Free Stuff" series.    The strength of this book lies in both its organization and in its great web links. They don't make the assumption that their readers are computer geeks, so the book begins with a short-but-sweet primer on how to access web pages, basic use of the web browser and how to understand a websites address, or "url". This alone is worth the price of the book for the befuddled neophyte... especially on sites that frequently change their page addresses!

The meat of the book... home repair web links... is well organized and divided up into 22 categories, including how to hire a contractor, roof and gutter repair, do-it-yourself TV show websites and even electrical and plumbing advice. Each section covers the best of the best... no mean task considering that a web search on any home repair topic can yield millions of useless, unrelated pages!

All in all, this book is the best of the genre and will save the surfer hours of useless searching for the best in home repair.

IF YOU LOVE FRANCE YOULL LOVE THIS BOOK

Sheldon Rampton is best known for the 3 books he co-authored in 1995-2001: Toxic Sludge Is Good For You; Mad Cow USA; and, Trust Us, We're Experts, and as editor of PR Watch. But this was his first book written in the mid-1980s, and should be considered a valuable collectors item. Its a beautiful collaboration between Rampton and photojournalist Liz Chilsen, a how-to book for building people-to-people "sister city" relationships among citizens in the US and Nicaragua, then under attack by the Reagan Admininstration's proxy terrorist army, the Contra. The Contra were in fact led by former members of the dictator Somoza's brutal National Guard resurrected with US money and weapons and CIA direction as "freedom fighters" to (successfully) destroy the Sandinista Revolution. (A chapter in Toxic Sludge examines the US propaganda strategies in the US and in Central Americar.) This is an inspiring "how-to" book for anyone trying to figure out what can be done at the local and personal level to promote peace and understanding between the US and the third world. The prose is informative and the pictures precious. Amazingly, through all the trials and tribulations and passage of time, the grassroots-based US-Nicaragua network is alive, well and thriving, and just as Rampton predicted, doing much more for people in that dirt-poor and exploited nation than anything attempted recently by the callous US government.
