I wasn't expecting two people from UPS to have carry this book into my office--the book is huge.

I have been using MYSQL for a year and I am moving to MS SQL Server. The book's tips (over 600) have been invaluable.

I used the code the book provides to convert many of applications to support transactions. Got to eliminate tons of code.

Very well done! Recommend.

A must have book for database programmers and administrators. Covers all aspects in detail. A very good reference.

This book has a lot of tips about SQL Server, although it doesn't say that on the cover. This was actually good for me since I was going on a job interview and I needed something like a comprehensive tips reference book on SQL (and SQL Server). I could have easily chosen a worse book. It's a bit wordy for me, and I'm not used to seeing so many typos, but considering that I have seen some terrible SQL books out there (including my college text), this book is actually well thought out.

As opposed to general reengineering principles, this book tells you how to carry out and implement reengineering successfully. We have already used it in one project with very good results and it was much cheaper than hiring expensive consultants. We now plan on using it for two more projects.

We have tried to use radical reengineering and continuous improvement. Both failed. This book presents a method for major discrete process improvement--in between the two extremes. This successful method is composed of 14 discrete steps that people can use without training out of the book. Each step is thoroughly addressed with guidelines, lessons learned and examples. The book also handles how to overcome resistance and problems that you might encounter.

Most reengineering books give you general directions for doing part of the reengineering. They do not deal with implementation. Nor do they address the many problems that you are likely to encounter during the work. This book is an exception. It is probably the most useful and usable book on process improvement/reengineering. It is based on actual experience and follows a step-by-step approach through implementation. In fact, almost half of the book deals with implementation. There are a number of real world examples that are carried and discussed through the book. The book is well written and complete. The files on the CD-ROM are very useful.

I find that anyone wishing to learn 3D and solid modeling should read,"3D Modeling in AutoCAD" by John E. Wilson. The book takes one from UCS positioning and rotation, to isometric projected drawings in no time. Watching your solid model drawing evolve after reading several chapters, gives one a sense of confidence. Not to mention, a better change of landing that autoCAD job.

As a 3D AutoCAD instructor, I am delighted with this book and as a textbook! My students are successfully able to 3-D model most objects, independently, without emphasis on step-by-step directions. Althrough this book provides step-by-step instructions as Chapter exercises; primarily, each Chapter explains the variety of modelling usages for surfacing and creating solids. This book guides the student with alternatives to solving 3-D modelling techniques.

An excellent reference with very thorough, easy to follow explanations and exercises. John Wilson is an exemplary instructor, laying a solid foundation, and then building onto it in a logical manner. If you have any difficulty understanding "Paper Space", for instance, read John's explanation - he makes it crystal clear.

This book by John E.Wilson provides answers for a reader at any level of expertise. It gives you clear examples of useful problems instead of dwelling on obscure ones. All options of a command are shown and explained so you really learn to use the software to full advantage. I really like the detail because I can now pick up the other areas I never understood. I especially like the chapter on rendering and applying textures. I tried some of the examples and the rendered parts look real, especially the transparent ones.

This book is terrific and is worth much more than the price of ordering it. The writing is easy-to-understand and yet the book is so thorough that it is appropriate for all user levels. The book is full of many tips and helpful illustrations --and doesn't weigh a ton either. I highly recommend this book to anyone thinking about using WordPerfect and even for those who have used it for years. Well done, Ms. Acklen!

Highly recommended, also for experienced users!

What I like about the book is the useful Table of Contents and the great Index. Being an experienced user these help me to find the information that I need fast. I really like that.

When I get to the subject I am looking for, I find a step-by-step explanation as you would expect. What makes this book so easy to use is that these explanations are easy to read and to follow, no use of excessive or complicated words but still everything you need is there. The layout helps too, it is nice and balanced, with interesting tips and notes that add to the joy of using this book.

The title "Absolute Beginner's Guide" is correct, new users will find everything they need to start using WordPerfect. But it could also have had a subtitle like "Experienced Users Allowed". The detailed descriptions, notes and tips in the book have already learned me quite a few things even though I consider myself an advanced user. When I am using WordPerfect, this book is not far away!

I spend alot of time sifting through preparation materials, and purchased this one based on the two other reviews. With NO prior Access experience, I completed the 26 questions on the MOUS test in about 30 minutes (out of the 45 minutes allowed).

You will pass the certification test easily after completing all of the material in this book and on the CD.

The material is well focused on just that information needed to answer the MOUS test questions correctly.

The only complaint I have is that the software on the CD would "flag" questions for review that were marked correct on the Test Report and it would not flag some questions for review that were marked as incorrect on the Test Report.

Note: I spent about 120 hours going through all the material twice (and experimenting with Access 2000 a little) before taking the test.

This is the MOUS Access 2000 book your need!

