It's been 15 years since I first encountered this book - part of a vocabulary challenge in the sixth grade. I still remember most of the stories, and I must have infuriated my parents using each word incessantly as I learned it. I can't recommend it highly enough.

This workbook is a unique tool in explaining anxiety to children and a means for coping with it. The book creatively teaches the process of externalizing worries so they are not all consuming. Although written for children, it is good in concept for adults as well.

This book literally changed my 10 year old daughter's life. She had a tendency to worry about things that "might" happen. This book is an interactive tool that allows your child (or even an adult!) to work through anxiety, stress and worry. She completed the book six months ago and has not needed again - but I will keep it just in case! A wonderful book and useful tool to help your little one rationalize, prioritize and categorize real worries from irrational fears.

Exactly What I Was Looking For

My five year old son has been very anxious since starting Kindergarten last month. He had separation anxiety and would cry several times a day at school. I knew he was adjusting to his new routine, but then he started getting anxious about going to school and would ask, "Mommy, what if I cry? I don't want to cry at school." So I found this book on Amazon and was 'sold' when I saw all of the wonderful reviews. I started reading it to my son the day I received it. My son couldn't believe that this book was describing exactly how he'd been feeling. As I read it, I noticed he was hanging on my every word. There are wonderful ideas and he's so excited to start using them. This morning before school he even said, "Mommy, I don't think I'm going to cry today." So, I highly recommend this book. I know how heart-wrenching it is to watch your little one suffer with anxiety. Best of luck!

This book has helped us discuss worrying too much with our ten year old son. I think it has really helped him to understand how worrying too much hurts him and it gives him tools to worry less.

I sat down on my porch and read this through yesterday upon receiving it. It is a wonderful, LARGE book (8.5 X 11) with large type, easy to read and easy on the eyes. Our son who just turned 7 has had struggles with anxiety off and on for years. This book is 'right up his alley'! He is an imaginative boy, and draws to express what is in his mind. This book is full of pages where the anxious child can draw the topic or idea discussed. One idea I had (don't think it's a copyright issue if I own the book) is to xerox the drawing pages and let my son use the copies. So when he gets in an anxious period again, and we redo this process with another worry, he'll have fresh pages to use.

The explanations and reading level seem just perfect for any 6 to 10 year old, maybe even some five year olds. If your child is in elementary school, this book is for them.

I agree with the other reviewer that did not appreciate labeling sufferers as "weak people". It was in reference to a 'worry bully' picking on the child. A couple other places the text refers to the worry bully SEEING the child as weak, but this one place where the child is LABELED a "weak person" did concern me. I just took out my Sharpie, marked over the word 'weak' and left it that bullies like to pick on people, period. This one tiny sentence did not ruin an otherwise terrific book, for me!!

Overall a wonderful resource for a school age child. The illustrations are terrific, also!

This book clearly demonstrates that Christ not only provided for salvation but also for healing through His completed work while here on earth. It shows that healing and salvation are closely linked together in many ways, though often we seperate the two in modern thinking.

Like so many others here, I find this an essential book for Christians. I've given it to friends for years, and many of us have received healings more than once, relying on the book for encouragement. This black-covered edition is the one I like best, as others have said. It is Bro. Bosworth's own writing, or not so edited as some other editions, and the addition by his son of details of Bosworth's death is very inspiring. Bro. Bosworth, apparently, learned from the Lord that his time on earth was over, went home and had family and friends meet with him, and 2-3 weeks later he died, not having become sick. I love knowing that he lived and died by what he preached to others and it worked well for him.

I bought this cookbook > 20 year ago based on a recommendation from a college friend from Philly. Alas - I have loved my copy to death. While I have > 100 cookbooks, this is the only one that has literally fallen apart from too much use. My favorites incled the cheesecake recipe, Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Walnut cookies, and the Chicken Breasts with Apples and Cider Cream Sauce. I am thrilled to be able to get a new copy to love to pieces!!

I accept that the 80s will not die. And, they are delicious.

This afternoon I told my daughter we'd make oatmeal chocolate-chip cookies for her lunchbox ("No oatmeal!" "Yes oatmeal,") and went looking for a recipe online. As soon as I saw the words "Frog Commissary" come up on Google, I was happy. Why? I don't know -- maybe it was all that eastern-PA late-80s/early-90s bookselling, maybe I'd shelved the cookbook before, or maybe it was ESP cookie vibes reaching out to me from 1985. Because hot damn, these are wonderful cookies.

I must admit that reading the reviews makes me wince just that tiny bit -- all those terribly fashionable foods of the time. Reminds me of the year my dad added Belgian endive to my mom's shopping list every week just to annoy. You know, I could live without the raspberry puree brulee spinach asparagus crepe hazelnut big-puffy-sleeve dance again. But so what? I'm looking forward to cooking from this book, and I bet I'll wake up some pleasant memories in doing it.

This will make your reputation as a cook!

