Toss that Sanford...

This antibiotic guide is so well-organized, up-to-date, and thorough that I've thrown away my Sanford. When in the ED I don't have time to fumble through hundreds of pages of Sanford tables looking for the right drug - here I have not only the drug, but the dosage and course in a matter of seconds. Other features like pregnancy contraindications and even average pill costs are included which makes me, and my patients, much happier. I never start a shift without it.

Superb quick reference for antibiotics

The reason you should buy this book is because it is USEFUL. I am a pediatric resident who works a lot of shifts in the ED. I have sanford, pharmacopia , and this book. I definitely use this book the most because it gives me the specific antibiotic and dose for a specific diagnosis. The parmacopia lists the meds while sanford is too nonspecfic and cumbersome to use. I was treating a case of pyelo the other day, fumbled through sanford for about 3-4 minutes and found 4 antibiotic abbreviations, which took me another minute to find out the names, only to find out they were not peds weight based. I quickly opened the EMRA guide and found my answer in 20 seconds. I love the book because it is quick, easy, and accurate. A must buy.

Essential read for any officer of any branch

This book should be on the essential reading list for any junior officer in the armed services of the United States. It provides significant information on the history of the profession and outlook of each of the services.

It develops the though process of what being an officer means as a profession including the duties and responsibilities to society and your Soldiers/Sailors/Airman/Marines.

I can not recommend it in high enough terms.

An invaluable, meaningful reference.

This 2007 edition of a classic adds to a series of books of the same title, written by a journalist and historian who wrote the first book at the behest of Gen. George C. Marshall, who believed all officers needed to base professional commitments on a common moral-ethical foundation, presented here. Any military or public library strong in officer inspiration needs THE ARMED FORCES OFFICER: it updates scenarios to modern times, covers everything from accountability issues to honor, respect and duty concerns, and it surveys training routines and strategies across the board. An invaluable, meaningful reference.

an important resource for doctoral students

Review Date: 1999-10-16
This book should be on every university library shelf, just for starters. Written by a psychologist, who was also founder and former director of a joint two university doctoral program in Education, it is written in a warm, easy style and yet spells out in clear detail the unwritten rules of doctoral study. She states that her experience with hundreds of doctoral students as well as professors provided the inspiration for this valuable guide which is designed to help pave the way for doctoral students in any discipline. She makes explicit, in a knowing and straightforward way, the kinds of information that can make the difference in the feelings of confidence with which students can make their way through their doctoral experience. It deals with many of the 'nuts and bolts' of graduate study that many books present. However, it is her insightful knowledge about the role of personal relationships and how they effect student progression that puts the book in a special class.

This book includes more than technical assistance. It describes pursuit of a doctorate in the social sciences as an emotional journey. Most students fail, not for lack of intellectual ability, but for psychological reasons. This book describes relationships that help or hurt the student's quest. It is invaluable.

Fine writing about an uninteresting bunch of people

A friend recommended this book as I've been reading a lot about Sarah, Duchess of York, and I was interested in Steve Wyatt's background.

The author writes in an easy style as she tells the history of these families who are a large part of Texas history. I had not heard much about any of them. Texas folks probably would like to read about them, but I found them boring. I've given it five stars for her writing.

There are some interesting things about how retail stores have changed over the years and how customer service has deteriorated.

I think that only Texans would be interested in the parts about oil and gas companies.

This book is extraordinary. The multiple prefaces and introductions alone are worthy of five stars. I find the translations of the text itself to be well-balanced.

Dimock and Stewart's translation of the Caitanya Caritamrta (The Nectar of the Acts of Caitanya) is a readable and extremely well-researched edition of the biography of Sri Caitanya, a 16th century Bengali ascetic who is believed by Gaudiya Vaisnavas to have been the androgynous dual incarnation of Krsna and Radha. The lengthy introduction and notes on translation provide readers unfamiliar with the tradition with all the background they need to appreciate the layers of meaning hidden in the text and the narrative strategies of Krsnadasa that come across so well in this translation. For more background, read Dimock's 1966 book, "The Place of the Hidden Moon". a true classic in the literature of South Asian studies. Highly recommended.

Professor Swainger has written an excellent book on the Canadian department of justice.

"The federal Department of Justice was established by John A. Macdonald as part of the Conservative party's program for reform of the parliamentary system following Confederation. Among other things, it was charged with establishing national institutions such as the Supreme Court and the North West Mounted Police and with centralizing the penitentiary system. In the process, the department took on a position of primary importnace in the post-Confederation politics. This was particularly so up to 1878, when the Confederation was "completed".

This brief book is based on a deep understanding of the current leadership literature and rigorous original research resulting in practical, usable suggestions that can (should) be practiced in real life by people who want to lead - not just manage. It is the antithesis of the "what I did at work today" pablum that often substitutes for genuine scholarship and is useful for anyone who wants to understand how /why leadership is a communication phenomenon. My only criticism is the price.

Although it is a bit pricey (almost $1.00/page) Ms. Czech shows herself to be very knowledgeable and gives the reader valuable insight based upon her vast experience with the subject matter. She manages to not only make a dry subject interesting, but extends current research in directions that will keep you on your toes.

This is a well researched book that provides many step-by-step instructions in a manner that is easy and enjoyable to read. This book was used in a "How to get into grad school" seminar in the Psychology department at my undergrad university. Now, two years into my clinical doctoral program, the information in this book rings increasingly true as I have served as student representative for our clinical appplication process. My copy of the book is now tattered from loaning it to all of my friends with advanced interests in the field who inquire about graduate school. While its no substitute for hard work and persistence, this book will help you market yourself to the best of your ability. I cannot recommend this book enough!

This publication is a complete, comprehensive disaster planning and management program focused toward the college and university administrative structure that is a MUST HAVE set of tools for every college and university risk management department.

The author provides step-by-step guidance through the process of developing and implementing a comprehensive disaster management plan tailored to the unique requirements of each institution. Beginning with the recognition of the need for planning, continuing through the requirements for upper management commitment, collection of data, risk and impact analysis, development of crisis and continuity of operations plan(s), to implementation of the program including training and exercising the plan, the author leads the user in a logical manner. Included are sample plans and recommendations for preparation for and response to natural and man-made disasters and crises.

Wow! This is a very useful set of materials. As a higher education risk manager, that has participated in the management response to a variety of exigent events and collaborated in development and implementation of crisis and BCP plans on several campuses, I found the templates & supporting documents, including the extensive editorial notes, to be practical and workable in the unique environment of colleges and universities.
Those institutions just starting will benefit from the editorial guidance as well as from the templates. Institutions with existing plans will benefit from benchmarking against the recently introduced NFPA 1600 standards.

I think we'll have to buy some more copies of this story, my son makes us read it at least 4 - 5 times a week to him. He loves firefighters (and George of course) so this is a perfect fit.

I've noticed some of the newer stories "inspired" by Margaret and H.A. Rey -- this is one of their originals / classics. Timeless and precious are words that come to mind when thinking about the actual story.

So many opportunities to learn / teach within the classic George stories -- I think because some of the pictures, things, stuff in the story are vintage and unfamiliar it encourages the child to inquire more.

We're huge fans -- and if you watch the specials, sometimes they have 4 for price of 3 on [...]

Of course, you should try to support your local bookstore whenever you can!
