This book is a simple straightforward guide to all those who find themselves in the midst of a search for a nanny and ponder as to how to go about this extremely important task. After all, it is our precious children we are talking about here. Ms. Desrosier's no nonsense approach and easy to read, logical style and book construction, make for a very smooth and easy reading. While the title may lead one to believe that the books relevancy is limited to a certain geographic area, 90% of the contents have universal value to parents all over the United states as it deals with issues related to making generic choices as to the style of parenting one wishes to persue, establishing the guidelines to the future caregiver and dealing with legal and safety issues. I would urge the author and the publisher to try and expand the scope of this excellent book beyond the San Francisco Bay area, as it could be very meaningful to couples all over the nation

Like the gentleman from Hawaii, I thought I was ordering a two volume set, as advertised on the site. In my line of work I need both volumes, but I only received Volume 1. Perhaps he and I should get together and swap volumes back and forth.

UL now publishes the Directory in two volumes. If you are looking for the sections dealing with the fire resistant ratings of beam, floor-ceiling, roof-ceiling, column, and wall and partition assemblies, then do not buy this book. The description of the book does not mention that the book being sold is Volume 2, which contains the rated joint systems and through-penetration firestop systems. Volume 1 contains the information that I was actually looking for, but I am unable to find anyone who carries it.

Just got this book. All I can say is that it's great. Gave me lots of ideas for places to take a fishing vacation that I hadn't really considered before. And when they say for ALL budgets they mean it! There are some real bargains in the book as well as some super nice places. They've even listed places you can only hike to or ride a boat to or take a plane.... Highly recommended!

My wife bought my son and I copies for Christmas. It's been an indespenable help! It's easy to locate a place that meets the requirements of those traveling in your party. I've never thought enough of a book to take the time to write a review, but Simpson did his homework so you don't have to. The descriptions listed contained all the info I needed, plus some. I've already made reservations for my spring trip! It's a bed and breakfast so my wife is even looking forward to this trip. TRAVELING FISHERMEN NEED TO TAKE A LOOK AT THIS BOOK BEFORE THEIR NEXT TRIP....

A thoroughly accessible guidebook enhanced with screenshots, illustrations, and explicit instructions, The Foundation Center's Guide To Grantseeking On The Web 2003 Edition is justifiably a very highly recommended reference for both amateur and professional grant-seekers.

An absolutely wonderful and useful guide. Would highly recommend to anyone looking into philanthropy. How anyone can not have this is beyond me.

This is an invaluable reference work for anyone looking for information on the philanthropic world. However, there is 1 glaring omission: My brother, David G. Jacobs, is the Editor of this book, and is credited as such on the inside front cover. I don't know who this Jeffrey Falkenstein is, or why he is listed as "compiler". I felt I had to set the record straight on this item.

This book is thorough and comprehensive in scope. It tells you exactly what you need to know to apply for a grant from the many organizations it lists. A good measure of its worth is that it's in its 11th update.

Both the graduate school office and the office of career counseling at my college have this book, and the staff guard it jealously--with good reason. It clearly describes each foundation and their guidelines for the type(s) of grants they make. In perusing this book, I didn't find a guide to writing a grant (probably because I was seeking foundation information), though other excellent books on how to do so exist elsewhere. If you want to cut to the chase, and save time and energy in targeting the right foundation(s) to meet your need, the hefty pricetag is worth your investment.

Heim and Hansen have done it again! I bought Free Stuff for Quilters for my wife, and she loves it. We bought Free Stuff for Crafty Kids for our children, and we all love it. The beginning of the book is solid Internet information, the stuff everyone surfing should know. The meat of the book is a large assortment of "crafty" sites for everyone, young and old, of all skill levels. Sure we could find similar sites on our own. But why bother? Heim and Hansen did all the work and leave us with all the fun. I'm making kites with my son. My wife and daughter are polishing their drawing skills and learning about rubber stamping. I highly recommends this book!

The sites are terrific and well researched, but what I really liked best was all the information about how to make surfing the internet safe for my kids.

What a terrific book! Gloria provides links that will help you find shows, shops, guilds. She has information on museums, festivals, retreat, cruises, hotels, airplanes, trains, weather, maps, discounts, tourism. Whew! Understand that URLs come and go as quickly as the daffodils of spring. The lead time for a book makes it inevitable that you will find some bad links. There are so many, you won't miss those few that have disappeared.

This informative book leads quilters to all the important sites that will enhance their travels. Topics include: Guides to Festivals, Art and Craft Fairs, Sewing and Needlework Shows; Quilt & Fabric Store Directories; Quilt Guilds and Associations; Museums and Galleries Featuring Quilts; Listings of Quilt Shows and Exhibitions. She also has several chapters on free trip planning services on the web.

Ian describes in detail the most romatic inns, hotels and getaways available in the Caribbean. He writes the information you REALLY want to know before you travel...location of the room, the activities not to miss, what to expect and special details which set apart his book from all the rest. I read this book cover to cover and marked all the places I wanted to travel based on his recommendation. After I traveled to the first location on my honeymoon (it was everything I pictured it to be, based on his description) I then put it to the test and traveled once again to a location I read about in the book. Again, I was impressed at the detail he was able to capture within the pages.

I plan to travel to each of the resorts he rates highly and would recommend to any reader that enjoys the Caribbean to pick up this book and you won't be disappointed. In fact, even if you don't step foot out of the privacy of your our home, after reading this book, you will feel as if you have traveled to some of the most amazing Hideaways in the Caribbean.

Keown's detailed and forthright travel guide is must-read for anyone looking for an off-the-beaten-track, romantic beach vacation. We each read Keown's descriptions of the various resorts cover to cover and dog-eared the possibilities - then compared notes. Truthfully, any of the resorts he reviewed would have fit the bill, but his thorough evaluation of four areas (dining, sports, rates and the hard-to-capture "atmosphere" category) allowed us to find the right fit for our vacation. He tells you which islands to pick depending on your budget, mood and individual needs, then takes you through virtually every consideration you'll need to select the right resort, down to island taxes, transports, tipping, and room service availability. His pet peeves are the same as ours - no huge hotels, no convention centers, and no cruise ships! Thanks to Keown, we were able to find the perfect romantic Caribbean hideaway for our honeymoon. We loved it so much we're buying the 9th edition for our next vacation.