If your are pursuing the MOUS certification for Microsoft Access 2000, then this book is your best friend. The text is thorough and easy to follow. It concentrates on the test, so you won't be confused by peripheral discussions. But the real gem is the PinPoint CD that accompanies the book. The Access tasks are presented in the same manner as the test, with excellent walk-throughs for any tasks which you might find difficult. When you miss a task, the software keeps track so you can easily try it again. Using Susan L. Wise's MOUS Test Preparation Guide as my primary study tool, I pulled a perfect 100% on the Microsoft Access 2000 exam!

Each chapter is a Project. Project 1 took you through what you should already know about other Windows applications. I felt that I would not be trying to learn Access if I did not know how to use "Help" in other Windows applications.

Anyway, this was a great BASIC Access book. I did, however, have to send an email to Prentice Hall. After a week, I still have not heard from them. There are sections in the book called, "Discovery Zone Exercises". They let you figure out what to do by using "Help". Sometimes "Help" is no "Help". My advice to you is, if you can not figure out the "Zone" exercises just go on. I found one answer in the "Intermediate" book. Another at a book store.

With all that, the book is well written. They have you do the same thing more than once and sometimes in different ways. It earns 5 star's.

I am now starting on the "essentials Access 2000 intermediate" book. Look for that review.

Excellent resource for class

I bought all three book, beginning, intermediate & advanced to use in a course that I teach in Theories of Database. My students used these books to learn Access on their own. The book is very clear with practical examples. It includes many hints and tips that help avoid many of the pitfalls that beginners will typically encounter. Gives plenty of assignments and examples. My only complaint in that the binding on the spiral addition is pretty flimsy. I highly recommend this book for beginners or for teachers looking for a good access "workbook".

Access Locking Issues in Multi-User Network Environment

This book is priceless! The information in chapter 2 on locking enabled me to set up and test a very troubling locking issue on a network jet Access 2003 application. It is still very relevant for Access 2003 and 2007 and will enable you to address locking issues that other authors only gloss over. It provides actual working code and identifies all the possible locking error messages you might encounter and shows you how to handle them. It also provides an example of a form that uses the timer object to handle errors and prevent locking due to a user sitting on a locked record. Again, absolutely priceless. I have spent many hours on the web, an no one has answered my questions like this book.

If you develop databases for 10+ demanding users and your Access MBE databases slow down under load, this text is excellent to get you started in "Access Projects" and Client-Server design.

It has one chapter on building better MDEs and around 6 solid chapters on Access Projects, including connection to SQL Server & any ODBC Server.

I love this book as in one day I grasped most of the Client-Server content and now I'm preparing to convert my MBE to a ADP.

It also covers Internet issues such as ASP and XML and has a bit on .Net.

I've tried several courses: math, science, history and language. My kids especially love the Sign Language cards! I purchased all three card sets and the CD-software. The photographs are more realistic than drawings which you mostly find in ASL products. Great for younger kids too. My daughter's using them in her Brownie troupe and my three-year-old has picked up on some of the alphabet and numbers already. My older son has some mild learning disabilities and looking at a page in a book with so much information all together makes him nervous. I put one card at a time on a cleared table. It helps him focus and that gives him more confidence. People have been making or using flash cards forever, and I think they always will be no matter how fancy computers and software gets (but the Exambusters software is good too). I've recommended them to others.

When I was in school, flash cards were the best way to learn and I always made my own. The exambusters cards cover many of my daughter's courses and I bought her several. Sometimes we work together and she and her friends study in a group too--making a trivia game. Try the software. The screensaver function is great!! In our house, we love to learn new languages. The program flashes words or phrases and then translation every few seconds. The material goes into your brain by osmosis and the constantly changing cards on the screen keep pulling you back to read more. The software is much easier to figure out than some other brands we've purchased. It's intuitive; you don't need to read a lot of confusing instructions. All in all, good investment.

My son liked the software, so he studied more than he would have from a book. Learning is hard work, but the exambusters made him feel like it's not quite so bad. The software is well-laid out, colorful, and user-friendly. The messages they give when they score the tests are amusing.

The cards and CD's gave good review before exams and a head start at the start of the new school year. The cards had a lot of questions; you can carry them in your pocket and learn a few each day. The software was easy to use. It is like the cards but on the screen. You can take a test or just review. Front is question, click for answer on back of card. The software can also show the cards on the screen at random, first the question, then the answer. They change every few seconds. That keeps you reading and wondering what's coming up next. It's entertaining while you're studying.

Sorta like a Chilton's Guide to your 74' Datsun B210. BUT! the point is...IT'S ALL THERE!!! Any question about how to do anything, what this does, what that is there for, etc. Tips and tricks. It's HUGE!
It will continue to be a reference book into the future. At least until the next version's book comes out.