This is the ideal dinner-party cookbook, and your guests will think you're a genius cook. I've been using it since the mid 1980's, and have made my reputation on dishes like Siamese Chicken Curry, Chicken Liver Paté with Brandy, Bacon, and Herbs, Vanilla Walnuts, and more. The flavorful dishes are sometimes high in fat, but who cares? This is food for special occasions, and it will be your "go-to" cookbook again and again.

Volume 3 - Children love it!

Review Date: 2008-11-21
After years of reading "Read Aloud Bible Stories: Vol. 3" to my girls, I finally had to look up the others. Volume 3 has such fundamental stories (the Creation, the Flood, Daniel & the Lions, the birth of Jesus) that I wondered what could possibly be in Volumes 1 and 2! I just may have to get them and find out.

Originally I picked up this book for basic Bible stories I could read quickly before bed because there are not many words on each page (parents who read the same book night after night after night know exactly what I'm talking about!), but I thought the illustrations were kind of sloppy. Over time I came to appreciate the simple paintings for how they capture the essence of each scene with such casual ease. Children love them, so what do I know? Interestingly, a story in this volume about manna, "God Gives His People Bread to Eat," has been the perennial favorite.

I purchased one book and my boys (three at the time) loved it. I purchased another in the series and then finally the last two. We've got a lot of bible story books my kids had no or little interest in. These are so engaging--the writing, the pictures, the selection of stories. These stories inspire them to pretend and re-tell the stories themselves. They are also easy to use as a lesson--the story, acting it out, doing a craft. I only wish there were more in the series!

I bought the first two books of the series over a dozen years ago when my youngest son was little. I was a preschool teacher of four year olds for many years and used these stories. I have also have used them with two-year-olds in Sunday School and the children like them. They get to the essence of the story with simple words and explanations. I love the simple and clear artwork with watercolor drawings. I think the simple story and artwork allows the feeling of the story to come through. I had looked for these books in stores over the years with no luck. Now with a grandson, I was delighted to find them to complete my collection. I can't wait to read the stories to him.

After reading the first book in this series, I couldnt wait to read about Ambers story. I felt a lot like Amber, she doesnt know what she wants to do with her life after high school. I enjoyed the way that she grew throughout the story and know that her future held something bigger then she thought possable. This is a series that all Lurlene fans will want to read. Not only does this book talk about a world that most people never hear about, but it shows young woman that its ok to learn to spread your wings and fly. I truly enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to reading more book by this author.

Angel of Hope, talks about Heather dying. Her sister, Amber has decided to go on her journey and follow her sister`s shadow on her way to Uganda. She meets the most wonderful thing in her life, courage and love. Its an amazing book! Now, it`s been three weeks since I`ve read it, and yet I think about it everyday and keep on thinking about the special quotes Lurlene had put in this dramatic and romantic book. I`m currently reading "How I love thee" and the three stories stored inside, are the ones that you will never forget in your life. :) Lurlene McDaniel is the best author ever!

Angel of Hope by Lurlene McDaniel is a great book if you like a romantic adventure. Lurlene McDaniel has written many books but I personally think this is one of her best. This is a wonderful book. I didn't want to put it down until I was finished reading it. It is a spectacular book about a young girl, Amber, who goes to Africa because her sister Heather became very ill and couldn't go back. She meets the people that Heather talked so greatly about from her trip on the Mercy Ship. Africa isn't at all what amber thought it out to be. She stayed with Paul and Jodene as Heather did on her trip. Amber soon met Boyce Callahan he was there working on a project. They quickly became friends. But is Amber ready for what Africa has in store for her next?

Heather Barlow, the main character in Angel of Mercy, was back from Africa as a missoionary, and was trying to readjust to the big Miami lifestyle she used to be acustomed to. Although she was happy to return home to her family, she could not forget about losing her beloved Ian, or about little baby Alice, the child that she rescued that needed surgery. Heather was so sad to leave, nothing could detour her mind from returning, so she talks her mkom into returning with her, this would help because her mom is a surgeon. Her mother decides to go. A week before they leave Heather becomes ill, Amber her sister found her lying in a pool of blood on their bathroom floor. Heather's plans are then shattered because the doctor orders to stay in bed for at least two weeks. Seeing how upset her siter is about being away from Africa, Amber decides to take her place. When Amber arrives in Africa, she has no clue what to expect or what fate has in store for her.........
I loved this book, I loved the fact that it touched me so much. I cried reading the very end of it. I never expected what happened to happen because until the end it had you guessing. On a scale of 1-5 stars i would give it a 10, it was absoluetly beautiful!

Too bad, because it was good. However, if you want similar information, check out Harmonious Environment: Beautify, Detoxify and Energize Your Life, Your Home and Your PlanetBoth of these books deal with the next steps to take once your home is non-toxic, including ways to make your home your sanctuary.

