I am an older gentleman, with no real interest in attending graduate school, mostly because I think academia is all a bunch of hooey. But I live in a college town, and, from time to time, I wonder if I could give these longhairs a run for their money. So I used Mr. Walters charming book to help myself apply to the University of Illinois as a 18 year-old Vietnamese woman. I did not, in fact, get in--but I found the experience to be oddly and unexpectedly thrilling. Mr. Walter's method of "not really" lying is extremely sophisticated, and--though it doesn't promise a hundred percent success--will improve your chances, and may even teach you to find new aspects of yourself.

This is MUST READ for every I/S person.

I needed this book for a collage course. The book arrivied in good shape and on time. I have enjoyed working with Amazon and look foward to working with them in the future.

A very good synopsis of Illinos history, people, and cultures. It covers the diverse areas of the state quite well from the rural southern Illinois area to the urban Chicago area. I enjoy using it in my fourth grade classroom because it is written so the children understand it and get a good background history of the state. My students enjoy the beautiful photographs that have been included. I especially like the Gallery of Famous Illinoisans at the end of the book. It also includes a summary of Illinois satistics and history at the end of the book that we found quite useful.

Military downsizes as anyone else. Lean and Mean. Streamlining. What ever the term the idea is the same. Cutting Back the Staff. Doing with less, yet to continue the same duties. To me, it just does not add up. Military is still recruiting. Jobs are still hiring. Yet we see less pay and more work. Where is the new math at. You do the figuring. I ca not see year 2000 on the same course. This scares our youth away from dreams!

When I came upon the book, Index Card Games for ESL, I was a little skeptical at first. It sounded like alot of work, or trouble. However, after reading through this book, and using it in my class, I found it to be extremely helpful in teaching english concepts very quickly, it was fun, and it was very easy. I took paper and cut it up into squares,( because I didn't have index cards) and quickly wrote out one of the games . My students loved the interaction that it gave with each other. It helped them to practice their english skills with each other, it also helped them with their english applications. The first game we played was matching synonyms. It was fun for us all! It was such a change from what we had been using. I had to look up the book to see if there was another edition of the book! And there is! I can't wait to see it as well.

This book is published by the Illinois State Museum in its Scientific Papers series. As such, the production is somewhat spare. This is a plain paperback with about 200 pages of text plus indexes, &etc. What the book lacks in appearance, it more than makes up for in content. There is much history here that is unavailable elsewhere. For example, the author (Wayne C. Temple) details the plight of the Kaskaskia Indians and their chief Duquoin in the last days of the Illinois nation in the State of Illinois.

This is a "must read" for anyone interested in early Illinois history in general and Indian history in particular.

This work provides one with information from the death rolls of the GAR's Department of Indiana. This carefully abstracted work, providing one with service data, age and death date when available, as well as GAR post and journal citation for each Union veteran listed, is a must for Civil War Researchers. The main text is appropriately complemented with six appendices including one with significant biographical data for select individuals. As veterans often retired to states other than those from which they served, one can find numerous individuals who served in Ohio, Pennsylvania and other eastern states units in this well done work.

Involves, among much else, Herrlisheim, the French First Army, Patton's
Third Army, Wurzberg, the Colmar Pocket, Dachau, etc., etc. Fascinating, very well written with lots of names and specifics.
