This epistle from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops echoes their own earlier and powerful statements in such letters as Economic Justice for All/10th Anniv. Ed. (Publication / United States Catholic Conference) as well as several Papal social documents dating back to and through RERUM NOVARUM: ON THE CONDITION OF THE WORKING CLASSES. and the regular encyclicals by several Popes promulgated on the anniversary of that ground-breaking statement in defense of human life, including most recently On Human Work / Laborem Exercens: On the Ninetieth Anniversary of Rerum Novarum; Encyclical Addressed by the Supreme Pontiff John Paul II to His Venerable Brothers...and to All Men and Women of Good Will and On The Hundredth Anniversary Rerum Novarum.

In our own times His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI exhorts us in Sacramento de La Caridad: Sacramentum Caritatis especially after section 88 to change those structures which create the enormous disparity in wealth which we see and suffer in our world today, as we are compelled to such social transformation by our paritcipation in the Holy Eucharist, the "mystery of liberation." Kindly read those powerful statements by Our Holy Father.

Many may notice with irony the breathtaking and prohibitive availability of this important document by our own nation's bishops as offered here upon the amazon. I can only urge you to consider the source at the USCCB and can say no more.

This document is described there thusly "In this moving pastoral reflection, the bishops issue an urgent call to all Catholics to speak out on behalf of those suffering the most, to lift up those in need, to work together to eliminate the scourge of poverty from this land of plenty. Yet only by recognizing the essential roles of the "four legs" of the table-the complementary responsibilities of families, communities, the market, and the government-can poverty be overcome, and human dignity advanced."

If you're looking for a book that will help you plan and promote your conference, get this one! Although not a detailed logistical planning book, it provides many tips in marketing, program design, and presenting a quality image for your conference. Each chapter has tons of tips that are very practical. There are also sample documents that will make your planning job easier.

This was a book required for a class in African American Catholic Studies. I recommend it to be read by those of that group.

Very interesting book,is about a great opportunity of negotiation of principals engaged in advancing Israel-Palestinian peace. It brings with it the great challenge of finding the way to achieve what undoubtedly hope to achieve from this opportunity. Is a very difficult way , the subjects of this book show how missteps are not only easy made but have very grave consequences.

An excellent book. Essential for the study of the period between the wars and causes of WWII.

This short collection includes Letter to Women, several Angelus addresses, and other resources. Pope John Paul II on the Genius of Women makes an excellent supplement to Mulieris Dignitatem (English: On the Dignity and Vocation of Women) because the documents included offer more specific examples and applications of MD's teaching. If you're daunted by the size of Theology of the Body, or if you're just beginning to read Church documents on the dignity and vocation of women, this is a great place to start.

My special field is neither statistics nor math. My reading this book was for research purpose. I enjoyed reading it, though it contains a few of "printing" mistakes.

The chapter 6 is somehow hard-to-find. I believe Talagrand's isoperimetric theory has wide range of applications. But it is not easy to read his original article (which, besides, is more than 100-page long). The chapter gives a very informative introduction to the theory.

If you're fascinated by Lizzie Borden, this book -- a collection of 26 papers presented at the conference held on the 100th anniversary of the infamous murders -- will keep you glued to the page. Here you will find Lizzie, the person and Lizzie, the case considered from five perspectives: psychological/women's issues; historical; literary; legal and forensic; and bibliographical. Sample titles: "The World Owed Her: Lizzie Borden's Shoplifting," "Lizzie, You Mean and Spiteful Thing," and "Librarians in the Life and Legend of Lizzie Borden."

But what really sets the book apart is its compelling suggestion that Lizzie may have been a victim of childhood incest (three papers focus exclusively on this idea). "The evidence, often the product of modern sociological, psychological, and clinical research, is persuasive and certainly provides us with a new way of looking at the crime," writes editor Jules Ryckebusch.

Indeed, the book's biggest virtue is its total departure from the usual did-she-or-didn't-she. I really couldn't put it down, although several spelling and grammatical errors detracted from my reading pleasure.
