Prompted by a discussion with my son about collective nouns, saw and purchased a copy for each of us. More than pleased with the service, and with the content of the book.In fact , there's more than either of us bargained for....its certainly comprehensive and really easy to browse for information.

Frankly, it's not a very readable book. But it's fascinating in that it does list so many group names of animals. It's quite humorous in part, too.

An embarrassment of riches ..

Every member of 'a browse of readers' should have access to this book.

This is considered by many to be the authoritative collection of collective nouns.

From an 'aarmory of aardvarks' to a 'consumption of yuppies', there is something for everyone.

A highly recommended addition to your library of books.

Well organized. Very useful for all types of inquiries about what vitamins to take.
My only issue is that it recommends aspartame at one point.

To put it bluntly, this book has EVERYTHING you could POSSIBLY need in it. It has combinations of vitamins and supplements for everything from how to get rid of jet lag, to what dieters should take, to the particular health needs of your pet dog or cat. If you read all the way through it, I'm relatively sure that you'll never come across a situation that you won't know what to take to help yourself out. And in my mind, that's what makes this book worth every single page it's printed on.

The author is both a pharmacist and nutritionist. The work
explains many aspects of vitamins including daily allowances,
benefits for the heart and lung, potency, precautions and a host
of relevant factors every consumer should know. He explains how
enzymes facilitate the digestion of food and how Lipase splits
fat. In addition, he demonstrates why older people might need
HCL supplements due to a paucity of digestive acids. The author
devotes a full chapter to explaining a glossary of complex
vitamin jargon. He breaks down vitamin-taking into various
constituent groups; such as, pregnant women, children, runners,
senior citizens, night workers and a host of relevant
constituencies. Did you know that plain ketchup has 8% more
sugar than ice cream? Lastly, he explains how to slow the aging
process via the use of nucleic acids.

The work is a good investment in developing a vitamin regimen
to complement key components of health maintenance.

I bought Easy Green Living for the recipes (like the air freshener containing vodka and essential oil - very nice) inside because I'd just read another book on being green, so I thought I had enough information. Then I started reading Loux's take on the environment, and I couldn't stop. She detailed reasons from personal health to protecting the earth's resources for becoming environmentally friendly. Loux writes well and breaks the topic down with ease without lecturing. She often injects personal stories as examples. And, she's budget conscious. She is quick to point out which options are budget friendly and which aren't necessarily. Easy Green Living is a valuable resource for anyone wishing to understand the current movement toward being environmentally friendly.

I have never been motivated enough by any book to spend time and thought writing a review but this book is the exception. The book is unusually thorough, covering its subject matter in depth and breadth. We should all read it cover to cover but its simple and compact organization invites us to browse and still get lots of ideas. Though I'm not into cosmetics, I found even that section interesting.

The book is well written and an easy read. Technical readers will find it a pleasant experience with good sentence structure and enjoyable phrasing.

Renee makes her ideas clear without preachiness or hysteria. She believes we can live the good life and do the right thing (read sustainable, healthy, thoughtful) at the same time. Life on this planet is short; we should make it as good as possible. This book helps define some ways to improve the experience. You might try one of Renee's receipies from her other books. She thinks and cooks -wow.

My favorite writer is Louise Erdrich and now in second place is Renee Loux. That's a strange pairing but I guess it's that they both talk about things important to the world.

The photographer has really captured the feel of Ellis Island. A visit to the island is a must for people visiting New York. Whether this was the first stop for your ancestors on their arrival to the new world, or they came through other ports of entry, I think the general experiences were the same. All the feelings of expectation, fear, joy or the disappointment of making such a long journey only to be detained or turned back while in sight of the "promised land" are tangible in Stephen Wilkes' images.

As an artist, I purchased this after my artist friend showed it to me, to use as a guide for selecting particular colors and/or color combinations in abstract paintings. It is amazing that the light in the photos has been captured as it truly was--not altered or enhanced with SW to convey a particular mood. Everyone I have showed this to has been propelled to stop and look through every image in the book--it draws you in as you flip through the pages. The colors portray emotion. Content is one of a kind. Highly recommended.

The pictures speak of the passing of time with such a quietness. One can only imagine the complete opposite when Ellis Island was a sea of humanity speaking and crying and hoping while glimpsing NY's famed skyline so nearby. So many hopes realized, so many unfulfilled.

I Love this book, the pictures are beautiful, the design and layout make the pictures and quotes very moving. As a photographer I admire the quality of the work, and the bright vivid prints. I love that most of the images are full pages, sometimes spread across two pages, with small text labeling the room, or part of the property. There are no frames, page designs, or paragraphs to take away from the imagery. For more information and details the photographer includes a section of thumbnails with descriptions, stories about the room, or the shooting conditions, or even bitd of history. The thumbnails and text are at the back of the book with an arial shot and map showing the layout of the buildings. It really helps to peice together the history of Ellis Island. The quotes including add to the emotion behind the images, and I like that they were on parchment paper, so that you can see the pictures behind it. The books are being enjoyed by me and my mother, who is very interested in the hostory of Ellis Island, while I enjoy it for the photography. Great book to own, everyone should have a copy.

I purchased this book as a gift for a friend who is a New Yorker and loves to know everything about the city he loves. He was thrilled with the book, as he'd been reading it already whenever he visited his brother, and said he can never put it down once he picks it up. Covers everything there is to know about NYC. Looking for very old maps of the Big City, the Mayoral and Presidential elections, Capsules of about every neighborhood in all 5 boroughs, histories of Broadway, Wall Street, MidTown, Columbia and NYU, the New School, and every other educational institution. Music from Classical to Jazz to Pop to Rock (but there is no listing for Sinatra! I think there should be.)How about the incredible skyscapers, docks, restaurants, clubs. And all this goes back to 1624, when the Dutch first settled. And sections on about every leading NYC personality ever. (though for some reason Mantle and Dimaggio are not listed separately, amoung many other famous NYC sports stars ). Even though the book is 10 years old, it is about as timeless as you can get, even with my very few small quibles mentioned!

