All of the detail hurdles in making a movieReview Date: 2003-03-23
It all starts with planning, from the initial idea, on to budgeting, clearing all legal hurdles, organizing and shooting the scenes, editing and cleaning the stored scenes, and ending with publicizing and distributing the finished product. All are so complex, that you do not make a movie, you survive its' creation. The fact that the movie can now be stored on digital devices only significantly affects one of these steps.
Written primarily for those who are interested in making DV projects for entertainment, this is one of the most interesting books I have ever read. The number of detail hurdles that need to be cleared to make a movie are astounding, and kudos to the authors for explaining all of those hurdles in great detail.

Gain BPR Traction With El Sawy's Book!Review Date: 2000-10-24
Many BPR books tend to bog the reader down with jargon, but El Sawy's book clearly explains BPR concepts, issues, and implementation steps. Implementation is the operative word here: the objective is to get the reader to jump into modeling processes and then optimize/reengineer those processes. The software included in the package is essential for helping one get their arms around a BPR project by "doing". The first part of the book examines the BPR raison d'etre. Concepts and issues are laid out in a very readable fashion. The second section uses the included Holosofx Workflow.BPR software to provide a hands-on experience, from scoping the project through modeling, analyzing, and redesigning a business process. The steps required to create a process model in Workflow.BPR are very well illustrated and presented such that a person unfamiliar with the tool can get functional right away. The final two chapters deal with reengineering supply chains and integration options (e.g. workflow engines, XML) respectively.
Interspersed throughout the book are case studies that further illustrate how BPR projects have been conducted in the real world. Especially interesting for me was the RosettaNet case study, where an industry consortium redesigned the entire process flow for the IT industry.
I highly recommend this book for both novices as well as business professionals. eBusienss is enabling huge changes in how business is conducted, but without a clear methodology for understanding and reengineering processes, much of what could be gained may go unrealized.
A new wave of Process Redesign!!Review Date: 2000-11-03
This book does a great job educating the reader on what an e-Business process is and what the concepts entailed are. It also presents a very powerful methodology for redesigning processes to achieve optimization. This is all achieved by presenting unique case studies, and using state-of-the-art process modeling software from Holosofx. Dr. El Sawy teaches you how to use the software in modeling a process, analyzing it, and redesigning it for optimal performance.
I strongly recommend this book to any one who believes in Business Process Management and Business Process Reengineering.

This "In A Snap" book is really wonderful. It shows you what to do through pictures of the screens and simple, easy to understand text. It is extemely easy to understand and allows you to get right to work on a project.
It is just about the easiest computer instructional book I have seen. Just as the title states "Teach Yourself" EASILY.
Don't be a DummieReview Date: 2006-07-06
Just inside the front cover is "Contents at a Glance", every subject or software function has it's own tab which makes using the book as a reference manual very quick and easy. I found the organization of the book and the presentation of the material to be straight forward and easy to understand.
If you are new to the software, I would recommend reading the 25 page introduction, "Start Here", first. If you have experience with the software, the book is organized so that all of the information you will need for your project is in one place (follow the tabs).
Chapters in the book cover:
1.-Start Here
2.-Importing Audio
3.-Editing Audio
4.-Creating Audio Projects
5.-Importing Photos
6.-Editing Photos
7.-PhotoSuite Projects
8.-Creating Slideshows
9.-Capturing Video
10.-Editing Video
11.-Advanced Video Editing Techniques
12.-Authoring DVDs
13.-Creating Data Disks
14.-Backing up Data
Label Creator and Media Manager Tools are bonus content on the publisher's website.
There are other books on Easy Media Creator 8 but unless you'r a Dummie (also a good book) this is the one you will want.

ATTN: NwkAdmins, you NEED this book.Review Date: 2002-12-11
This book is well written, clear and expansive. I didn't read it cover to cover (not at first anyway) I found pieces I needed, applied it, digested it, reviewed it and then went on to the next morsel I needed. If I missed something it was easy to find. By the way, it works with Win2K and WinXP neither of which is well documented by anyone anywhere.
I'm just glad they didn't charge me for what it was really worth! (most books I buy I quickly regret wasting the money unfortunately)

FeedbackReview Date: 2008-11-18
I found the book very helpful and good for new comers in learning the use of XAML building user interface and various topics of WPF.
One item that I had spent 4-5 hours trying to debug or understand my error, after I found the cause that I would like to comment on.
On page 372 about applying the trigger unto Play/Pause button, there are some disconnections in the material presentation in which the authors failed to mention or tell the reader to set the "DataContext" value to "Playing" in the code behind file.
If it had been so, I would not have to spend such wasted time (not one who wants to learn something by following a "in 24 hours" book) in finding out why the button did not change as expected.
Some figures (example 22.1, 22.2) shown some added visual changes (i.e. current playing song title, page background, sidebar) but were never mentioned in any pages.
I give 4 out of 5 stars for "introductory" coverage on WPF subject.

I could still use it as a supplement for a computer graphics courseReview Date: 2007-02-18
Although it is now dated, this book was more than adequate for our needs. While it was abbreviated, the coverage was complete, well suited for a beginning course where the emphasis was on the mathematical foundations rather than the modern bells and whistles. Even today, if I were to offer a computer graphics course, I would consider using this book as a supplement, computer power may have advanced over the years, but the mathematics has stayed the same.
Helpful for computer graphics algorithm detailsReview Date: 2006-01-06
1. A triple digit price tag
2. Disorganized and obfuscated algorithm details
This Schaum's outline is an excellent antidote to both of these problems. Besides its low price tag, it has a very clear presentation of the basics of computer graphics algorithms. It starts out talking about image representation including common color spaces. It gives a clear definition of dithering, halftone approximations, and error diffusion. Next comes a discussion of scan conversion, which is how to translate geometric figures into pixels. Chapters 4 and 5 discuss two-dimensional graphics and their transformations. This includes good discussions and examples on matrix transformations and how they can be chained together. Chapters 6 through 8 extend these concepts to three dimensions. Very detailed information is given on transformations, projections, and clipping in 3D. This includes a definition of a typical 3D graphics "pipeline", which is basically an assembly-line of computer graphics from object definition to display. Chapter 9 on geometric representations was not as good as the other chapters in this outline, since it didn't do a very good job of talking about such representations in greater than two dimensions which is necessary for the development of wireframe models. However, the last three chapters of the book on hidden surfaces, shading models, and ray tracing had very good examples and discussions that could lead to pseudocode. I would highly recommend this guide to anyone taking or planning to take a course on computer graphics as a good language-independent guide to the basic methods and algorithms of computer graphics programming.

It starts from current DV technology (like CCD and DV formats) and then introduces various DV camcorder types depending whether you are normal consumer or pro-sumer or professional users. (It even shows you the approximate price range for various camcorder class.)
It then introduces how scripts planning should be like for making different scenes of video (newscast or documentary or movie). It teaches different techniques of shooting pictures/video by cameras/comcorders (angles, views, lighting and audio control). I likes the book giving you various examples of lighting equipments and audio equipments required for making good video.
For movie pre-production process, it tells what kind of production crews and things you will need and do for different stages (including cost ranges). For movie post-production process, it shows how to edit all movie and audio footages into final movies and how to fix video/audio problems. It also describes what types of movie editing systems (computers, hardware equipments and software video applications) available in the market depending on high-end, mid-range, or low-end production and budgets. It also describes how the final process of movie copies are generated and delivered to the world.
I like the book because it gives me pretty good ideas how DV movies are made with real equipments that are availalbe in the current market. This book is highly recommended especially for serious beginning DV/movie producers.
