Quick Start Guide to Vista 2nd edition

Couldn't live without it. Know XP like the back of my hand, but Vista is so obtuse. Probably meant to be easy for first time users. However, this book eliminates having to jump through so many hoops to get things to work. Didn't want Vista on my new computer, but took it because I teach computers, and thought I should keep up with technology. Still haven't found any advantage of Vista over XP, I also have the Visual Quick Start Guide to MAC OS Tiger and found it very useful. "The Missing Manual - Switching to the MAC" has also been extremely helpful to one who thinks XP and needs to translate to "MAC Speak" .

covers every question on vista I had

I bought another book earlier from local bookstore I thought would answer my questions but it was pretty and was easy to understand but partly cause it was so shallow. Was good for someone that was new to all operating systems and not just xp.

Calling this a quick start guide is misleading but might be a good selling point. I was looking for something that could guide me thru the differences of vista and xp and this is it.

I am so used to vista now I hardly remember xp even tho it is only been around a month. If something didn't work intuitively I could just open this book. What really sold me on this book was the look inside option, I could look at the table of contents and see that it was just what I was looking for.

Great reference, so far it has answered everything I needed to know.

In fact, I thoroughly enjoyed the entire Step-By-Step series covering MS Office. I strongly suggest any student, curious George or researcher to pick up a copy and read it. I recently purchased MS 2007 Access, Excel, Power Point and Word set in the Step-By-Step series. The authors are concise in their descriptions without being boring and the information is invaluable.

Network+ in plain english from your friend

I've had to take two networking fundamentals courses because I switched colleges, and the second one required that the networking class be taken from their college. The two classes used different books. While there wasn't anything terribly wrong with the first book, "Mike Meyers' Network+ Guide To Managing and Troubleshooting Networks" is far better. Meyers is an extremely talented technical writer. Difficult subjects were easy to understand. His writing style is straightforward and friendly. It is as if a good friend sat down with you and taught you networking. Meyers explains the background of and the whys of networking so you're not stuck memorizing a bunch of dry facts. While other books may teach you what's theoretically supposed to happen, Meyers tells you both what supposed to happen and what actually happens in the field. He lets you in on jargon and what techs actually do so you won't be left looking like a dork. I'm amazed at how much better I understand networking now.

Book also includes chapter summaries, key words, chapter quizzes, and exercises. Throughout the book there are sidebars which bring up different topics you have studied, how they relate to the current topic, and suggestions for exercises which will reinforce what you have learned.

This was the texbook we used in our Net+ class in Spring '05, and it will be used again in Spring '06. I still refer to it on occasion. It covers everything essential, and explains the topics deeply but in plain terms. The chapters are distinct, with appropriate diagrams and tables, and the index is elaborate, which make it a good reference resource. This book is expensive, but it's been worth it to me.

Jan Ozer has done it again. A well written, easy to understand book is a "must have" for anyone using MyDVD. Book has lots of visuals and is written in such a way that even the average user will be able to use MyDVD to the fullest in no time at all. Very reasonably priced also. Two thumbs up!

An absolute must for MyDVD users. Where Sonic has done a great job in software design, it has failed terribly in documentation. Ozer has filled that gap with a book that takes you from A to Z with easy flow and great use of screen captures. Highly recommended. It is the documentation Sonic should have included with its product.

Microsoft's Internet Toolkit Put Simply

Review Date: 2002-10-23
This book is a fantastic resource for those who are just entering into Wireless Application Protocol. It contains advice for users on how to get an IP address for their mobile phone through to developing complex algorithms for use on such devices. The terminology is clear and an example of this is the description of Blue Tooth Technology in Figure 3.7.

It is a dynamic book and has been created so that the reader can gain comprehension through the passages and the graphic screen shots.

Overall it is a very important tool book for those interested in the developing trends occuring in IT and the associated products.

This book has so many easy to follow and very creative ideas in it that even the beginning computer user will be an expert after reading this well-written book! Whether you want to create printing and craft projects using your computer, make your own DVDs and CDs, or just become more familiar with XP, this book has it all. It is written in a fun, easy to understand way, but non-offensive if you are a computer expert already. It's the perfect reference book that all homes should have on their bookshelves. You won't be sorry!

Wow! Another great addition to all the wonderful things that you can do with your computer. We especially enjoyed the section written by Jan S. Smith - Printing Projects Made Fun and Easy! Her attention to detail, and instructions for completing the cool projects were extremely creative, cratsy, and helpful. It really was fun and easy! We were able to create any project, and learned that our computer is able to do many things that we used to have printed by professionals. It is fun family time to complete these projects as well as exploring the book for next week's endeavor. Thanks Ms. Smith . . . . your'e both intelligent and glamorous. We loved the cute little kitty cat animation best of all because it reminded us of our aunt that we don't often see!

'Palm @ Work & Play' is a practical, concise guide on how to apply your Palm to everyday life and save it from hanging out with the dust bunnies. This book is unique in that it is not a rehash of Palm's manual and it is not a bunch of programs and demos thrown together. The great part was that no other software was needed than the core ones that come standard with my Palm. I really enjoyed chapter 4 on how to use my Date Book function for tracking my job hunting efforts and keep a fitness schedule. Standing in a checkout line, or waiting for a bus has gone from wasted time to production, fun or relax time; author Courtney Thompson shows over 40 ways to do it. His love of education shows; he suggests how both teachers and students can Palm handhelds for scheduling, course outlines, and course content. Chapter 9 entitled 'Forward Thinking', has suggestions on possible future uses for Palm technology and asks the question: "Palm engineers, are you listening?". This book is a must read for every Palm user who really wants to get the most from their Palm handheld and get some great suggestions of how to do more with their Palm device.