An overview of the places, people and technology in the Dune universe. This explains a lot of the detail of things that Herbert just mentions in passing, such as the scientists that invented shields, or space travel, or things like that.

It is very useful to gain a better understanding of all those finer points.

My copy of the Dune Encyclopedia is from 1985 and I remember seeing it on the shelf at the bookstore and purchasing it without even looking at it first!

It gives excellent detail about the technology written about in the series and insight that really adds to the Dune experience.

If you can find a copy of this book it is well worth the read. I am just amazed it is selling for $50.00+ (I paid $10 for mine in 1985) It would be nice to see this come back into print so more people can enjoy an in depth exploration into this wonderful series.

The first time I ran into the Dune Encyclopedia was purely by accident. I was on Morpheus (a P2P downloading site) and I typed down "DUNE" on the search bar, on the generated list was "The Dune Encyclopedia".

It took days for it to download because only one person was sharing it... meaning that not many people knew it existed and not many people have a digital ebook copy of this book.

Once it was finally on my computer I read as much as I could -- sadly my computer was experiencing many problems and crashed.

Sinse then, I've never been able to find another digital copy. I've resorted to purchasing a $30 one here on good ol' Amazon, however, sinse it's out of print and no publishing house is making any money off of it anymore, I say we as fans should force it back into print as an ebook.

Just recently I found a good condition copy of The Dune Encyclopedia at a local used book dealer. I was completely shocked to have found it on the "recent arrivals" shelf in the Sci-Fi section. I grabbed it up and leafed through it to verify its existence. It was real alright. The fact that I bought it for only $4.50 is more extraordinary. Yes, $4.50 !!! They must not have realized what a treasure they had.
So keep looking everyone, there are still hidden treasures out there to be found.

The book God's Smuggler is, (and I hate to use this word loosely as it is overused) awesome in the respect that God answered him so many times directly. His answers were direct miracles from God. It is also amazing to read how he managed to get in and out of Russia so many times unscathed. Great reading.

However, I found it hard to make a start reading the bible when I really know nothing about it. I found this book invaluable in helping me get the most out of my bible reading. It taught me lessons that I can use not only with my study of the bible but with study of other literature as well.
My only problem with the book is that the authors sometimes fail to distinguish thier dogmatic beliefs from what the bible really teaches but, thankfully, the indepth lessons they include in the book will help anyone to see these errors for themselves.
I also didn't like the "one interpretation, many applications" rule. Some of the scriptures quoted in the book and then interpreted by Hendricks ended in conclusions I just could not comprehend. I think the bible can be interpreted many different ways and it's up to us to be able to discern the true message of what we're reading. With the interpretations I didn't agree with I just completed my own study following the rules set out by Hendricks and it gave me a whole new light on what can be found in one simple verse - and what can be lost if even one word is misinterpreted.
I can honestly say that this book is essential to anyone wanting to learn more about what is really in the bible. And it would also make a valuable contribution to any student wanting to get more from their everyday reading.

Living By the Book: The Art and Science of Reading the Bible -- At Last! Someone who knows how to read the bible and is willing to reveal his secrets to us. Why don't church bible studies start with this book? This book should be the first book of the bible study curriculum. I praise God for finally leading me to Howard Hendricks book.

Howard Hendricks is outstanding at revealing how exciting reading the Bible can be, but even more important was how he explains how to accurately determine what the writers were saying to the original hears, but also to us now. His directions reveal tried and true methods to "rightly divide the Word of God" that many other books on how to read the Bible just never see. I have been reading the Bible for more than 30 years and have seen truths that I missed over and over, just like when Sherlock Holmes looks a crime scene and understands all kinds of details that the untrained just can't see.
Reading this will open up the Bible and God's revelation like never before.

The many reviews on this book are already excellent, but I would like to add my own experience both with the book and with Prof Hendricks. I remember reading this book a few years back then had the privilege of having Prof in class last Fall in 2007. He teaches just like the book he wrote with his son, Bill. In a time when the majority of books simply tend to give you content or fluff, this book not only gives you foundational methods, but gives you priceless examples of how to put these methods into a consistent practice. Prof supplies us with biblical passages to test out these methods for doing personal bible study, which is three-fold: observation, interpretation, and application.

I cannot fully explain what it is like to learn from a man of the Word who has taught bible method and exposition for more than 50 years. The command he has over the subject, the illustrations and examples he conjures up, the accessibility he gives the listener/reader to the scripture is priceless over and over again. In a school like DTS, where it is easy to get caught up with everything BUT theological method and life applications, Dr. Hendricks shows how invaluable bible study method is for every Christian, whether a professional minister/pastor, a layman, a scholar, etc. This is something we were all meant to do and to be engaged in. Growth is accomplished by learning how, through the power and filling of the Holy Spirit, to engage in the foundational bible study methods of observation and interpretation, which are then to be lived out through daily application. This is a must-read for every Christian to grow and mature in their faith.