Recieved the book promptly and in the condition promised. The book is an excellent source book. It does suffer from being without an index, for which the author apologizes. A source book without index is less than it should be. Still the images are excellent, and I assume the text is accurate. The author has spent a good portion of his working life in preparation: studying with Tibetan artists and craftspeople; and, becoming accomplished at rendering the brush drawings in an authentic manner. A good compaion book, especially as this does not have a index, is the "Handbook" by the same author

It's a more interesting and authoritative reference for this subject matter. This is due to Rinpoche being a qualified (I emphasise the word 'qualified') Lama and Tibetan scholar. Also at no point does Rinpoche compromise Tibetan Buddhism by giving away restricted information.

I love this book. Having found it a few years back at a tattoo shop in Santa Cruz, California, I was only able to look at it for a short time but I was able to gain so much knowledge as to the wealth of designs and deep meaning found in Tibetan art. This book stayed in my mind thereafter. Here it is a few years and a couple tattoos later and the book resurfaced on Amazon. Great price, great condition and prompt service. This book is great for one who has interest in Tibetan art and it's symbolic nature. The concepts are well articulated and with each 'type' placed into a different chapter it makes refrencing quite simple. If you are interested, get this book!

After a few months as a first year associate at my law firm, one of my former law school classmates told me that their firm had sent its new associates to an etiquette class. I decided that it might be a good idea for me to brush up on my etiquette skills as well, so I purchased this CD and also the Food Scholar Wine Basics CD. I recommend both for new professionals to prepare them for any "dining" situation they may encounter in their first jobs. These situations frequently fall into the "you don't know what you don't know" category of student knowledge.

I, for one, had very little experience in more formal dining situations upon graduating from school. This CD was just what I needed to get myself up-to-speed. It is well-organized and well-presented, covering a number of very specific situations that convey the elements of common sense and consideration that underlie all etiquette.

The author thankfully avoids spending time on how to arrange the seating at a state dinner. What he offers is practical, usable advice on the types of real social interactions that occur in all kinds of business. A very useful CD and well worth the price. Definitely five stars.

I will be graduating from college this year and have started to interview for jobs. I have a decent GPA, am in the career placement office every week for advice, and have spent hours polishing my resume. I thought that I had all my bases covered. Then I started actually interviewing for jobs. I have already had three interviews that included meals and two "mixers" with drinks and appetizers. It was a little overwhelming. I could tell there was an order to things I did not completely understand. A friend recommended this Dining Etiquette CD, so I ordered it. I had yet another meal during an interview after listening to it. It made a big difference. Knowing what to do at every turn during the meal was a confidence booster and I am sure it helped me appear more polished and professional. I HIGHLY recommend it, Two Thumbs Up.

A good etiquette book should sit on every professional's bookshelf alongside "how to win friends" and "7 habits." I purchased this book along with Essential Etiquette Fundamentals, Vol. 2: Wine Selection & Etiquette and The Etiquette Edge: The Unspoken Rules for Business Success to cover all the bases. These books do an excellent job covering the important etiquette skills often overlooked in today's environment. Although often underappreciated, exhibiting proper etiquette signals to others (especially your boss and clients) that you are well educated, care about detail, and have respect for others. I highly recommend these books for anyone new to the business world or for those of us who may need to brush up on the basics.

This is a very good detailed reference book for the use of therapeutic grade essential oils. It has information you won't get from the manufacturers of essential oils who are trying to steer clear of the FDA. However, there are some inconsistencies. There is a list of medical properties and then a list of what the oil is used for. The association between the medical properties and uses is rather vague at times. For instance, Cassia is listed as being anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-coagulant, but first on the list of uses is cataracts??? Also, wintergreen oil is recommended to not be used internally, but is in several products that are used internally. I have yet to find a safety warning about the overuse of methyl salicylate, so while this is a good reference it is incomplete.

This book is full of scientific information on the purity of essential oils and how to tell the difference between adulterated oils and pure therapeutic grade oils. It teaches the use of Young Living essential oils as following the French model of usage being that of ingestion, topical application and inhalation. Very safe guidelines for safe usage are well detailed so that anyone can teach themselves how to use them. This book covers subjects such as single oil data, oil blends, dietary supplements containing pure essential oils, the health benefits of Ningxia Red wolfberry juice, cleansing the body, hormonal balance, Raindrop massage technique, and there is a comprehensive section from A to Z on almost every health problem and how to use Young Living essential oils to help with these.

It is well written and claims are backed by research studies. I do not believe it would be wise to apply the information in this book to the use of oils other than Young Living's essential oils for reasons which will become obvious when studying the opening chapters about the importance of purity. This book should be used by all those who want nothing but the best information on how to use pure essential oils for complete health of mind and body.

I teach at a special education high school and in any one class my students' reading levels range from Kinder-12th grade, so it is extremely tough to find things that will encompass as many levels of learning at once. I am happy to say that this book does that, and the students really jumped right on to use it!

This book is right to the point, and is great for teaching students how to take notes. It has amazing spacing and large type that allows easier reading for students with reading disabilities. The fantastic use of color allows the reader to visualize a change in topic so that they may know that they are onto something new.

I would LOVE for this series to be modified into textbooks, with resources such as computer programs to enhance learning for visual and audio learners.

I DO NOT love the fact that it puts the grade level in BIG BOLD WORDS on the cover. That means that my 18 year old student is liable to tell me, "I'm not going to look at some middle school book. I'm in high school."
