If you have never read Aryeh Kaplan before you are in for a treat. He opens up the mystical (G-ds intended meaning), deeper meaning of the Bible to those uninitiated in Hebrew, Torah, Talmud or Kabbalah. What the true meaning of Jerusalem has to Jews and the world and to the final resurrection predicted by Judaism is all packed into this little book. Read It and Grow.

This book has completely opened my eyes to beginning to understand who God really is. Father Varillon gave conferences all over France, and after his death, people were so moved by his message that this book was put together out of notes people took of his conferences, recordings, and his own notes. it is really worth reading because he explains, in a friendly, intelligent tone that God can be nothing other than humble, because God is love, and only love, and so he needs us, to love us. that puts Him in a 'weak' position. where he needs us. he also says, God can only do what Love can do, He is not all-powerful, but then Love has great power, and that is good enough. he also talks about death as an 'outrage' -- to us and to God! I need to read it over again, to really retain the full message, and I want to get his book 'l'Humilité de Dieu' -- the Humility and Suffering of God. I have seen it quoted in several other books. Anyway, this is my opinion, as a lapsed Catholic trying to come back to the fold. It is certainly worth reading!!!!!!!!!!

The Jupiter/Saturn Conference Lectures

This volume is one of a series of books compiled from the lectures and workshops of some of the most innovative and articulate contributors to modern astrology. Through this medium of edited transcripts, we hope that some of the most vital and incisive of today's astrological thought - which heretofore has been communicated only to small groups and then passes into oblivion - can be given a permanent form and a wider availability.
This volume comprises eight lectures given at a 7-day confereence in Berkeley, California at the time of the Jupiter/ Saturn conjunction in July, 1981. In addition to considerable discussion of the Jupiter/Saturn conjunction and its 20-year cycle, the talks cover numerous other subjects such as:
Chart Comparison Dynamics
Chart Synthesis Methods
Research on Relationships
Key Issues of Astrology Today
The Theme of Light & Shadow (Conscious/Unconscious) in the Chart
The correlation of ancient myths with the astrological signs, thus explaining somwe underlying dynamics of the personality
Numerous exchanges with the audience add a dynamic feeling of these talks, as the questions elicit even more of the speakers' observations and experience. Hence, some of the atmosphere that many conference participants found so extraordinary is conveyed in this volume to a far wider audience.

Artificial Intelligence

Review Date: 2007-07-07
This proceedings is a 1,333 page compendium of technical papers each of which is based on the concept of Artificial Intelligence. Only papers which "...included significant intelligent systems content..." and which excluded purely classical methods were published. About 180 separate papers in the English language appear in a standard format: introduction, presentation, conclusion, references. The authors are from universities and research organizations throughout the world.
The subjects presented are unlimited in scope and describe applications in nearly every imaginable field. However, the single common thread is the inclusion of higher mathematics to rationalize the procedure. Whether a paper deals with objects, actions, or information, or a combination of these, the authors customarily provide a mathematical formulation. In many cases, the authors conducted an experiment to demonstrate or test the application in a real-life setting. Computing systems were usually employed to help generate solutions.
This was not intended to be read like a novel from chapter to chapter, nor can a typical scientist or engineer be expected to have the expertise to fully comprehend every paper. It is essentially a research reference on current applications in Artificial Intelligence which incorporates extensive reference lists, with website and email addresses, affording pursuit of the concepts in depth.
It is highly recommended to scientists, engineers, and research personnel with very strong mathematical skills as a resource publication.

A great wealth of knowledge is packed into this volume. It includes extensive info about Spain as well, including the Reconquista and Age of Exploration. This is the only place I have been able to find detailed maps of both Bolivar and San Martin's campaigns in English. I would have liked to see a bit more about British & American imperialism in the 19th century, but overall it is a great book. I would puchase a newer, up-to-date version in a heartbeat.

He did so after meeting Dr. Milan Bulajic, the director of the Museum of Genocide Victims in Belgrade.
During World War II, the Serbian population of this region suffered a genocide at the hands of the Nazis and their Croatian accomplices, as did 95 percent of the Roma population of the area.
This book was printed in limited quantities to begin with; if I am not mistaken no more than 1,000 copies were issued in the first printing.
For reasons I don't understand, having to do with a copyright lawsuit, apparently at the hands of alleged genocide perpetrators it is unfortunately no longer available, and that is a shame.
The original editors, shown on my recently acquired copy as Wanda Schindley and Petar Makara, are much to be commended for their courage.
The euthanasia program that started in 1939, led to the Eisatzgruppen "mobile killing units" first dispatched in the summer of 1941, and later to a concentration camp in the abandoned exhibit grounds of Zemun, "in view of Belgrade," where from March to May 1942, Jewish women were murdered in "mobile gas vans." And in 1941, when this camp was established, secrecy was not even necessary--because the Nazis were presumed the would-be victors of World War II.
This is a critically important book, not only because it documents what happened to Serbs in Yugoslavia, but also because it has been, for all intents and purposes, denied a public audience by virtue of a court order.
Based on the book's content, it would not be difficult to believe that the plaintiffs in this copyright case are merely silencers and sympathizers of the genocide. Otherwise, they should immediately grant a license to the editors and publisher, for one U.S. dollar.
In this there is a lesson even today: in genocides (like that in Sudan) courts, governments, and international authorities, are often entirely complicit. It's a shame that any U.S. court would sanction the publication of this instructive volume, for any reason.
