Lacity and Hirschheim have rigorously and comprehensively looked at the issues of outsourcing information systems. They provide guidance to information systems managers about the real issues involved in this process in a number of ways: By presenting real and thorough case studies which give a 'blow by blow' description of the politics, the financial analysis, the technical issues and the commercial issues involved in such an exercise. Also they give practical guidance to managers about what to look for and what to look out for. I also recommend their follow up book which gives the insourcing response. This second book demonstrates their practical approach to these management issues and also shows that they are even handed in their treatment of this complex and often stressful decision making process.

I havent read this book in years. It was so good that I keep going to the library to take it out, but it is always gone,or someone steals them as fast as they get new ones. The author spent his whole life doing what I wish I could,Searching the fields and streams of NY. and getting paid for it. I want to buy one and keep it in my safe.

This book is the Doctoral thesis of a very able reseacher. To write the book, he not only interviewed more than 70 individuals, he worked in a Singapore-based international procuement office.

The book won't appeal to everyone, but I regard it as a must-read for any company wrestling with the issues of purchasing internationally. He covers one method of solving those problems very thoroughly, by examining the practices of the electronics industry. That industry has a variety of company structures, making the lessons learned applicable to any industry.

It's not light reading, but it's not an abstruse academic document, either. The author's practical experience shows up clearly. (Full disclosure: I helped with some editing.)

Island in the Sun- Side Two is Hippolyte's first collection and was published in Saint Lucia, Caribbean. This book is a great summation of the inefficencies of our government, and how they can be resolved. The book is well-written, and will truly open your eyes to the often outrageous actions of our government.

Aalders provides an excellent guide to outsourcing issues. Any company that is beginning to think about procuring outsourcing arrangements should give this book to each member of the procurement team, BEFORE they start.

"Jim Crow Guide: The Way It Was", is an excellent 'guide' to life in the Jim Crow South. Stetson Kennedy's book amply captures this era, when terriorism of an entire class of U.S. citizens, in the South, was the order of the day. The author's style of writing and unique presentation technique, makes this work easy reading for general readers and all students of American History from 9th grade and above.

John Wanamaker: Philadelphia Merchant is a fast paced, well researched account of one of America's premiere retailers. The author, Herbert Ershkowitz ascribes Wanamaker's success to beliefs critical to new millenium themes. The importance of business to the community. Advertising as the key to marketing success. Religion as the foundation of society. Must reading for the biography buff; the marketing major; the proactive capitalist and the budding fashionista.

"Journey Through Time: A Pictoral History of the Prince George's County Police Department" provides readers with numerous black-and-white photographs of the P.G. County police, a person will probably not find a greater source inasmuch as pictures are concerned. This book does an extremely thorough job of explaining the rich history of the police department, it tells through words and pictures the changes that have taken place as Prince George's County grew from a sleepy rural community to a heavily populated metropolitan suburb. In addition, every fallen officer received a one page synopsis explaining their careers and situations surrounding their deaths. This book is a must for people interested in the history of Prince George's County, it should be required reading for all recruits.
