This is a must read for those studying for promotional exam.

This is a very detailed book covering the basics of fire fighting and the equipment used. The 14 chapters take you from basic knowledge of how a fire behaves in different types of enviroments to the types of equipment you may use to extingquish a fire to the proper way to tying knots, Laying hoses etc. I found a copy at the library and want to purchase a copy but it seems to be out of print. bummer

Really captures the everyday life of firefighters-- sleeping, eating, hanging out together. Important for children to know the interworkings of fire stations. Very informative.

My only disappointment lies in the fact that cartoon animals with dialogue bubbles distract from the print at the bottom of the page.

Although this book is heavy on pre-colonization tribes, it also has information from then to the present. In the center is an incredible map of all the tribes. Great for someone like me trying to narrow down possible tribal affiliation of ancestors.

Frederick P. Wensley's account of a lifetime in law enforcement spans the age from Jack the Ripper to pre-World War II England. The book was written in 1931. It is a superb, laconic record of famous cases and vivid memories, a true memoir, written without resort to intricate detail or self-imposed research.
Wensley entered police service as a "rookie cop", getting beat up by London toughs and gaining his experience through time, trial and error. He became a master of his territory, knowing his jurisdiction by wrote and memory and relying on the same life-long experience of his colleagues.
Inspirational pages include the loss of Wensley's two sons in World War I, the youngest contracting influenze from which he died, on the day the Armistice was signed.
This is wonderful history, written without exaggeration or spleen against the criminals Wensley apprehended. Case in point, this good-will note from a felon, "Dear Mr. W., I feel I must join with all other criminals and old lags in sincerely wishing you years of happiness and a complete rest."
Those were the days.

book was in great condition was suppose to be new but had a name
written on the first page. This was a disappointment because this was not mentioned. Otherwise the book was great.

IN A PEACEFUL WORLD (1961)

This document contains two of the worst fears of American constitutionalists.
These are:
1) the delegation of authority to an international governing body and
2) disarmament in accordance with that governing body's protocols

This document, which is a real State Department text, doesn't just propose "gun grabbing", it also recommends the disbanding of military forces! Legitimate military functions are limited to "preserving internal order" (a potential attack on the 3rd Amendment) and membership in the "United Nations Peace Force". The actual international disarming process would take place in three stages; these are laid out in the booklet. Also included is the "Declaration on Disarmament" which member nations would presumably be expected to sign on to.

If you want freedom from war, quit electing egomaniacs who love it!

Good reference book includes many colored pictures. The book has good descriptions of latest figurines as well as retired 56 Village figurines. This book will not only help novice collectors, experienced collectors will also find a lot of attention-grabbing information.

I was really impressed with this Kaplan book. I purchased it because I was debating about whether or not I wanted to pursue a Ph.D. This book gives you step by step guides on how to apply (from writing essays to asking for recommendations), how to find money for school (scholarships, school funding, loans: types of, etc.), and wake-up calls on the real-life of a Ph.D. student and after graduation. There is also a section in the back on where to find scholarship money.

I read this book straight through with a highlighter and pencil and it helped me get through the application process smoothly. It's well written and user friendly. I strongly recommend purchasing this book even if you're just thinking about applying to graduate school. It really makes you think about the entire process, not just the "going-to-school" part.
