Excellent ID reference. Has well-needed drug and tx info not included in most ID sections of other references. Almost pock-sized, it is if u have a lab coat. Even appropriate for the somewhat experienced ID person due to details on seldom seen patho or seldom used drugs. Came in quite handy when I had to dose polymixin B IV...

Authoritative, concise and practical

As a practising oncologist, I own a whole personal library of oncology books. I find this book easy to use and sufficiently authoritative as well as up-to-date for quick reference and reminders. Compared to the standard large textbooks, it restricts discussion to only the most relevant and frequently quoted studies, but this should make it ideal for the trainee doing his/her revisions not to be too bogged down by details. Among the "shorter" textbooks/manuals, this is definitely the best.

One notable problem however relates to the faulty 'binding' of book, and both my paperback copies (one kept in my office, and the other at home) fall apart within weeks of purchasing. Publishers take note !!

Most insightful Kafka scholarship I've ever read.
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 17 total.

In all my years I've never read a more thrilling account of Kafka's relation to the Western literary tradition. This is the sort of thing Stephen King might write if comparative literature was his field. Schur's insight about the role of the path in the Western canon was so profound that when I first read it I slid out of my rocking chair onto the floor. Fantastic.

The Best of Everything

I wasn't that crazy about Dr. Marrs' biography of the troubled Southern writer, and I'm afraid I let her have it on [...].

[...]!

[...].

[...].

The book is handsomely illustrated with a selection of Welty's own fine, evocative photographs, reproduced adequately from the original negatives, which form part of the collection.

Her correspondence is annotated, so we can see that Welty was a favorite of many Broadway and Hollywood stars as early as the 1950s, and an autograph hound would have a great time reading this fan mail from such greats as Julie Harris, Una Merkel, Maurice Evans, John Houseman, and Geraldine Fitzgerald. I wonder if the estate couldn't actually create a small keepsake book based on her mail from famous actresses who loved playing eccentric Southern women in adaptations of Welty's work.

Good work, Dr. Marrs. I hope someday you expand your work here to include the complete range of Welty's writing, both published and not. Reading this book is like the promise of a new day, filled with strange smells and tantalizing glimpses of a mind both at its peak, and later, not doing so great, but still soldiering on valiantly.

Thorough grounding in Shoshone
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-09-05
This is a thorough grounding in the Shoshone (or Shoshoni) language. Pronunciation, grammar, and wordlists are soundly covered. The authors include one linguist and one native speaker to ensure complete accuracy of material. The book compares very well with some of the dodgier Amerindian language materials currently being offered. The first resource (and possibly the only one) to this threatened language.

In dealing with friends and family in harmful relationships, I have found the books of Marie M. Fortune to be very beneficial, well-researched, and easily read by the non-professional. As a religious leader, this book as well as her other material on this subject have helped me aid my patrons in their times of need. She gives clear, step-by-step details and instructions and simplifes a very complex issue well. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to examine the ethics of personal relationships in any form. For a memeber of the clergy or someone who works with people in damaging relationships, this book is a must.

A MUST read book!

Many people have retirement plans through their employer or independently, such as 401(k), IRA, Roth IRA, but most people have a little idea how do these plans work, what are the rules, your rights, benefits, tax implications, and how to take care of their nest egg. This is a MUST read book for anyone who is enrolled or is planning to enroll in any type of retirement plan, including 401(k), Roth IRA, IRA, etc.

Book discusses in detail, in very practical terms all about the retirement plans, how to manage them, rules for each type of plan, how to avoid expensive mistakes, and many other aspects of plans that you must know.

Considering that your retirement plan is probably the most important investment (arguably more important than a home you own), everyone should read this book to ensure they are getting most of their retirement plans and to avoid expensive mistakes in the long run.

The author of this book is the professor for my Political Science class at the University of Michigan and he is so incredibly passionate about the Civil Rights Movement. It makes the discussions a lot more meaningful when coming from someone who had to sit in the back of the bus instead of from someone who had read about it and never actually experienced it. His book is passionate and is an excellent read for anyone interested in the public policy behind the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
