Wonderful recipes from the now long-closed take-out, THE STORE in Amagansett, owned by famous cookery writer Bert Greene before
he became well known as a writer. Lots of delicious food and wit, served up with Bert Greenes' typical joie de vivre and
including tibits of info about famous and not so famous customers such as Lee Radziwill, Leonard Bernstein and Barbara Streisand.

Robert "Bob" Mitchell is a true product of the coal fields of southern West Virginia. From humble beginnings he was born in a rented cabin on a dairy farm just outside of Bluefield, West Virginia. As one of four children he learned early the value of hard work and the importance of educating oneself.
Rising early before dawn he would set out to deliver milk and newspapers before having breakfast and going off to school. He was driven by a desire to become more than what he saw about him daily.
He married his high school sweetheart and entered the Air Force. The military was the only option for a poor lad from the coal fields to get a college education in those days. The GI bill served him well as he attended night school while also learning the retail trade as a manager trainee with the WT Grant company in Jacksonville, Florida.
Bob always worked hard and learned very quickly but as thorough as the rigorous Grant training program was he was still finding it difficult to accomplish everything he needed to get done. He began to educate himself as to effective management principles and to try them out within the stores he managed.
Each time a principle worked he incorporated it into his method. Every time he found a peer excelling at a task he would inquire as to how they achieved outstanding results and modifying those methods into his system. Each time becoming a more and more successful manager.
His assignments usually placed him in difficult stores and locations where he invariably turned the store around and into a profit center. After the decline of WT Grants Bob used his knowledge and system to lead him eventually into a Vice Presidents position in what was to become the largest Catalog showroom company in the world, Service Merchandise. It's success was in no small part a direct result of his management system that the company reached such heights during his tenure.
Bob took his talents to the burgeoning parking giant, Central Parking Systems. He designed their entire training and management system and while he was there they rose to international prominence to become the largest parking system company in the world. Currently he is with another up and coming parking company, Republic Parking Systems. They are currently one of the largest airport parking management companies in the nation if not the world.
Bob's book "The Store Manager" is a concise system designed to train an individual not only how to manage their own time but also how to manage others. It is written in a short narrative style that is interesting to read and teaches by actual examples he encountered during the course of his career. Many of the examples the reader will be immediately able to recognize as situations they have encountered.
"The Store Manager" should be in every mid level to upper management persons top desk drawer. There simply isn't anything currently written that does as thorough a job in as precise a manner as does this book. Doing the best you can as quickly as you can is the task given to all managers and quite simply, this book teaches you how to do just that.

This book has great recipes, and a lot of variety. My favorite part is that the complete meals are already planned, so I
don't have to figure out a side dish, dessert, etc. The shopping list feature is also very helpful.

Store windows no.10 is like the bag of Marry Popins: every time I thumbed the pages, looking for new, non-conventional ideas
to a new store window I need to do - I found few of them. No need to be an excellent English reader, the pictures speak
for themselfs.

This book describes a typical day in the life of the keeper of a general store. The storekeeper rises early to welcome the
donut man. She serves the road crew and the schoolchildren. She works very hard to choose products her customers will like,
and she works especially hard at keeping the store clean and organized. She doesn't get to go to bed until late at night,
after the last customer has left. There is nothing scary in the book, and the description is quite accurate while the pictures
are detailed and amusing. The book has about 150 words.
